There are roles for us. All of the characters are fictional. We can do these roles. My daughter is the only Black girl in her pre-professional company. It takes grit and a supportive parent. She has to fight for her place. The gentleman is right, we have to be the best. It is like that in all sectors. We all have to be the best.

Confidence (not arrogance) & poise makes a person of color really stand out when they're the only fly in the buttermilk.

It's not just about racism but it also the question of how many black parents encouraged this

ive always wanted to take ballet since i was little, i grew up watching angelina ballerina and barbies swan lake and i desperately wanted to take it. but i asked my mom and she said that i was too fat and that i would never be accepted because im not as small as the white girls that took ballet, and i felt so ashamed that i never asked her again (i wasnt fat at all. i was only 7 when i asked her) im 16 now and im scared now that i might be too old to take ballet all the way from the beginning, and i feel upset because deep down ive always loved ballet and ive supressed it because my mom wants me to become a doctor :(

You can do it! Prove to your mom that you can do it. Your 16 almost 18. Look for some ballet classes or watch tutorials on UA-cam and exercise! Its never too late.

It's never too late to take ballet! I feel similar because I also started ballet late, but watching adults on youtube who started as adults or late teens has been very motivating :)

I started at 47 (almost 5 years ago now) and fat. No, I'm never going to be professional. . . .but most people who start at 5, 6 or 7 won't be either. I'm in the studio 6 days a week and I love it more every day. It's really never too late to start. Really.

Look for online ballet classes for beginners, UA-cam, instagram and Facebook. There are fees for some.

As a black ballet dancer myself I constantly have to push myself to be taken seriously because not only am I a black dancer I'm also the biggest one at my studio so I work harder to prove that I can do just the same as the fair skinned tiny dancers. I'm not gonna lie, it does take a toll on me knowing I have to constantly push myself just to prove that I'm just as good.

Unfortunately its extremely hard for colored women to break into especially darker skin women. Ballet can be physically and emotional demanding on dancers most ballet dancers are perfectionist
