    On this episode of You Need This Tool I feature some bolt /parts bins by Durham MFG. These things are awesome. My plans are to have the entire shop outfitted with these things.
    Welcome to The Fab Forums. My name is Kyle Voss and I am a automotive fabricator that produces Custom Automotive Fabrication content of all kinds. Including Carbon Fiber, TIG Welding, Metal Shaping, Hot Rods, Muscle Cars, Custom Choppers, and everything in between. I work hard to bring you new content on a weekly basis.
    Here are some of the builds you can find on this channel.
    I have built several Chevy trucks. The first was my 1964 C10 named Crown Spoyal and the most recent C10 truck project was the 1969 I recently sold to a friend named the Black Pearl.
    I am also finishing up a custom twin turbo Ford Mustang build I call the Gray Goose. It’s a 400 cubic inch Windsor style engine with twin 70mm turbos. I am hoping to make around the 1000 horsepower mark to the tires on this particular build.
    Last but not least is the one off custom hot rod build called the Bibbster. This is what I call a modern day hot rod. It’s made from an old Ford Mustang foxbody, but made to look like an old school open wheeled hot rod.
    I also feature other fabricators and shops like Cutworm Specialties hand formed aluminum wide body kit for a BMW e46. Jeb Greenstone has also built a twin turbo, coyote powered model A style hot rod from scratch, and is currently building a Toyota TE72 wagon drift car powered by a 1UZ Lexus v8. Jeb’s custom fabrication skills are fun to watch and always make for good videos.
    Check out my playlist to see some or all of these builds.

    People sell old Dorman hardware / parts bins on eBay, but watch out for gougers. Sometimes new ones are cheaper thru Amazon with free shipping. Vidmar or Stanley Industrial cabinets are awesome, and can be bought cheap from industrial salvage / surplus stores or DRMO on military bases. I got two for the cost of hauling them away, which is the first and only time I ever got anything that cool and useful for cheap.

    The biggest thing about these boxes is that the bottoms of each little cubby is rounded so that you can "scoop" the part your grabbing with your finger. It makes all the difference compared to trying to grab it against a hard 90deg edge in the bottom of the bin.

    I have a few file cabinets in my home shop but really like how I turned a old small tool cabinet in to small storage like them boxes. HF 26”x22” with some office desk and kitchen draw organization really works great. Mine is a 36” dewalt. I even used a bottom box for a baby changing station that I took 3/4” plywood making it legitimate. The draws are awesome for diapers, wipes, gloves for the really bad ones lol, socks, and so on baby stuff. Did take the wheels off put a 2x4 in place so it was lower and doesn’t move.

    I bought a couple of them used off Ebay. One was full of stainless metric nuts and bolts. The other one had useful small hardware. They were both under $50 shipped.

    Those are really nice storage boxes. I use the Milwaukee storage boxes and built a cabinet with roller slides to put them in. Organization is awesome.

    A couple of differences between the two drowar sets - the first had a latch so you wouldn't need to worry about the lid opening and spilling the **** everywhere, and the second had the little card-holders for holding cards with their contents listed.
    When shopping for them, it would be worth checking over all the little details the various brands - these are just a small selection - offer as some may be very useful, others less so.

    Those bins are great. I use those for smaller tools and parts along with some filing cabinets for larger tools I don’t use that often.

    That is pricey way to store bit and bobs, honestly I would use them for other things. Well built and handy but not the most economical way to store O-rings. Lol thanks for the great review!

    Finally a new episode of you need this tool, need to do more of these regularly please if you can, it's absolutely one of the most interesting beside the fabrication itself of course.
    Keep up the good work and do work son 👍👍

    I searched those Durham manufacturing drawers because I want to buy some and came across your channel. You have a very nice garage with lots of cool tools!! I hope one day I can afford a nice garage with lots of tools. Right now building my tiny metal shed man cave I’m out of room though but unfortunately my bank account won’t allow me for my dream garage….hopefully one day. Also I like that table you built what’s the work surface made of? Is it mdf or something like that?

    Thanks for posting. Those plastic compartment inserts... are they sturdy on their own? I saw a cracked corner at 2:18. Are they pretty brittle?
    Odd question I know, but I have limited width in my mobile setup and I'm thinking of building a custom drawer bank using these long-ways front/back.
    Btw - Looking at these inserts at Grainger for about $11 - 13.00

    $225 USD, that's like $10,000 Aussie... I just bought some plastic ones from Bunnings. If you don't need them to be super sturdy for things like electronics, plastic is fine, but I wouldn't want to store heavier stuff in them.

      @fowletm1992 4 роки тому

      Iv got a few for everything from sprinkler parts to bolts

    • @DodgyBrothersEngineering
      @DodgyBrothersEngineering 4 роки тому

      @@fowletm1992 that's not bad, but I still think I would stick with the cheap plastic ones unless I was constantly in and out of the draws. The ones I bought for all my electronic bits and pieces will probably never get opened.
