Ideally yes. The Amber Mines expansion adds a lot of nice modules to the game, on top of the Red King track which forces a time limit. You could just as easily give yourself 30 turns to get all 14 camps out and have a score greater than 74 to consider your game a success. The Foreteller app is a nice addition to the game for thematic immersion and also makes it easy to keep the choices spoiler free, but it is possible to simply cover up the benefits before making your decision. I did it that way for years. At the end of the day, I’m just suggesting you purchase Near and Far for a great narrative driven experience.
