I’ve been watching your videos for a few years now and I have made purchases based on the how to play’s but tonight was the first time I pulled a game out and used only your video to start playing and me and my wife jumped right in without looking at the rules. We had to consult them a few times for references but other than that we were golden. I don’t know how you can reduce a 40 (!) page rule book into a clear, concise manner but you have. Thank you sir and keep up the great work!
This is the first time I've completely learned a game just by watching your video. For some reason, my brain was just tuning out reading the rules this time, so I flicked on your video and it just clicked. Played with my game group tonight and only had to check the rulebook a couple of times (and check the BGG forums once, since the rules actually don't state what happens if you don't defeat a threat). The game is amazing and your video explained it perfectly. Thanks!
Hey Nicholas - so nice to hear that the video was a help! Now you've got my curiosity about the rule you went to BGG about. If you don't defeat a threat, the rule book states that you go back to the spot you were on before encountering it, and your turn ends immediately. Was there another case it didn't address? Curious as I wanted to know if I also missed something in my video. Was the question something more than what I mentioned here: ua-cam.com/video/nFiNJ07cgnA/v-deo.html&t=25m44s
Weird. Somehow I missed that line over and over when I was reading it last night trying to find the answer. Guess that is what I get for playing a game at 1am.
We are really enjoying this sequel to Above & Below. Your videos not only introduced us to our favorite game designer, but also have taught us to play many of his wonderful games. Thank you, Rodney! :)
An adventure game where I can be a lizard guy, have a dog in my party, and instead of pack mule use a pack kiwi bird, all with ryans art. If that's not the best sales pitch for a game, I don't know what is.
Wow, this looks even better than I thought it would! What a beautiful game, bonus that the character can 'visit' A&B as well. So excited for this to arrive. Thx for such a well thought out HtP, helps a lot with setup and sussing out the rules!
I kickstarted this game after falling in love with the art in Above and Below. A&B isn't a half bad storytelling/worker placement game either luckily. Cool that the N&F kickstarter included bonuses for A&B. Thanks for the video Rodney it looks like a doozy to watch!
I love the way you explain stuff. You are so clear and thorough, and you never leave me confused! I thought I had concreted my list of what games I want to get for Christmas, but seeing more videos like this one, I'm wanting to add more games to my list! If it was up to me I'd buy them all, but my wife is frugal and insists I only get to spend a certain amount on board games each year haha. Probably a good thing. Anyway, this game looks really cool! I wasn't really sure about the artwork, but as I watched this video I fell in love with it! Now I need to re-work my Christmas list ;) Thanks for yet another awesome video!
Rodney You always to a great job. My wife and I have learned many of the 200+ board games I have now collected from you. I think you do a wonderful job - and it is always a pleasure to see you playing with your son. I also enjoy playing my my son (who is now 30). Keep up the great work!!!
A true adventure game indeed, just a bit long to explain things in detail, but simple enough for anyone to play it. I added this to my to-buy list a while ago. Nice to see it here. Thanks Rodney!
Yes, when explaining in person to others, the extra details aren't necessary up front, but we like to cover it all for our fellow rules teachers, and those who want all the info! :)
I mentioned this before, but it would be nice to see you in Montreal. We have lots of places to play tabletop games and a few conventions here and there. While you're in town you can try the most famous smoked meat deli in the world, Schwartz's ;)
I finally received my copy of Near and Far and I'm stoked that there is a character named "Vera!" Plus, I have watched your videos at Ryan's recommendation and I am grateful for you taking the time to show us how to play.
As usual, Rodney, a gold-standard rules video! There's a lot going on here, but it un-complicates itself quickly with your explanation. Thank you! This makes me so excited for our copy to come in the mail in a week or so. -Rich
Hi Rodney! I just bought Now or Never and was hoping you also covered that one but I fortunately I can’t find it. Hoping you will cover that one too some day since your always video’s help me so much 🙌🏼
Hey Rodney am liking the new intro music am getting used to it now, is very cheery like yourself :-) Thanks for doing this run through, am eagerly awaiting my KS copy.
Rodney, you might get tired of us saying it but-awesome video as always! Always amazed by how you are able to explain everything so well. Not just by talking, but also hand movements and how the video is edited. Really good. Got a question though; when you purchase an artefact which has a faction symbol as a cost, do you also expend the token? Or is it enough to just have it in your possession (I think you spend it because you can have multiple tokens)?
Rodney! Very concise and clear video, as always! Great image quality as well. I was wondering: How do you get your info across so fluently? Do you learn your texts by heart or do you use an autocue? Or just gifted with extreme narration skills :)
Hey Rodney, another great video!! As you know I am a HUGE Ryan Laukat fan, so big thanks for the video and getting me ready for when my KS arrives. Just wondering if you and Pep have checked out Anachrony yet. One of my favorite games of 2017 so far....although I am sure Near and Far will also be added to that list.
+J Dubb Glad you like the video, and hope you enjoy playing your KS copy when it lands! We have not played Anachrony, but I have heard good things to be sure.
I'm in the process of combining this game and Above and Below into one enormous game. You may say it's impossible, but this is my personal design project for 2019.
So awesome to watch this and then started playing. Only needed to have the manual for checkups, and that's is a big time saver. Also some roles ain't that clear and good to hear someone else opinion on them :D Will defiantly watch more videos before playing new games! Thank you!
Hey Rodney, loving the how to play guides, I have a request. Could you please do a how to play guide for Dark Souls the board game. Its only arriving from kick starter in 1-3 weeks. But I would love to reduce my Instruction reading time!!!
Hello, If got a question. If you move past a camp space that isn't your color, but the color of your opponent.. Will this cost you hearts because it isn't yours?
Hey there, I'm always happy to try to help with rules questions, but if the answer is provided in the video, than I have to direct you there. You'll find an index in the description to help you find the section you might be looking for.
I'm 90% sure i know the answer, but i'll ask anyways. let's say i purchased the lockpick, which requires a -1 rep and then gained a rep, do i keep the lock pick?
Yes, the costs and reputation requirements were previously paid, and so being bad and then changing for the good is a perfectly acceptable option for your character's arc!
Hey Rodney, it took us about 2 hours to go through the rules and your video will significantly reduce the time for new players to get up to speed. Two questions that weren't clear for us 1) While it is intuative that you replace an adventurer at the Saloon after a purchase - we can't find anywhere in the rules where it says to do that. Under the Saloon, it looked like the only way to replenish after purchased adventurers was to pay one food and replace them all. Where does it outline to replace after a purchase? 2) While a faction banner can reduce the cost per banner by 1 coin - can it be reduced to 0 cost if you have enough banners OR is 1 the minimum cost? Thanks for another Great video - and if you come up to Bellevue again - I have a free dinner waiting for you.
Glad you liked the video Tom! 1) It doesn't say this in the rules, but this is something I asked the designer, and he confirmed we have it correct. 2) It can be reduced to 0.
I'm sure you're not alone :) But then again, there are games with even more rules - so it's more a matter of ones particular tastes. Thanks for checking out the video!
At around 11:07 it is explained that cost of recruiting is minus 1 for every banner of that faction you own. In the video, the faction banner token is on the left side of the player board. How did it get there? Was it simply to show that this type of token counts as one? Or is there an action where it ends up on the left? Because otherwise these banner tokens would be on my player board in my bag no?
You can place them in any area around you. The bag can be a nice place for some things, but if it's getting crowded there, you can set them beside your board.
Wow! 38 minute HtP video! This seems like one of your longest videos. Have you done a longer one? I missed the kickstarter for this one, but I'm excited to have it on preorder at my FLGS.
Not a dunce question at all - an excellent one, in fact! Artifacts often cost food as well - so you'll find yourself collecting it to purchase those too.
Another two questions...what happens if you run out of hearts when you’re adventuring? I.e. 3 hearts left and you want to build a camp... also, what happens if a reward costs you coins, but you have none?
Nothing in particular happens. You'll likely want to return to town, because your options are pretty limited if you have no hearts while adventuring. If you don't have coins, you can't choose that reward.
Is it possible when you end you're moving on a space with a quest, after attempting the quest you move further in a single turn? let's say to go to a space with a trade route and to build a camp there. I know you cannot move after building a camp.
Hey great video! We are currently playing and struggling to figure out if you can use gems/rubies as coins ... Could I use a gem to buy an adventurer? Any help is appreciated!
Hey there, I'm always happy to try to help with rules questions, but if the answer is provided in the video, than I have to direct you there. If the video doesn't say that you can use gems or rubies as coins then you can't (I shot this long enough ago, I don't recall personally).
Nothing in particular. You just can't do anything that would require spending them (which probably means you want to head right back to town to do things there, so you can leave again later to reset your hearts for more adventuring). Hope that helps!
The symbols on that portion of the card are the costs to purchase the artifact. You'll find that discussed here: ua-cam.com/video/nFiNJ07cgnA/v-deo.htmlm38s
One thing I didn't understand is the following scenario: You pass between two empty spots, back and forth. From A to B and from B to A. Do you need to pay a heart for passing through B?
My only worry is with some of those players that look for loopholes (yes, you know the type). What is to stop them from putting down a single camp then spamming the treasure deck until they have the 2 items they want?? With one camp down it would allow them to get 2 treasures per heart spent. I might have to house rule something because we have one guy in our group that will figure that one out pretty quick
Remember they are limited in movement by the number of arrows they have as well. Mainly though, I'd be happy to have an opponent using their turn that way. treasures are good, but they aren't how you win the game, so that person would be burning their turns to dig for something, while I was getting quests done, fighting threats, dropping camps, etc. :) That said, the beauty of board games is that you can add rules as you like, to be sure!
While in your hand, their effects aren't active. To make an artifact active, you have to pay it's cost, and then you can place it face up in front of you - then it's ability is active. Hope that helps.
You don't even really buy them from the store (there is no cost, you just have to go to the space, then you take them into your hand). When they are in your hand, they don't do anything. However, once you pay the cost printed on them, you place the card face up in front of you where it will stay and continue to provide you its effect.
Oh that makes sense. Just one more question. Some of the artifacts have a faction banner. Does that mean you have to own a matching faction banner token to activate it? And if so, can a character with that faction be used to activate it instead?
One other clarification: you say that the points gained from reputation at the end of the game is the point value most recently landed at. So if I reached say +8 reputation, which is worth 4 points, but gained -1 reputation for some reason, and then the game ended, I would still get 4 points even though I'm now sitting between the 3 and 4 point spots?
Sorry, my wording made it confusing. It's based on where you actually are relative to the highest victory point score you're on, or to the right of. So in your example, that would give you 3 points.
While we sometimes cover expansions on the channel, it's not as common. Over 3,000 new games release a year, and we can cover about 55, so we normally we just feature the base games.
It's been a little while since I shot this, but I think there are some effects that you can trigger when your reputation is lower. That's me going from memory though :)
Not exactly sure. Kickstarter copies are going out now (some have been received), retail will be shortly after that, but I wouldn't want to try to guess when.
Florian Liouville I'm not quite sure how to answer the question, as the video indicates that faction symbols do count towards discounts, and can be used to pay for things. There is one spot in the video where I mention a faction symbol that can't be used, but that is in a specific case (when it appears on an artifact card, it counts as a cost that must be paid, not as a symbol that you can use). Perhaps I misunderstood the question. Do you have a time stamp of the area that caused the question?
at 11:31 you say that faction symbols on adventurers as well as lose ones count but the ones on artifacts don't. What are the symbols on the artifacts good for?
Any symbols shown on the left side of the artifact are it's costs. So if it shows a faction symbol, then you must have one in your personal supply to spend, in order to purchase that artifact. You'll see an example of buying artifacts here: ua-cam.com/video/nFiNJ07cgnA/v-deo.htmlm38s The rule at 11:31 is just to remind players not to mistake that faction symbol "cost" as a faction symbol that counts as a discount. Hope that helps, thanks for the question!
Yep this was about the only thing that I felt the video missed. I was wondering if a faction symbol showing as a cost meant you had to have an active adventurer in that faction to purchase the artifact. But now I know I need to use the faction symbols gained from quests.
So basically if I have a camp on one side of a threat and I would go back and forth over it I would never pay hearts for passing through an empty space, because I would always either leave it or finish my move on it?
If there is only a camp on one side, then when you go from it, to the empty space on the other side of the threat, and then back to your camp, you passed over a empty space. So that would cost a heart. You pay a heart if there is an empty space that, within the same movement, you are entering and leaving. Now if there were a camp on both sides of the threat, you could go back and forth between them, and you would not be crossing over any empty spaces, you that would cost no hearts (you'd still have to be able to afford to pay for the movement itself, of course). Does that make sense?
There's a mistake in explaining the treasure cards. The rules specifically say that if you don't have an available space for the new treasure card but you already have some, you have to decide if you want to swap with an old one *before* looking at it. You can also discard the new card. The video says you can look at the card before deciding.
Can anyone explain why the food tokens show different numbers (1 for bread, 2 for fish, 5 for bacon) when all food in the game has a value of 1? And why there are different amounts of bread, fish, and bacon tokens? Can't find this info *anywhere*.
I'm going to go out on a limb here, given that this video is half a decade old, but do the lovely people at WIP think this game can be played solo against an automa? ☝🏻

This is such a wonderful piece of feedback to receive. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comment.

We are really enjoying this sequel to Above & Below. Your videos not only introduced us to our favorite game designer, but also have taught us to play many of his wonderful games. Thank you, Rodney! :)
Ryan Laukat makes really interesting games - I'm so glad you have been enjoying them!
An adventure game where I can be a lizard guy, have a dog in my party, and instead of pack mule use a pack kiwi bird, all with ryans art.
If that's not the best sales pitch for a game, I don't know what is.
ha! I can't argue with you there.
Wow, this looks even better than I thought it would! What a beautiful game, bonus that the character can 'visit' A&B as well. So excited for this to arrive. Thx for such a well thought out HtP, helps a lot with setup and sussing out the rules!
Hope you don't have to wait too much longer :) Enjoy playing!
I kickstarted this game after falling in love with the art in Above and Below. A&B isn't a half bad storytelling/worker placement game either luckily. Cool that the N&F kickstarter included bonuses for A&B. Thanks for the video Rodney it looks like a doozy to watch!
There's lots of things to do in the game, but hopefully the dooziness is a little less so with the video :)
Excellent instructions once again Rodney, thank you! For big games like this, with thick rule books, your videos help immensely!!!
Very nice to hear - glad you liked it!
I love the way you explain stuff. You are so clear and thorough, and you never leave me confused!
I thought I had concreted my list of what games I want to get for Christmas, but seeing more videos like this one, I'm wanting to add more games to my list! Thanks for yet another awesome video!
So glad you enjoyed the video Fishtank - here's hoping there's a little more room in your stocking :)
Rodney
You always to a great job.
My wife and I have learned many of the 200+ board games I have now collected from you.
I think you do a wonderful job - and it is always a pleasure to see you playing with your son.
I also enjoy playing my my son (who is now 30).
Keep up the great work!!!
I love hearing of families gaming together - all the very best to you and yours Richard!
Thanks for this Rodney. Always appreciate the help you give in getting games to the table quicker.
+Board Games As Art You're very welcome! Glad you liked it :)
I learned all I needed to know about "near and far" from Grover.
+TheGreatHamEl Well I'm in good company with Grover then :)
Thank you, Rodney. We are "near"ly ready to play this game and your videos are tons of help!!!!
Have a great time adventuring (and thanks for the kind tip!)
Schwartz's is amazing! I was in Montreal on a visit once, and checked a local game store and had a sandwich.
I finally received my copy of Near and Far and I'm stoked that there is a character named "Vera!" Plus, I have watched your videos at Ryan's recommendation and I am grateful for you taking the time to show us how to play.
So glad you found the videos helpful Vera - I hope you have a wonderful time playing!
As usual, Rodney, a gold-standard rules video! There's a lot going on here, but it un-complicates itself quickly with your explanation. Thank you! This makes me so excited for our copy to come in the mail in a week or so. -Rich
+The Meeple's Academy Hope you have a great time playing Rich - glad to hear the video was helpful!
omg Ryan Laukat does it again. This game is absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks for checking it out!
Hi Rodney! I just bought Now or Never and was hoping you also covered that one but I fortunately I can’t find it. Hoping you will cover that one too some day since your always video’s help me so much 🙌🏼
Thanks for the interest!
Another comprehensive rules video, Rodney. Thanks. I've very excited. Hopefully it'll arrive in just a few weeks.
Glad you enjoyed!
Hey Rodney am liking the new intro music am getting used to it now, is very cheery like yourself :-) Thanks for doing this run through, am eagerly awaiting my KS copy.
Glad you're enjoying - and thanks for checking out the video. You shouldn't have to wait too much longer now!
Also, big thanks for your Above and Below Review it lead me to buy it. It arrived yesterday and it’s fantastic!
Very glad you're enjoying it!
Thank you. We played this tonight and really enjoyed the game.
Really nice to hear!
Awesome video. I recently bought this game and am now drooling to get it on the table!
Have a great time playing!
Great Work as always Rodney! I feel like this is my modern equivalent to Reading Rainbow as a kid.
A lovely comparison :)
…But don’t just take my word for it.
You've got it!
thanks for the tutorial. Just got the game and the instructions were way too confusing. Now I understand more clearly. Thanks a bunch
I hope you had fun playing!
I don't even own this game and still watched the whole video, maybe I should get hold of a copy :D Good job on the video!
Thanks for checking it out - glad you enjoyed it :)
Excellent video! Well explained and clear. Great job!
Thank you Anthony!
The best game reviewer ever!!!...and a very beautiful person!!!😊
Glad you enjoyed :)
I love how Islebound & this one have bonus cards you can use in Above & Below!
Neat that the world are all connected too.
Rodney! Very concise and clear video, as always! Great image quality as well.
I was wondering: How do you get your info across so fluently? Do you learn your texts by heart or do you use an autocue? Or just gifted with extreme narration skills :)
I write a script. I don't use a teleprompter, but I'll follow the script pretty closely, memorizing chunks of it at a time.
Good job Rodney, now I MUST have that game...damn
Hey - thanks for checking it out!
Great video! I can't wait to get my copy now!
Know Chance Games I hope you have a great time playing!
thanks for the walkthrough. this will help when my copy comes in.
My pleasure!
Thanks for the video, Rodney. I always enjoy your content and I'm looking forward to trying out Near and Far.
Really glad you came by to check this out and liked what you saw!
Thank you so much. In the future, would love if you could do time stamps for certain topics!!
Hey hey, we now have them on this episode too :)
Thanks man, I appreciate teh time to took to make this video. Very helpful.
Hey, glad you enjoyed!
This is an amazing How To Play, very clear and well explained! Thanks so much!
Thank you kindly for the nice words about the video!
Hey Rodney, another great video!! As you know I am a HUGE Ryan Laukat fan, so big thanks for the video and getting me ready for when my KS arrives. In design, pretty much anything's possible :) Good luck!
As always a great overview and rules break down!
Thank you kindly.
So awesome to watch this and then started playing. Only needed to have the manual for checkups, and that's is a big time saver. Also some roles ain't that clear and good to hear someone else opinion on them :D
Will defiantly watch more videos before playing new games!
Thank you!
Thanks Eric - very nice to know this was helpful!
Hey Rodney, loving the how to play guides, I have a request. Could you please do a how to play guide for Dark Souls the board game. Its only arriving from kick starter in 1-3 weeks. But I would love to reduce my Instruction reading time!!!
I won't be able to fit that into my current schedule, but maybe at some point in the future.
This is awesome! Can't wait to get it in the mail.
Hope you have a great time with it!
I plan to watch this four or five more times before it arrives.
:) I have a job. And I work more than 50hr a week. This is my way of relaxing from my job. :)
First play is tonight. Can't wait.
Hope you have a great time playing!
It was awesome! Grier never quite became a real boy, but he cleared the countryside of bandits and made a son out of spare parts. With honor!
Thanks Rodney, that was a mouthful!
You're welcome Jake!
cool seeing you @ Origins again this year, I think I bumped into you on your way to cameo in Chaz's video!
I'm getting excited now, even more-so than Xmas!!! :o]
Glad you're excited!

That's right - thanks Andrew!
When do you turn a packbird into a turtle? Or is this for another mode/map?
You'll see that discussed in the other video here: ua-cam.com/video/Z-l9Aip7MRg/v-deo.html (it's for when you use the other side of the board).
Hey Rodney, it took us about 2 hours to go through the rules and your video will significantly reduce the time for new players to get up to speed. Two questions that weren't clear for us

Glad you liked the video Tom!
1) It doesn't say this in the rules, but this is something I asked the designer, and he confirmed we have it correct.
2) It can be reduced to 0.
How do you obtain Faction tokens? Only though quests? I know I'm a few years late to the party, but great job on this and all your videos!!!
It's been a little while since I shot this one, but Quests is certainly one of the ways.
You can go to town hall and do some trading.
Great video, very clear. Am I the only one who thinks 40 minutes of rule explanation means the game has too many rules?
I'm sure you're not alone :) But then again, there are games with even more rules - so it's more a matter of ones particular tastes. Thanks for checking out the video!

Oh yes, I've done longer ones for sure :) Hope you have a great time playing this game!
One simple question. If you were to do a quest book, would you still be able to place a camp afterwards.
Definitely! You can place a camp, as long as you still have enough hearts left of course!
Brilliant, thank you Rodney
Thanks Graham!
I'm being a dunce but what are the uses for food aside from refreshing companions and buying pack birds? I must have missed it.
Not a dunce question at all - an excellent one, in fact! Artifacts often cost food as well - so you'll find yourself collecting it to purchase those too.
That makes perfect sense, thanks Rodney!
Great tutorial! Thank you very much!
Glad you liked it!
You can only attempt a quest on the space that you are ending your move on, so once you stop to do the quest, you won't be moving further.
Hi! Sure you mentioned it, but what happens if you run out of hearts?
Nothing in particular. You just can't do anything that would require spending them (which probably means you want to head right back to town to do things there, so you can leave again later to reset your hearts for more adventuring). Hope that helps!
If the faction symbols on artifact cards don't count for coin discounts or chiefs, what are they good for?
The symbols on that portion of the card are the costs to purchase the artifact. You'll find that discussed here: ua-cam.com/video/nFiNJ07cgnA/v-deo.htmlm38s
Thanks Rodney!!
You're welcome! Thank you for watching!
Any plans to do an Islebound How To Play video?
Thanks for the interest! I talk a bit about that here: ua-cam.com/video/EdtDuvIUa6A/v-deo.html&t=342
Did...did the wood background become lighter wood? Did you re-stain or replace the wood boards? Am I going insane?
You're not insane (I don't think) ua-cam.com/video/LmkMPCj3YUQ/v-deo.html
hi, i would like to ask a questions, can i play the "first adventure mode" on the 2nd and later maps? or it was restricted to the campaign mode?
It's been long enough since I shot this that I don't remember the exact rules for how the modes apply to one another.
@@WatchItPlayed oh okay, i guess i'll find out when the game is in my hands hahaha, thanks for replying! always enjoying your video guides :)
Can you please do a watch it played on Islebound?
I had the same thought while watching.
I avoid pre-announcing video plans in case things change (don't like to disappoint), but thanks for the interest!
So if you had 4 blue faction tokens and a blue adventurer is available to buy, does that mean it's free? Or is there always a base cost?
+Glenn Manser It would be free if the cost if the blue adventurer cost 4 or less. There is not a fixed base cost.
Wow, going to preorder this now. I love above and below, this looks even better!
Thanks for checking it out - glad you found it interesting!
Is this game connected to Above & Below beyond it being the same creator? It seems like a completely different play style.
I think exist in a shared universe.
One thing I didn't understand is the following scenario:
You pass between two empty spots, back and forth.
From A to B and from B to A.
Do you need to pay a heart for passing through B?
+Dometooplz Yes, you can think of it as having passed over B since you entered and left it on the same movement.
That said, the beauty of board games is that you can add rules as you like, to be sure!
Oh yeah, I forgot the movement limits. Here I was thinking it was just heart management. Good call!
Thank you for clearing that up! :)
I'm confused about the cards in your hand. Do you have to purchase them in order to put them in play, or can you just put them down at any time?
While in your hand, their effects aren't active. To make an artifact active, you have to pay it's cost, and then you can place it face up in front of you - then it's ability is active. Hope that helps.
So just to clarify, you can buy artifacts from the store, putting them into your hand, then pay whatever the price is on the artifact to activate it?
You don't even really buy them from the store (there is no cost, you just have to go to the space, then you take them into your hand). When they are in your hand, they don't do anything. However, once you pay the cost printed on them, you place the card face up in front of you where it will stay and continue to provide you its effect.
Oh that makes sense. Just one more question. Some of the artifacts have a faction banner. Does that mean you have to own a matching faction banner token to activate it? And if so, can a character with that faction be used to activate it instead?
If it shows a faction banner, than you must pay that faction banner token to purchase that artifact, returning the faction banner token to the supply.
How do you use these players for Above and Below???
Good question. I haven't tried that personally.
Thanks!
You're very welcome - thanks for the kind support!
Oh ok. No worries. : )
Why didn't you guys do a video of the amber mines expansion
While we sometimes cover expansions on the channel, it's not as common. Over 3,000 new games release a year, and we can cover about 55, so we normally we just feature the base games.
What if i want to buy mystic adventurer and it costs 4 gold, but i have 4 mystic banners. will it cost me 0 gold or it will reduce the cost to 1 ?
It will reduce it to 0. Enjoy the free Mystic!
Why would you want to decrease your reputation? Is there an advantage to that in some scenarios?
It's been a little while since I shot this, but I think there are some effects that you can trigger when your reputation is lower. That's me going from memory though :)
@@WatchItPlayed Thanks!
@@WatchItPlayed Yes you are correct. That's a very interesting concept, but this is a "Wild West" kind of game, so sometimes bad reputation helps! XD
When does this come to retail?
Not exactly sure. Kickstarter copies are going out now (some have been received), retail will be shortly after that, but I wouldn't want to try to guess when.
If the faction symbols don't count towards your discount or anything else, what do they actually mean?
You'll see an example of buying artifacts here: ua-cam.com/video/nFiNJ07cgnA/v-deo.htmlm38s
The rule at 11:31 is just to remind players not to mistake that faction symbol "cost" as a faction symbol that counts as a discount. Hope that helps, thanks for the question!
I had the same question :) thanks for clarifying!
Yep this was about the only thing that I felt the video missed. I was wondering if a faction symbol showing as a cost meant you had to have an active adventurer in that faction to purchase the artifact. But now I know I need to use the faction symbols gained from quests.
I do want this game NOW! Where is my KS parcel?
Hopefully soon!
"It doesn't matter if you use the cat or dog side." OH, RODNEY!!!! Of course it matters!!!!!!! XD XD XD
There's a mistake in explaining the treasure cards. The rules specifically say that if you don't have an available space for the new treasure card but you already have some, you have to decide if you want to swap with an old one *before* looking at it. You can also discard the new card. The video says you can look at the card before deciding.
Don't worry, there's not a mistake in the video. The rule book was incorrect on this point. This was something I discussed with the designer.
When you need help, Rodney’s near!
Have fun playing! :)
Can anyone explain why the food tokens show different numbers (1 for bread, 2 for fish, 5 for bacon) when all food in the game has a value of 1? And why there are different amounts of bread, fish, and bacon tokens? Can't find this info *anywhere*.
Those are just different denominations of food. Think of it like different denominations of money. Just like the 1 and 5 value coins. Hope that helps!
@Watch It Played Oooooohhh! That makes sense, why didn't I think of that lol. Thank you so much!
This game looks kind of heavy (for casual players like my wife) but geez it looks fun. I must have it.
Thanks for checking it out. My wife and I are thinking of doing a campaign of this, once this copy is done being needed for recording.
will be nice if you will do a video with AMUN-RE
+Rabesandratana Haven't played that one, but you never know!
It was reprinted this year and the graphic design seems to be very nice with pyramids and workers.
Moving 'Acrost' a space is about as Canadian as it gets.
Oh, I'm sure I'll top it eventually!
This seems like a complicated game, but I bet it's pretty straight forward once you actually play it.
Yeah it is and very rewarding too
Did you get a chance to try it?
I understand how to play (completely), but how do I teach people to play (easily)?
There's no easy answer for that! You'll want to tailor your presentation to the specific needs of your gaming group.
Watch It Played Your video is the only perfect answer. ; )
You're too kind - I hope it's helpful!
Watch It Played It is! It’s the only way to fully get it. These kind of videos make your channel a MUST! Thanks again!
OMG I need the kitten. I'm a sucker. That black kitty mama asks me to take her runt!?!!?!? OMG, she'll be with me forever
lol!
Anyone have Greek or some other language subtitles to this video that cannot be turned off?
I’m able to turn captions on and off here.
Well, one more time you made me spend money... lol
Hopefully on a game you'll enjoy! :)
oh yeah! I've got some nice metal coins, bread and fish tokens too lol
Is it just me or is the red on the table super bright? was hurting my eyes, had to put the brightness down on screen. Oh and dog..always dog :-)
Hard to say, everyone's screen can make colors appear different across devices.
I'm going to go out on a limb here, given that this video is half a decade old, but do the lovely people at WIP think this game can be played solo against an automa? ☝🏻
I don't know that I have the design knowledge to answer that (sorry!) - as far as I know one wasn't made for it.
above and below anyone? glogos?
+Vimal Kumar This first adventure is set right in the lands surrounding Above and Below :)
Watch It Played show them these coins and maybe they won't slaughter you
WAHOOOOOOO!
I like the enthusiasm!
