Great job on this video. Well told story. The skeet tournament shooter is part of a fairly small fraternity. I have been shooting skeet and tournaments for 7 seasons over 6 years, 2018-now, starting at age 56. Not a long period and am not a young man yet I know every person in this video by name. Have shot with shooters old and young from NY, MI, IL, NY, CT, CA, FLA , every state in the South, and everywhere in between and have squaded with multi world champs. Skeet is a wonderful sport.
I learned to shoot Trap with my Dad and Grandfather. The first time I tried Skeet I thought to myself, “why would anyone shoot trap over skeet”. I was hooked instantly. Then a friend invited me to go sporting clays shooting and everything changed lol.
@benstewart5717 Trap are outgoing targets, skeet are crossing targets. Sporting clays have targets coming from everywhere, no set patterns. That said I would recommend getting decent at skeet before trying sporting clays.
I am happy you had a good time. I shot skeet on a team for my local gun club for 25 years and met wonderful people in the Eastern Connecticut Skeet League. We competed through the whole winter with rain, fog, snow and sleet! By the way, shooting while it's sleeting is madness!
I have been shooting skeet for about 40 years twenty of them in the NSSA and I can’t find anything better to do and have as much fun with the family. Wish I could do more!! I am glad you finally did the video I asked for about sub gauge tubes . Also covering the World shoot was a great choice. Awesome job as usual!
Started shooting skeet 7 months ago, got hooked, hit my first 25 after 2 months, went and competed at one of the state championships, and hit my first 50 straight yesterday! Love this sport and the people that shoot it, glad you discovered it!
For anyone watching this from the UK and who would like a go at NSSA skeet it is available in the UK. Look up the British Skeet Shooting association. They will point you in the direction of one of the hosting grounds for "any gauge" and then there is the 4 championships they hold each year.
Dear Monsieur Jonny, as Again your overseas trip to USA have value of full sociologic documentaries! French retired sportsman last year owning a Gordon Setter and a Blue Picardy Spaniel instead I tries to shoot blue grouse, american woodcocks snipes and bobwhite quails in North Carolina and all your vidéos on USA have been an eye opener on all the traditions I will never be able to afford but that I know now that exist thanks to your open minded attitude of coming here, mingle with the best, and as you are in Rome, you do like the Romans! I discovered skeet at the Naval Air Station Club of Virginia Beach on my first stay three years with US Navy and if I never pass for a champion, actually my spouse overshot me all the time, what a nice way to practise what it was kind of training for shooting quails or any upland birds over pointing dogs, as I have been explained by oldtimers.... Well a fantastic vidéo Again, thanks for sharing and making us having a Great day watching, take Care !
We get a lot of people at our club that come in and tell us skeet is boring, all you have to do is ask them when was the last time they shot a straight at skeet? I have been enjoying it for 28 years.
After a 25 year hiatus from skeet, I’m just now getting back into it. I shot competitive skeet in my 30s went to one world in Savanna, Georgia and after watching Wayne Maze and Todd Paxton put on a clinic I thought to myself how much do I have to shoot to get that good? In the end, I decided it wouldn’t be fun for my wife who wasn’t really into shooting to spend all over vacation time following me around, so I just stopped and bought a boat. Older now and Retired. I decided I’d give it another go. In about two or three years I hope to be good enough again to go to another worlds. Maybe I’ll see you there. Either way great video. It makes me keen again!
Superb film Johnny, it looks like you had really great time. I've only ever managed one 25 straight at English Skeet (don't practice enough) I'm very much a casual shooter these days. I liked the idea of the tube sets, but when you google them, they're not really available in the UK.
Hope you had a great time here in the area again. You should have come up here to Boerne. Could have gotten you out to The Demolition Ranch at the Desperado Resort.
@@tgsoutdoors Sounds like a plan. I know it would be a blast, pardon the pun. Retired chef now but I spent two years as a kid growing up at RAF Alconbury so the least I can do is show you the same hospitality I got as a kid so my door is always open. Heck, I even have a bottle of Pimms on hand lol.
While you’re in San Antonio please go to the San Antonio gun club. No membership needed to shoot and as a Brit you would get a kick out of seeing how it’s right in the middle of the city 😂
Johnny, Skeet is totally mental...My last World Skeet Shoot I broke 646/650...Talk about not having my head screwed on and totally engaged...I missed high 1 in the 12, 20, 410 and doubles...The only event I ran was the 28...There were several 650s so I didn't get a sniff...The shoot-off in 28 took 2 days to determine the winner...In those years the shoot-off was shot using the standard round of Skeet...The next year shoot-offs were doubles at stations 3,4 & 5...I shot a 10 pound 4 ounce Briley tubed Perrazi MT-6...I shot the 28 in all events except 410...As I've been telling you if you want to be successful in 410 it must feel exactly like the 12 that fits you and shoots most consistently...My 28 average was 99.8 and when I was shooting all 4 guns my 12 and 20 averages were lower than 28 thereby determining that I only shoot the 28 for 12, 20, 28 and doubles events...Jim at Longthorne could fit your 12 frame with sub bore barrels that balance exactly like your 12 or whatever O/U your shoot the best Briley or Kolar could fit you for tubes and my money is on you to win the British 410 Sporting Clay Championship...To get sub bore consistency the gun you shoot must feel and look exactly like your 12 bore ...I purchased a Kriegoff 32 years 4 barrel set and it was a beautiful gun but I couldn't hit an Angus bull in the ass at 21 yards so I opted for one of Perazzi's ugliest guns as what many called the Buck Rogers special a MT-6 with the stripes on the sides of the receiver...Lots of 100's and 400's with Briley tube set...Go win that 410 championship!
Love the videos of the more traditional shooting soorts like skeet. I feel as if in the sporting clays mad shooting world of today, the traditional trap, skeet, DTL etc are dismissed by some as "too easy". They're only easy until you're on the last station with one shot to go to your first 25/50/100. Will we see Johnny at The Grand?
Was American skeet really that different from English skeet to where you still considered this your first time? I know you said the targets were a bit faster in American skeet but I didn’t imagine the difference would be that big
As you discovered Skeet isn't nearly as "easy" as most Sporting Clays folks claim. With Sporting a miss is not a big deal, with Skeet a miss means that you just flushed the opportunity for shooting 100 "straight" right down the toilet. Getting good at Skeet and staying there means lots and lots of practice, Those guys standing on the Champions podium have typically shot 75,000 to 100, 000 rounds in the year prior to getting to that position. Me, I'm an older Geezer who took up the sport in 2021 and "only" went thru 15,000 primers last year. The upside is I am shooting in the 20's, the downside is that I have yet to hit 25 in 410. It will happen, came very close about 1 month back, shot straight thru station 7 and missed on High 8.
I know you have to showcase new and different guns on the channel, but I'd love to see you just shoot one gun for a year to see how much of a difference that makes.
Love the channel. I’ve only been shooting trap n skeet for a couple years. I’ve also only been in RSO a range safety officer for a couple years, I am 45. Ultimately I would like to get proficient enough that I could join a competition such as this. As an RSO though I just had to get in the comment section and mention a couple of things I see pretty consistently that really bothers me. The old habit of resting a double barrel shotgun on foot has always put me off, it goes against the basic rules of never pointing a gun anything you don’t want to destroy. The other thing that bugs me are the fingers on the triggers. I noticed you and People on your channel mount shotguns fingers on the trigger and even in this video earlier on, you’re literally noodling your trigger, I know these are just habits, but they’re bad habits. I realize they’re exclusive to shotguns and in particular double barrel shotguns they’re still bad habits. Just saying my trigger finger doesn’t touch a trigger until after I’ve said Paul and sometimes not until I’ve identify the target. They’re called safety rules for a reason not safety suggestions.
I understand where you’re coming from but from a competition standpoint, some of these guys break the target so fast that they don’t have their finger in the trigger when they call, it will delay the break which changes the lead and results in a miss. Plus it’s just one more variable that would need to be the same every time. As for the foot thing I personally don’t do it but at least with an over under you are looking into the barrels the whole time so nothing can physically be in the chambers. That aside, seriously consider trying a competition. You’re only really competing against people around your skill level from D class with an average in the 60s up to AAA which is around a 99 and you’ll find everyone more than willing to help if you ask. Either way I wish you the best in your shooting endeavors and as a friend of mine would say as long as you shoot your average or better, you did good and if you didn’t, we’ll the targets were awful anyways
I think it’s about a 90 degree acr the machine moves so 45 left and 45 right from center. I mean I don’t disagree but I’ve also been shooting competition skeet since 09 so I’m a bit biased
You cant say that your the best in the world. As Long as you dont shoot olympik rules. And thats NOT American skeet! Try starting with the Stock,at your hip. And not pre Mount ! Lets see then
Let's see you go get 5 100 straight in each of the event first. 12, 20, 28, 410 and doubles. International skeet are only shot with a 12 gauge. Almost everyone I competed against can do low gun starts. The fact they don't compete that way doesn't mean they're not capable!
they got johnny to be quiet that is quite an accomplishment right there lol

Been shooting clays for 42 years. Don't like sheet, love Olympic Trap then Sporting Clays. I shoot in Barbados.
Every time you do one of these videos in America, I absolutely love it. I just wish we did something similar in the UK.
I do believe the NSSA have a chapter in the UK.
Brilliant film Johnny. Thanks to you all. Perhaps changed my love hate relationship with Skeet 😅
Met Johnny at the world this year, treated me and my girlfriend like family!

Ooooooh. You did really well. There is a real and subtle pressure gradient in that type of shooting.
What a fantastic shooting ground and great atmosphere👍.
Love the video. I have shot my 25 and it's why I love Skeet so much. Can't wait until Saturday.
Skeet! the only game in town. It's not as easy as it looks; especially International Skeet.

Best video on Skeet! Good one Johnny Carter 👋👍
Great Vid, always enjoy your ramblings, the Americans are great hosts.
Nice meeting you there Johnny and thanks for the heads up on the golden clay!
Best ever. A dream shooters paradise 👌
I for a kiwi it seems fitting that Andy Peter should cameo on a video about the NSSA Worlds. World famous in NZ! (14:30)

Loved the easy station hits comment. Nothing humbles more than a loss on low 7.
Jonny in cargo shorts!! Merica!! LOL 😄
Somehow tweed plus 4s seemed to be the wrong choice.
37C in tweed is a no!
Really enjoyed watching this, you do make some beautiful videos. Thanks 🙏
Wish I would have seen you there! Somehow I missed you. Good times!
It’s cool to see how you shoot Skeet in US. We shoot Skeet in Europe a little bit different with the Olympic style. 😅
Little trick, if your skeet field has a trap house in the center, most of the time the lead on the station 4 targets is the width of the trap house.
You’ve done it again! Jonny! Awesome Content.
Thank you
We get a lot of people at our club that come in and tell us skeet is boring, all you have to do is ask them when was the last time they shot a straight at skeet? I have been enjoying it for 28 years.

Good afternoon, a question. Today, is it feasible to shoot trap with a 2-trigger shotgun? Thanks
Of course it is feasible. In fact was singles trap it would make no difference at all.
Thanks for the response.

Skeet over trap 7 days a week, but sporting is king
"Shoot off" sounds a lot like "freak off"
