Out of all pages that I've came across, your video has been the most helpful. I made a list of things that you mentioned and will start my build in the near future since I've yet to restore my EP2. Plan is to get my Civic to 150 horses NA. Considering that my car has 110HP from Factory, I'm sure that it's not going to be too difficult. Thanks again!
Remember one thing. When it comes to these D series motors. The power is nearly all in the Cylinder Head. A good Camshaft, Intake Manifold, and Exhaust will boost you 25 - 30HP with a good tune. Porting the head and increasing the throttle body size will give you even more power and you will be right around 145 - 150 HP range. If you want to go even further and go higher you would need to bump up the compression, new pistons, shaving the head, etc. But if you're like me and daily the car, then its not going to be worth all of that just to get 160 - 180 hp NA, the car would be hard to daily drive and gas isn't going to be your friend lol. Realistically, if you want around 200HP in a D series, you would need to boost it.
@@Skronkidonk Thanks for the input! Yeah my EP will be a daily. That's why I want 150HP max for it and I refuse to swap it because it's expensive. I need to register the car again in a month. Ordered Tein Advance Coilovers last week and I'm planning on having them installed before the deadline. After that I'm doing a full air intake, I already had to replace the rear muffler and the exhaust tip for a Remus dual pipe so I'll get a custom exhaust done as well. It will be expensive but I don't want anything cheap and I don't want my car to be as loud as a train horn. I'll copy and paste what you wrote and keep it on my phone. Just in case. Thanks for the info! It will most definitely help in the long run!

I've driven a Mk7 civic with the D16V1 and now own and daily a Concerto with a D15B2. The plan for my Concerto is to get the car to 200-250 wheel hp. I could go B series but instead I'm going to swap to a D16A9 (the twin cam D series) and build that up instead to handle a supercharger!
Finding a cam for a d16y7 is gonna be tough and expensive. Best bet it to ship your stock cam to get a re grind. Much cheaper, but not all companies to mess with cams are willing. A full legit branded exhaust kit will make the car sound spicier in a good tone but the hp gains would be no more than 10hp tbh. A short ram isn’t a great idea because the filter and the intake hose will just absorb heat from the engine. Get a cold air if you dont boost the build. Turbos are fun as well as some of the superchargers. Just keep in mind that the supercharger will create way more heat. Like he mentioned, hondata is pretty much the best. You can use a Y8 intake manifold with some modifications. Not too hard but not lego either. You can “lock” vtec(look for a tutorial) but its not very healthy and its not worth it if you arent gonna boost the build. Pistons and such are pretty easy to find or have custom cuz honda. You can find a bigger throttle body by skunk or similar. I believe you can reuse a Y8 throttle body due to the cable/ throttle tensioner positioning. For cooling, theres tons of cheap and mid range to legit racing parts. 99 honda lx had a d16y8 with a manual pushing 102 from the factory to the crank. So you would in theory get about 50-75hp out ofall those mods without boosting. Keep in mind youd probably hit 75 hp with a flex fuel kit and if you change to a higher compression. But overall, a lil light civic pushing 150-175hp is really good. Youd be able to give a stock s2000 a run for its money along with those annoying v6 mustangs and maybe even stock 3v mustangs.

Scheduled oil sampling on my son's '97 Dodge with diesel engine showed much more silica contend with K&N oiled filters. When he switched to a washable dry AFE filter, any increase in silica content stopped. You can make your own decision. High flow with oiled filters might not be the best option for your engine's longevity, depending in where you live. We are in NM where dust always in the air with high silica content. I had always run K&Ns but don't any more. Would tend to think cold air intake filters would have the same issue. Probably not a real issue in areas without much dust.
For NA engines best upgrades are changing the exhaust system especially the exhaust manifold, performance camshaft, valve springs, remap ecu, installing fuel regulator. Wanna go for the extreme NA power then you gotta change high compression piston, port and polish your head.
I got my first car its a 96 accord sedan, what are some things i should upgrade for economy purposes? Chatgpt said turbocharging makes it more fuel efficient, but idk enough abt cars.
I’m just into building a D16Y8 into a classic NA screamer. No forced induction, nos or sorta things just classic NA engine tuning. Fully refurbishing the block, higher compression ratio, ported head, bigger valves with cnc cut seats, flow optimization and a bit of ecu trickery. And an overhaul of the transmission of course. I’m looking for 170-180hp which should be feasible and enough to get my Del Sol quick enough for scaring some Porsches… To be fair everything else is already been built up to racing spec just the engine needs to be done. And for all the people who scream turbo it or swap it…. Nope! I linke the uncivilized sound of the D16 revving up to 7500rpm and the pathetic old 4 speed automatic which I’ll need for reasons. I don’t need an exocet rocket but a bit more OOMPH to get my baby girl to maybe 250 kmh 🤪
I have a sohc d16Y2 and i just keep doing basic maintenance. For a 126hp it's very fun car, and doesn't fall short from 160hp cars. I have a 97 cx hatch with a D15B single cam with a 16 valve non vtec head from 00, I'm trying to swap it out to a 98 ex head which has VTEC but it's proving difficult for a little swap!
I've not much experience with the Logo so can't confirm for sure there must e someone out there who has done this that can comment on this for you. But in general though it should be possible to swap between these as long as the OBD generation is the same, which should make it easier. Another option is to drop on a SOHC Vtec head on it. This will net another 30HP over the stock. ECU will need to suit a VTEC head so something from a D1. Vtec ECU like the P0.
Increasing the SOHC Camshaft size are also provide better flow as good as DOHC is it not? A Single Cam act like a diesel which has good torque compared to DOHC, so turbo might be alternative choice for higher top speed right?
@@khalifaskho4223 yes but not at all , bigger cam do bring more power and more top end but its not gonna change the fact that bottem end is meant to be more torqy then b sereis when theyre all oem which means longer piston stroke and smaller piston size turbo just seems to be a fastest way for a budget build

Can you please elaborate on your full exhaust setup to get that Ferrari sound????🤔. I have a 1989 Integra D16a1 thats been in storage for 20yrs, & only 50k miles. I only put an old Lightspeed header on it back in 1995, but it was not a very good design & I may get a really expensive Endyne header, if it would give me that Ferrari sound! I also had a universal cool looking Remus muffler, but I know I would need a straight thru resonator mid pipe & maybe remove the cat & my idea was to install an Profabrication Anti Reversion Muffler off the header collector but see if they will build me a 2.5" or 2.5" or smaller to keep up exhaust velocity.
I must say the induction part isn’t true idk if there was sun wrong with mine but the old one was really okding it abck and I smacked a cold air on and the torque was so much better and I would say it have like 20 more hp

My 2003 D 17 has 212,000 on it and doesn't burn any oil and runs great
I have a d14z6 engine does any of this advise apply to my car because you keep talking about newer ones than mine and thanks 👍
Love the D16Z6 motor in my Honda need to trans swap from auto to manual then we gonna be golden
I’m looking for 170-180hp which should be feasible and enough to get my Del Sol quick enough for scaring some Porsches…
To be fair everything else is already been built up to racing spec just the engine needs to be done.
You are going to spend more than a b series swap and have less power. The d series head can not flow.
You might scare a porsche speedster
I have a sohc d16Y2 and i just keep doing basic maintenance. For a 126hp it's very fun car, and doesn't fall short from 160hp cars. Has a nice powerband for it's size, only thing i'd like is to add a 6th gear for top speed to reach the 250kph mark, even thought i never tested his stock top speed. But deff reaches 170kph without that much effort
😎😎😎 I got a D15z7 (3 stage vtec) in an Ek3 Ferio Vi, 128hp with The Cvt Multimatic, that thing movesssssss and keeps up with cars it has no business keeping up with 😂
@@ront5689 deff great engines, never thought with a 1.6 i could make 2.5's sweat their ass off trying to pull away. My car body is a Mb type, with a small spoiler, but deff works well, and the understeer ain't that bad. I also like the high compression rate 9.5:1 for gasoline is very respectable, i barely need to brake at all unless it's an emergency
I have a 97 cx hatch with a D15B single cam with a 16 valve non vtec head from 00, I'm trying to swap it out to a 98 ex head which has VTEC but it's proving difficult for a little swap!
Thats definitely got me thinking, I've got a 2000 honda logo with a D13b7 engine, would a D16w1 engine fit straight in ?
Loved that video.
Merry Xmas.
Hello! Any D-series engine will fit in, if the car came with a D-series motor: Remember, there may be differences in wiring.
Me and my friends want to pick one up and put a D17 in one. Twice stock power with 130hp and 800kg would be pretty punchy
Mate of mine is running a d16A in his one... pushing 250kw with a turbo setup
Thanks a lot!
Increasing the SOHC Camshaft size are also provide better flow as good as DOHC is it not? A Single Cam act like a diesel which has good torque compared to DOHC, so turbo might be alternative choice for higher top speed right?
@@khalifaskho4223 yes
but not at all ,
bigger cam do bring more power and more top end
but its not gonna change the fact that bottem end is meant to be more torqy then b sereis when theyre all oem
which means longer piston stroke and smaller piston size
turbo just seems to be a fastest way for a budget build
Rn i have a d15y8 lol with a skunk 2 manifold spectre intake ,open headers dual vtec and getting a new ecu n need a iac but car still drives good rn
Man you got no idea bud. A b16a1 is the first vtec motor built and out in a production car. And it was in a 1989 integra coupe.
Do you also have a website called torque cars? I’m sure I stumbled upon it in the 2012s when I had a seat Leon FR 170 and my head kep cracking 😂
I do www.TorqueCars.com so welcome back. You've gone Honda on us now then? What have you got?
@@torquecars nope had a d15b years ago as my first car eg6 coupe with an sir2 kit. Got a plethora of vehicles now but stu, bled across your website back when I had a Leon fr 2011. Strangely gone backwards on the diesel front got a b7 a4 avant ppd 140 now. Majority of my other vehicles are 6 and 8cyl BMWs
Crazy thing if you wanted cheap power swap b18 is good, but a f22 or h22 would be a little better still.
I have a 16 valves d15b2 engine that I put together with my own hands around 10.1 or little less comp or little more I build the engine mostly from junkyard parts port and polish head and 3 angle valves job 20 over pistons skunk 2 cam D16 manifold with nice air filter b18 fuel injector si transmission and other little things like free flow exhaust system and I tune the thing up a bit no much and I put it back to my 89 CRX to some weight out and build her a bit lighter with aluminum parts suspension and flywheel ECT and I can say for what it is make the big boys shake a bit in higher rpm all that crap about VTEC and turbo don't mean crap waste of money really that more for racing I being with my in the highway neck to neck with big boys with my little d15b2 engine and I can say she pull real hard in higher rpm for what it is and here is a example that weight really matters when come between HP I love my set up enough for me to have fun cheap to maintenance and gd on gas in cities she is to fast for the big boys she don't run she fly side walks and alleys CCR born in the byouooooo and really if we compare price and maintenance my still come above and in looks my get all the attention old school style nothing fancy hills style and believe me she sounds like a Ferrari when she starts to run I build my own free flow exhaust system silence in lights and Ferrari sound when she starts pulling no that regular Honda crap sounds and I build her with hardly anything compared to turbo crap VTEC etc and here I'm neck to neck with them in the streets and highway with my little falcon
I have a zc dual carb dc1 and I don't know the best way to add more power since there is little to now information on the Japanese dual carb d series engine
There's a few things you can do to pep it up a bit !
5:24 What? Honda OBD 1 ECUs are very easy to tune. Just get yourself a cheap programmer (like the TL866), a free software (like HTS) and a wideband O2 sensor and you're ready to go.
What about OBD0 which I think my 89 Integra has?
@@chrispompano I'm not sure. But I think some people got a conversion harness and a chipable OBD1 ECU.
My 1999 ek runs beautifully with 300’000
I have the 2003 civic with d14z5 planning on putting short ram on it. Just want to see will it make difference with fuel economy, and also improve the sound at the moment you hear the roar.
what....
What
It would sound better, but may reduce throttle response af low speed. Throw a k&n filter in the stock airbox
i have no idea what year my honda even is it was converted to left hand drive in 2005 but is not a 05 model i know its a civic with dual carburetors
I build know long ago another d15b2 block with po8-3 head no VTEC or turbo I used better head gasket shave the 10 over port mild used obdo distributor with some adjustments lighter flywheel gd clutch kit header 272 Delta cam regrind re road all crap and put a Weber on old school style on a CRX Honda and believe me she can hustle real fast and real perpyy touch the gas and she jumped fast beautiful thing to drive her sound is like a ford muscle car man man I put a short gear transmission and hell know iit became a monster in the streets HP and responds is crazy from stock and yes is all motor
I got d17 but no vtec sadly
Turbo it and it’s pretty much like vtec but better
D16v1 still pulls like a train 120000 miles
Is he saying Honder?
That British accent 😆
Yes I guess I do say it like that, which I never noticed before, it is the good old regional Southern British accent striking again. I will try harder in the next Honder Video sorry - Honda Video.
@@torquecars Great video tho! Thanks 👌
Best d series mod is a b series😂
@@kylelaughinghouse1893 😭 😭 😭
Well yeah I don’t going to liar but b series is a bad ass motor but d16 you can tune with a single cam and turbo on it you can get 400 hp is not bad for a Honda

Does someone know d16v1 can get to 200-250hp without turbo!
How?
never in this life :)) probably with TSS CAI + exhaust manifold + bigger exhaust and a soft upgrade you will get max max 135-140hp
Yes with nitrous, cam, injectors, rods, head porting, valve spring and 9000rpm ect, basically a race/drag build waste of time, just turbo it
So nothing makes it faster?
Ebay turbo 10psi 200 whp if you want cheap
Does that strain the engine a lot?
a frustrating engine to make good power n/a, twin cam blocks and heads do not interchange... zc, d16a8 d16a9 - use SOHC variable cam gears and sohc lower pulley to get cams corretly timed. an old engine that still works definitley not a power house for 1.6 L
