    Fabulous, I could taste the cement in the air in one layout

    This gives me a lot of inspiration as I don’t have alot of space even in N gauge

      You can model in even the smallest spaces. If you can put an N Gauge layout in a small suitcase you can model virtually anywhere! Hope my video has helped you make a start. Andrew

    I have always wanted to build a shelf layout of my local station, this maybe the push I need to go ahead and start it.

      Hi Norbert, thanks for you support as usual. Have you considered rising to the challenge and building an exhibition layout?

      @@andygebbie Your welcome always. I'm unable at that time. I have a very large collection of British, French, Belgian, Austrian, and German locos and trains but not yet a layout till today. Eventually I will start in a few months.

    Scott Cunningham's N scale layout at 3m45s looks very much like the country seen from Ashcroft, B.C., through Cisco and Spence's Bridge, Hell's Gate and on down through the Fraser Canyon. For those interested there are several videos made in 2018, approximately 30 minutes each, showing these sections, moving south from Ashcroft down past Spence's Bridge. This is breathtaking country, and the full-size trains of both CN and CP seen against the mountain backdrop from a distance look very much like N scale models. Many of the consists are unit trains carrying grain, petroleum, potash (fertilizer), metallurgical coal and intermodal container traffic, with both loaded trains and "empties" traveling the route. Auto racks, lumber, and freight boxcars from many railroads can be seen. Both railroads routinely run trains with well over 100 cars. In many sections CN and CP share their tracks, with (for example) CN track carrying all westbound and CP track eastbound for both (or vice versa). In cases where the rails are blocked by rock slides (which happens quite often), both railroads use the clear track. Much of the Canyon is controlled by RTC, and it's one of the few places where you'll heard common dispatchers for both roads on the radio. It's not unusual to see one or two mid-train robot locomotives (or sets of DPUs), plus one at the rear, as well as 3-5 GE or EMD locomotives on the head end. "Foreign" power is often seen, with leased or run-through locomotives from railroads in the United States such as U.P. in a variety of paint schemes depending on the age of the locomotives. Passenger trains also regularly pass through, both Via Rail and the "Rocky Mountaineer," a private company that operates "scenic" trains through the Rockies, with distinctive rolling stock and many "dome cars." Traffic on this route is heavy, so there's plenty to see.

      Hi Jim, thanks for the information. I spoke to the builder of the layout who said he had travelled to the area and gained inspiration from the scenery. Andrew

      @@andygebbie Thank you Andrew. I wondered if the builder might have visited the area. I grew up in that part of western Canada, and as impressive as railroading was then, the size and volume of freight consists moving in both directions has doubled and redoubled. Double-tracking has been going on for many years, with new sidings being added and existing ones extended. A conductor friend on the CN remarked that "A 6600 foot siding is too short for most of the trains now." Best regards.

      Brian you are the first of, I hope, many that will take up the challenge of building an exhibition layout. Keep me updated with pictures, even a bare board with pencil lines where you plan to lay the track is going to help a lot of others. When this is all over I hope to see you at a future exhibition so that I can feature your endeavours in one of my videos.

      @@andygebbie thank you. I will do, got basic materials for a 4 x 2 foot branch line terminus with a whisky distillery and my own brand of spirit, already designed. Will be DC. My goal is to exhibit it when finished. All the best.

    Hi. Some really great micro layouts, especially Kendal Station. BTW: I'm most intrigued by the loco on display behind you in your talk to camera shots; can you give us a little info?

    • @andygebbie
      @andygebbie  4 роки тому

      Hi Paul, thanks for taking the time to comment. Ok its confession time I have never built a model railway, although I really love videoing them and showing them to everyone on UA-cam. The loco behind me is my passion for railway modelling. It is a 5 inch gauge live steam loco I built a few years ago. I built it from a kit which took me about 2 years to complete. I have sit on coach which I control the engine from. I'm a member of the Scottish Model Engineering Trust which has its base about 7 miles outside Perth in Scotland. We have nearly 2km of ground level track which is dual gauge 5 inch and 71/4. I also have a 71/4 electric loco which is being redesigned into a World War 1 Dick Kerr petrol/electric loco. Very much Work in Progress. My passion for smaller gauges started last year when the Perth Model Railway Club joined us at our base and I helped out at their annual Model Railway Show.
      Here is a link to one of my videos from the open days we hold each year.

      We are building a centre of railway modelling excellence in Scotland with gauges from N all the way up to 71/4 inch.

    This video, like many, would be much improved by including a trackplan of each layout. Strange that you didn't recognise the Inglenook layout.

    • @andygebbie
      @andygebbie  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Dave thanks for taking the time to comment. Regarding track plans my only source would be magazine articles which if I reproduced in a video would be in breach of copyright and UA-cam would delete my video. Check out the layout Dead End Siding where I state that the layout is set up as an Inglenook shunting puzzle.
