    Love cruisers, thanks for going over them, also as far as Battlecruisers go, consider suing the British ones, like the Renown and Hood as examples.

    Cruiser is a large multipurpose warship, what basically is a operation base for entire guild. Those ships basically can do everything cruising around the space and blowing things up. Basically indefinitely (full facility including rafinery). The only exception is that they generally should not fight other capital ships. Which are typically designed to take them out. That is all.
    Battlecruiser is basically the same, but with some traits of the Battleships and they job is specifically hunting the other Cruisers and support of the fleets during the battle. Though typically they aren't as capable in this role like proper battleships.

      I forget to mention. Cruiser is the only case where combination Warship and a Carrier make some sense. It is even actual thing called Cruiser-Carrier. it is because Cruisers generally also shouldn't take a hits, relying on hit and run tactics. And they also may use crafts for scouting, what also is one of main jobs of this type of ships.
      Battle-carrier is abomination and instant red flag, until you intentionally do an alien design.

    You said cruisers don't bully; but thats exactly what cruisers were originally meant to be as they were the commerce raiders which is bullying transports and freighters. Even the battlecruisers despite being big capital ships were also commerce raiders which is why they were originally called battlecruisers and not fast battleships. The cruisers were also originally being built larger to keep certain ships from coming after them so the enemy has to send either a group of ships or the same size ship to get rid of them because cruisers were the biggest bully's of them all and they remained that way all the way up until WWII.
    Otherwise great video; but I'm surprised that you don't go into the subtypes of light and heavy cruiser.

      Yeh. I put it that way. While Frigates are low end Jack of all Trades. Cruisers are large, multipurpose ships what are basically flying basses. While not expected to fight Battleships, they absolutely wreak havoc among anything smaller. The big thing about them is that because they are self-sufficient. They can be basically anywhere. Lurking in the void to raid your base and leave you crying.

    Should ships be classified by their weight class or their role? I'm new to the game and I've made a couple of ships I consider frigates that are in-between the 500-700,000 kg range, and one I consider a destroyer that is in the 5mil kg range. The destroyer has a quad battery of 600mm cannons (LYNX weaponcore pack) that just bashes frigates and other ships in the face. I was going to make a cruiser next that was going to be moving my base from planetside permanently into space.

      Yes thar can be a factor. Corvettes are usually the smallest, next is frigates, destroyers, assultships, cruisers, carriers, then batle ships.

      The origin of the destroyer class comes from the need for a ship that was capable to intercept and _destroy_ threats like submarines and torpedo boats which regularly harrassed the civilian and larger military vessels that were more specialized against their own size.
      Anything designed to fit that role I'd say would naturally gravitate toward the lines destroyers are known to have: being able to catch up to and bully smaller vessels down to the smallest class a military would employ, while being armed and armoured enough so that doing the following is as risk-free as possible within a reasonable budget, so they can be deployed a bit all over the place to defend various assets without having to create another economy just to keep them manned and maintained.

      It was now in modern times missile destroyers are like a jack of all trades destroyer with several missle types that can individually kill a ship of simular size.

      Ship is always classified by the role. Everything else is relative.

      @@cdgonepotatoes4219 That is actually a myth. Name come from Spanish Torpedo Gunboat Destructor. What was large enough to be capable of fallowing fleet from port to port. After Destroyers grow to accommodate modern threats, they were replaced in original size category by Corvette.

    I think the problem is continuing to use age of sail classifications into modern times and then into space fairing times. The past is holding this conversation and a new more appropriate set of classifications back.

      Well its a natural transition from sea ships to space ships. Also we haven't made any space ships yet as a species that could be given a classifacation.

    • @EngiRedbeard
      @EngiRedbeard Рік тому +1

      Is it natural? Seems more like aircraft or submarines are closer to natural as they don't operate on the surface of something, more like a 3d environment. You can't rotate a ship quickly to bring guns that on one side of a ship in the water, but in space, you can rotate any which direction while moving in any other direction at rotational speeds that depend on mass and rcs torque. Very maneuverable aircraft for very shot periods can point their guns in a different direction than they are flying, seconds really. Subs can do this at all. Space is an entirely different environment. We should probably transition to spacecraft from spaceship to cut the cord. Then mass and function seem like variables that should determine names. Measuring space ships by length makes no sense as they can be shaped what ever way they need to be to do what they do.

      @EngiRedbeard yes they would be more I can to aircraft or submarines that's what I'm talking about is the fact that you still have the same type of classifications in size and job that the ship is supposed to function at more than likely if you were to make like an aircraft carrier on there it would have aircraft on two sides instead of just one flat top All Ships that we would be having going into this classifications when you get to space you almost could have to double up the guns on both sides not like they wouldn't be like the Yamato in the anime you would still have guns you basically be taking two ships cutting the bottom haul out and just welding them together to create one ship with two sets of weapon systems on top or bottom depending on how the ship is supposed to be classified or what the job of it supposed to be used for.

    • @TheRezro
      @TheRezro 6 місяців тому

      @@EngiRedbeard Yes. It look unnatural only because people don't understand what ship classes do on the first place. It is not a size based thing.
