    PS/2 mice and keyboards of new manufacture are still plenty plentiful from the usual online retail sites

    The edge connector is likely for an external expansion card or cartridge. The speed jumper might be for attempting to port BASIC games from other platforms.

      its for expansion potential for when putting the board into that low profile case that pretty much blocks use of the vertical mount slots

    8bitguy showed there was another app in the menu (or maybe it isnt in the rom yet?) but u could adjust the dmensions of the display to resolve the stretched out of bounds issue u showed in your montior. I am too lazy to find the few videos he demonstrated it. But there is a tool so u dont have to see those black borders.

    I thought this had been abandoned- is there another board run coming out?

      They are likely starting on the cheaper versions.

    The whole thing could have been an ARM chip on a board and nobody would have really noticed. FPGA was the way to go because the DIP chips are getting rarer and will eventually run out. It was unfair of Mr Murray to put the preservation of classic machines, arcade cabinets and pinball machines at risk by depleting the stocks of vintage parts that are no longer manufactured.

      The whole computer is a dumb idea. I have no idea why anyone would want one. It's an obsolete computer with no software. You can buy an Amiga cheaper and still have the option for basic.

      FPGAs are more expensive and many of the DIP chips on these boards are still being made, including the 6502 CPU. The entire idea behind the project was to make a computer that ran on original hardware. Emulation generally creates idiosynchronies with clock timing mismatches and the difference in CPU instruction sets. It's not that I don't get where you're coming from, but these computers do exist for a reason, however small the community of interest is.

      No arcade machines or vintage computers are at risk because of the X16. No vintage stock is being depleted. The majority of the ICs and components are still manufactured today. Yes this was designed to use NEWLY MADE components not vintage stuff. And yeah an FPGA can recreate most things but you miss the point of this computer. It is a true retro computer. Something that could have been made in the late 80s or early 90s. It is for fun.

      @@theoriginaldansterAhh yes classic 1970s and 1980s technology, the Field Programmable Gate Array, made by your beloved David Murray himself. 🙄🤡

      @Skellotronix 2 місяці тому

      @@RacerX-Yeah because using chips from the 1980s that were used in most computers including arcades that aren't being manufactured anymore doesn't hurt those machines that actually need them at all. You're right, David Murray has found a miracle cache of unlimited non production chips. What is with you idiots defending with such shit?

    2:40 It's a very cheap and poorly made keyboard.
    I honestly have no idea why anyone would want one of these. It's an expensive obsolete computer with very little software.
    An Amiga would be a much better purchase. It also has a built in basic. There are 10s of thousands of games and software written for it.

    • @tarstarkusz
      @tarstarkusz 2 місяці тому +1

      @@CaptainXJ I have no idea what you mean by this. Learning to play an instrument is not the same thing as buying a computer 30 plus years out of date that doesn't have any software. Not to mention it's not the only one. There are a bunch of them. There are at least 4 modern obsolete computers trying to recapture a long gone era.

      @@tarstarkusz its a hobbyiest computer. Its not intended to be the next apple computer mate.

      @@Alucard_Seven So is an Amiga and many other abandoned computer systems with thousands of good games available for them.

      @@tarstarkusz does this hill u standing on really worth it to die on?. its a hobbyist computer people will make things for it. yes the amiga and the other not really abandoned computer system (retro community still actively developed for those platforms as well). Doesnt mater if other platforms have more games people will find an interest and do stuff with it. With the spectrum how big do u think the user base it ofc its going to have a small library of software.
