There's a very good chance that the old man she speaks of who answered her advert was my grandfather, Andrew Watson, he lived in London at this time, kept fruit bats under his coat and was the president of the British Bat Association. He also helped on various hammer horror films and I believe one of them was perhaps vampire circus... he had a couple of tales regarding that. I rather suspect he contacted this lady to join him... to be honest, I would imagine, if they met and I think it very likely they did, he'd have fallen head over heels in love with this lady as she is absolutely lovely and, like him, well, batty as they come. I saw this a few years ago actually, after his death, and it was very strange to see her and think "I'm quite sure my grandfather fell in love with her... somewhere in his papers, somewhere, there'll be a poem written to her, I'm sure of it!"
BEAUTIFUL STORY! This is what UA-cam comments are all about. adding so much more to the story. God bless your grandfather! Sounds like a very interesting man who lived an interesting life! Bless him and you for sharing.
@@noongourfain Aye, he's swooping through the night air of India now, when not hanging up-side-down in a grand cavern, doing what he loves. 😉 ...Mmm. There's a film here I may make one day. Like you, I find there's something strangely emotive about posthumously recognising a love that likely went unspoken... there's something curiously mystical about it.
Dear Leo.......I do hope that your mother is still with us?! Do send her my very best of wishes........that piece on her and dear Balls has stayed with me, in the part of my mind labelled, 'Treasured Memories', ever since it was aired. I love fruit bats thanks to your dear mum! . Andrew
Brings back memories as I did some artwork for Cheerie went she was a Reading Uni. I was an art teacher in Bracknell. in the same year as the video. Sad to have lost touch.
what happened to stories like this? Such a sweet young lady sharing her simple joy. Those days are long gone. Today bats fly out from between their legs 😂😂
That bat got too drunk, and ripped her eyelids off one morning, and Balls eventually drank himself to death, in a depression over not being able to see her anymore. She should’ve known there was guano be trouble…
The fruit bat youtube channels are all from Australia. These women save them all day every day! Cause those bats live in cities and city parks and really get themselves into trouble. There is the baby bat season when they raise the orphans and let them free, so they can pollinate all the trees, fruit and flowere. Normal people hate them because they poop all over and eat the fruit in the gardens. But what else would you expect?
Has no Cricket team ever had a bat for a mascot? In U.S. baseball I’m pretty sure a team tried having a bat, being the mascot, as a bit, but I don’t think it worked out. They really do crap a lot. I wonder how many times she’s had Balls dropped a load on her face or chest. 🤪
You see when God made man He intended for us to interact. There's a book called "Beautiful Jim Key" simply one of the best examples. A horse and his friend. Also the story of Snowman, another horse. But who reads anymore?
She is amazing, and treats Balls as he should be with constant attention and social care
A quaint English cottage, an attractive young lady, an adorable bat and a gorgeous brass bed. What more could a vampire want.
🤣🦇
Her middle name is Mina.
@timthelamb
It's a FRUIT bat you pervert!
My God!

Lonely hearts column a few years later: "Old bat seeks new mates. Blue eyes. Likes a tipple."

Fruit bats are beautiful....one of my black cats reminds me of one with the same cheeky expression and big eyes!

One wonders whether she ever took Balls the Bat to cricket? But being a fruit bat, he would no doubt think cricket intensely boring
She should have but him in a baseball team, he would have been a wonderful baseball bat!
