This is very helpful. I still had trouble! It helps to understand that the refill is 4 1/2" long and has two connected sections. 2" of it are the white eraser. The rest of the refill is a clear, hard plastic that goes into the pen and is held inside. My refill would not go in because the thin, hard, clear plastic part was still inside the pen. I had to click the black end of the pen many times to release the clear section stuck inside. Cool eraser for details in charcoal drawings.

I used the plastic from another eraser and pushed it up. Because I found it impossible to grab and pull out. I finally got this way.

Thanks, very useful and clearly an issue for lots of people. There is a picture on the refill pack (now) but to be honest it's still not 100% clear and I don't read Japanese so I couldn't read the written instructions either.
Slightly disappointed that the refills (the two I measured anyway) are about 114mm long; 64mm plastic, 50mm eraser. That's approximately 56% plastic, 44% eraser. Why so little eraser Tombow? 🤔
