  • Recently or 80 series Land Cruiser had developed a belt squeak. Upon inspection, we found the noise was coming from the A/C compressor belt tensioner pulley. This is how we replaced it. If you have any questions about this repair, we'd love to hear them. Comment below! Please don't forget to subscribe!

    Thanks for the video. Was wondering why couldn’t get pulley off the stud. Was hoping didn’t have to undo the long tensioner bolt completely. Thought would come off stud after loosening the front nut. Working on a 4Runner but take same pulley so learned from this video

    I know filming while working on a car is a pain. Most of us cant or will never do it. keep it up! I look forward to seeing your future repair videos.

    Thanks for the video. It’s not easy to get the camera angle right AND make the repair in such a small space. You did a great job. I’m changing mine tomorrow

    Thanks for the video. My FJ62 has the same set-up but the nut on that pulley is really stuck. So much that I wasn't sure exactly how it was supposed to come apart.

    You mentioned at the end there’s not much information on these trucks. IH8Mud is pretty much the Bible for all things Land Cruiser. Especially FJ80. I’m sure you’ve been on that forum but noting it case not, or for others

      Tedro Peders thanks for your input. I have been on Ih8tmud and it is a good resource. I’m not very big of forums though, as the threads always seam to turn into a great debate as to who is correct and who is not. But it’s definitely worth mentioning. Thanks again!

    I have used your video but need some advice. You show you put the old washer back in the back in the old pulley. According to Toyota there is no such part. I bouught a Cruiser that did not have the pulley. Do you have any thoughts or can you show what the washer looks like

      Max Butler I don’t have a close up of the washer at this time. I’m not sure if it was something they only did on certain years. In the parts catalog, it looks like there are three different part numbers listed depending on option code and year. It maybe possible that my year had this for correct spacing. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.

      I see a washer on the photos for the older models. Mine is a 1997. I think I need to order the older part as it contains the washer you speak of. Thanks for the response

    Was yours making a lot of noise? Im having a lot of rattle-like bad bearing noise and this one has a lot of wiggle to it. I ran my 80 in temperatures below -40°F for a few days so I think the belts got hard and messed up the pulley bearings a bit

    Nice video, I think I put my belt on too tight last year and now my bearings in my AC compressor are shot. Still blows cold but just squeals whenever the AC is on. Have you replaced just the clutch on the compressor before?

      I haven’t, but I believe there is a write up on ih8mud.com about it.

      I have the same issue on my HDJ81V. Trying to find part number for bearing and want to find a belt as well while I'm under there.

    How do you know when it needs to be replaced?

    • @FamilyAdventuresOverlanding
      @FamilyAdventuresOverlanding  4 роки тому +2

      Typically it will be associated with a belt squeal. The best way to tell though, is to take the belt off and spin the pulley by hand. It should turn smoothly and make little to no noise. If it wiggles front to back or sounds like rattling beads or binds, it’s a good indication that the bearings are compromised and replacement is needed. I hope that helps and thank you for watching!

      The pulley on my Cruiser started to squeal upon startup as a function of temperature. Hotter no squeal colder more squeal...

    Thanks for the video brother. Subscribed. I'm still trying to figure out where the two wires coming off the AC compressor go. I know one goes to some round looking thing under the heat plate but can't get in deep enough visually to see which one goes where. Sucks. I don't see it even in the FSM.

    After removing the front bolt, loosening the long bolt it won’t budge. Will not move upward. It’s a pain in the ass.

    Do you have an information on belt part numbers?

    • @FamilyAdventuresOverlanding
      @FamilyAdventuresOverlanding  4 роки тому

      I do not, Sorry. I usually use www.toyotapartsdeal.com to look up my parts before calling the dealership to order them. You can order parts directly from that website too. I had access to a wholesale account at my last job, so I always ordered from the dealership.

    Thanks, mate, this was nice and clear and helped me out. But please, take your ring off when working on your car! I do not want to see you snag that on something and blow your finger gasket.
