    I feel your pain in playing "spot the differences" between reference shots (a la howl's moving castle's ever-changing details ). We will never know which is the _true true_ furnace, but your hybrid furnace is best furnace

    • @MechanicalFiend
      @MechanicalFiend  3 місяці тому +4

      If there is ever a day where something is completely the same in every single reference image, I will truly be shocked! Howl's Moving Castle kinda gets a pass for me though because I don't think I could keep all of those details straight either honestly. Getting to pick your favorite pieces to put on a project is part of the fun!

    Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy it's the box!!! Oh man... your reaction. I'm so touched and pleased that you're happy with it. Thank you so much for sharing it on your channel, that means the absolute world to me. And sorry for being so late to your video! I'm a little out of touch these days with the YT, but glad I at least saw this when I did.

      Not at all, I am the one that was incredibly touched that you would send it my way! I mentioned this to you already, but you really did such a fantastic job with the box- the amount of thought you put into it... it's just so well put together. There are so many things I've never had the chance to try before, so let me just say thank you again- I am so incredibly grateful and will do my best to put everything to good use. Also... late? You're absolutely not haha, I appreciate you watching at any time, of course!

      I know they're doing a live action netflix series and I don't know loads about it, but honestly I don't ever really expect them to do the show justice. Part of me feels like it just doesn't work as live action... think I'd rather watch the show again lol

    My favorite fictional vehicle is the one my Aunt made up when she used to tell us stories as kids. It was a winnebago that had 4 different colored buttons in it. The blue button turned it into an airplane, the green into a boat, the white into a helicopter, and the red back into a winnebago.
    If I had to pick something other people would also know about, it would either be the magic school bus or the TARDIS.
    ...I may have a thing for transforming vehicles now that I think of it.

    If you’re going to make a ball/balloon again it recommend trying HD foam (cosplay foam). Little less scary making round shapes, but way less fragile

    • @MechanicalFiend
      @MechanicalFiend  5 місяців тому

      Papier-mâché is actually surprisingly sturdy when you do enough layers of it- it gets quite hard, but it's also easy to cut, which is kinda ideal. One of the reasons I like using it is because it is just so light, so when I'm hanging stuff like this, it's great. I've never worked with HD foam (unless it's the same as craft foam?), so I don't know if it's also super light!

    To smooth your paper mache, have you ever tried a layer of drywall mud over it? I do it often with mine, and over my paper clay. It can be sanded perfectly smooth, sealed with primer and/or woodglue and painted. You can mix it with pva, paint, all kinds of things. Best part about it is you can get it in a powder mix, or premixed in a box at home depot etc for less than twenty bucks. And it's a huge box. If you make sure your hands are clean, you get all the air out of the plastic,.. Twist and fold it over and use a wire tie, then flip the box upside down so the opening is down to store it... It will last forever and not mold or anything. I've had mine like.... Almost two years now. Try it!! I'm always very (I can't stress how very..) broke. So my budget is like... Zero dollars. I love your channel!! Thanks for the inspiration! ❤

    • @MechanicalFiend
      @MechanicalFiend  5 місяців тому

      I haven't! That's something I'll have to look into, thank you so much for the tip! Is it heavy at all? Because usually I use papier mache because I need the project to be light, so that's always a big factor for me. Sounds really great though! Sometimes I also do a layer of the papier mache mixture over top after without the paper and that often helps smooth it significantly as well. Totally forgot on this one though haha. Not at all, thank you for the inspiration and tips in return! So happy you can enjoy the videos 💜

    WOW!!! Thank you for this! I really, really enjoy your videos, because unlike other crafters you show more than the process. The fact that you show, and tell us, how hard some of the parts were and the way your mind works, makes your videos much better than other crafters on UA-cam. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the heck out of Studson's videos but it's just fun to see your mindprocess while going through the build. So all this rambling to say Thank you I love your videos!

      Once you do a few projects with papier mache, it becomes quite an easy method for many things in my opinion (especially if you're doing it over a base). But hey, different methods work for different people, the fun thing about crafting is that there are so many different ways to make something! Ahh well that is all so very kind, thank you as always! There are just so many incredibly kind and talented people in the community, I feel lucky to be a small part of it. Also damn you put so much effort into your projects! Like legit, I've seen crafters with ten times the budget put in half the effort of these builds--the editing, the shots, the commentary, all are top-notch and really show that effort matters so much more than money.
    That said, wish I could give more on patreon! D: Money's tight, but I'll throw what I can at artists who really put in the work. Hope your holidays went well!

So if anything, I feel incredibly lucky to be able to make stuff like this.

      I'm not familiar with all of those, but from what I can tell (looking some of them up haha), those are all super cool choices! You've reminded me that I've been meaning to watch Good Omens forever, I gotta do that!
