I have been on the lookout for one a long time, finally found one I could afford. Did I need her, no. Did I want her, YES. I'm in the process of bringing her back to her glory. I can't wait to make my first quilt on her! Awesome video, ty! 💖

About 3 years ago, I ran across an excellent featherweight in working order, wiring looked great, at a thrift store for $75. I certainly didn't need one, didn't particularly want one and knew I could buy it and turn a quick $300 to $400 profit.
I left it there for one of you! Some one hopefully got a great deal on a new to them baby.

I went through my grandma's 1947 Singer 15-91, new wiring, grease zerts in the motor, the whole 9 yards. I also refinished the vintage cabinet that it's in. I just finished piecing my first queen size quilt on it. I couldn't be happier with the result. I don't have a 221 or 222 but I have no place to take it to classes or anything so I don't know if I'll ever catch that bug or not. They are adorable!

I recently resurrected my 222k from the attic bought for me age 13 in the fifties. I kept it as the trade in price was derisory and my mother had struggled to pay for it. All in beautifully clean condition, box included. Got the timing sorted and currently trying to get the foot control rewired to modern safety standards so that my only heirloom can be handed down in almost perfect order in spite of it having had a busy life. Just bought a computerised machine, but am dying to use my 222k again after all those years, just for old time’s sake. UK resident here.

I picked up a Singer 128-23 with the black crinkle finish. It needs a good oiling and clean, plus a power cord and back plate. Came with about 5 bobbins and some feet. I'm so looking forward to running some thread through her.

I had a circa 1914 Singer treadle sewing machine that was my mother's. Sadly I lost it and everything in Hurricane Katrina. Your Singer is a doll. Love it.

I couldn't be happier with my Singer Featherweight. You gave a great tutorial on maintaining it. The Featherweight Shop is a great source for Featherweights, not only for parts but for history, and demonstrations.
Like you I take it to quilting retreats ( it's so much lighter and compact than my regular machine) for a year now and I find more and more women bringing the Featherweight machines instead of their regular computerized machines.

Hi, Nice little one! I have 2 featherweights machines.
I was thinking of cleaning and lubricate one.
I quilt now with a Pfaff sewing machine.
I stop collecting Singers. I don’t want to start again.
Thank you for sharing your cleaning tips.

My mother gave us sewing machines one year for Christmas in 1966. My sister got a white one. I chose one with a zig zag and regretted it for years. I’ve now bought two FWs on eBay. The first one was in poor condition but I just got a second one for a very good price that is a beauty. Finally have what I wish I had gotten 55 years ago. I now sew on a Bernini mostly but these are so beautiful. I’m in danger of becoming addicted.

I know.. I went to a sew group and took it to sew on it. It just was so much fun .. addictive for sure I’m bidding on another one which I’m .. trying to settle myself to be content .. but I really enjoyed seeing with it and how little she was.. I really am happy you got one you love.

Nice machines, did you grease the motor also? The same grease you put on the gears goes in the motor ports. You clean them out with a thin straw that should of came with your grease then fill with new grease. I love the featherweights also. The next vintage machine you might be interested in is the singer 201-2. It's all gear driven, and it's a workhorse with such a distinct sound it just hums. The paint is pretty beat up on the one I have but she sews great. I got it from a man, it was his grandma's, He used it for taxidermy talk about a stench, lol. The black screwdriver and the black foot is blackside from the war time. I don't have a blackside maybe but I have some blackside parts, feet, screwdrivers and bobbins. I believe they grabbed what ever was available when putting everything together for a set of tools. You might want to wipe down all the feet and bobbins and all the chrome parts you washed with soapy water with a tiny bit of sewing machine oil to prevent rust. Enjoy your featherweighs. I have 4 in my possession right now.

Oh Sweet Lorena! You just fell down the rabbit hole of machine-lust. LOL! I have several 221's and have completely cleaned and refurbished machines for others. All old Singer's stink. (Period. Full Stop.) I use Windex to clean the chrome parts because it dries completely. I keep a bottle and just pour it into a dish-- use a toothbrush, dry and polish. I'm not comfortable washing a lot of machine parts in water because I'm concerned about rust. I'll message you with some other FW experts who also give excellent assistance.

Just bought another one, but like the potato chips you can’t have just one.
I’ve got 2 featherweights and a 3rd vintage ( $50.00) Don’t know what it is but I’ll be cleaning it.
I hear the smell is from the glue they used on the cases.
