While the notes may be basic just like a plain cake, the addition of all those stylistic effects put the icing and decorations on that cake making it a deliciously tasty treat for all the senses. Attention paid to small things has big rewards. This is what separates an amateur from an artist. Thanks for offering a tasty treat. 🎷😎

As someone with a bit of vocal damage, I can hear that a lot of those elements probably come from her history of smoking. The breathy tone at quiet dynamics and percussive pops really stand out. Because damage (for better or worse) contributes to a lot of iconic singers’ sounds, I really like this idea of trying to emulate these types of things!

That's a very interesting subject and the examples you gave were spot on! Would you consider analyzing Norah Jones singing next? 😀

Hi I always enjoy your vids so much. As I've always suffered with back problems. I was wondering if you could cover neck support Straps for Alto Tenor and Soprano. I would really appreciate your input.

Any tips on improving my tone on high notes on soprano? I can go up to high F (and sometimes a few altissimo notes), but it's very hard to play them softly, and they sound quite shrill and annoying.

When she sings her accent(s) is a mix of black gospel/soul and Appalachia . That is a completely subjective opinion folks. I admit it now. Your analysis is really great.

I've always tried to mimic Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, and Luther Vandross, to name a few of my favorites. I love singers who think like instrumentalists and vice versa!

Adele is an excellent vocalist indeed. Imo, the most expressive singer of all time (who used all the techniques you outline) was the great Jimmy Scott.....unbelievable singer and a valuable reference for all musicians.

From a british perspective this is hilarious, "ie Adele has a chav speaking voice", but very insightful! A lot of uk celebs pretend to be more chav than they are for popularity reasons..

Adele is great, but the cover of Easy On Me by Angelina Jordan is more expressive and her Elvis Cover is phänomenal in the low register. The "mapping" to the human voice is super cool. Thanks.

This stuff should be obvious but it just shows how hard it is to really hear what a performer is doing. Gateaux, Monsieur, gateaux.

Listen to Grover Washington Jr. ,
David Sanborn. I’d rather hear their playing than Adele singing.
