i like it how you made this vid from bands i havnt heard of (mostly), even if people say your wrong for not having the major players in here its expanded my metal arsenal ! \\m//
When i saw wintersun there i breathed a sigh of relief. Absolutely, they definitely deserve a spot there, and that song is definitely a favorite here too.
I like the 10th favorite riff! And I absolutely second 2nd Gates Of ishtar "Trail Of Tears". It's the only song I enjoyed by them. And of course I'd like to hear top-best of typical melodic death metal riffs like those mentioned above. Maybe I'll make that vid someday :)
@Rak411 Yes! That riff is awesome. I think my favorite at the gates riff is blinded by fear though. But hey i can only fit so many, can't please everyone haha.
@galvinized8 Fair enough. I agree that they aren't groundbreaking, but they do have a pretty unique sound, and they have a certain epicness to their songs. Hopefully, their next album will have a tinge of progressiveness to it, if they're into that sort of thing.
So there is no Insomnium... and No Kalmah.... ummmmmmm.... two lords of Melodeath?? ... Mortal Share and Heroes To Us/The Groan of Wind should be number 1 and 2
@Mandalore863 Point taken, but i wasn't saying i considered them black metal; just that some people have been considering them part of such.. also listen to the guitar riffs a little more, it does sound similar to some black metal i've heard as of late O.o I think, if people came to this song before any other wintersun/godly song on the album, they may think the same.
@galvinized8 I don't know other to say you are tone death for their music. I like it cause its awesome guitar and riffs and longness. To me their music makes me have an eargasm
@galvinized8 ohh so sorry for using the wrong term. I just meant that they know how to play their instruments well. And to say they are a rehash of At the Gates and old In Flames is just silly.
@TheMightyWet Thanks. I know Vital Remains are DEFINITELY not a melodic death metal band, but the riff itself is a melodic one. If they played riffs like that all the time they would be a melodic death metal band. I really doing melodic riffs by any type of death metal band.
@thevillageyid well no band sounds exactly like any other band but bands that could be compared are: Norther, Children of Bodom, Ensiferum, Dark Tranquillity, Catamenia, Amon Amarth, among others. I'm just saying people talk about them like they are this groundbreaking band when they really aren't. All those bands I listed were formed before Kalmah. What I'm saying is Kalmah was not/is not a trend setter, they are a really REALLY good follower.
@lenwe94 no children of bodom because I dont like any of their riffs enough to put on here. Dont get me wrong i like them, but none of their riffs came to mind when i made this video. I am aware Vital Remains is a death metal band, but the riff i chose is melodic. A melodic riff from a death metal band makes the riff melodic death metal.
@galvinized8 haha yes, i understand you, i think i have explained wrong, i only wanted to say that wintersun is amazing, not that you have to use a lot of more riffs from wintersun in this video. forgive my explanation :)
@thevillageyid I would, however, admit that Godeye is one of my favorite melodic death metal songs EVER. To summarize, I would describe Kalmah as a riff machine that produces great music, but not doing anything different. They deserve a spot on any list of melodeath but I am just so surprised about how many people complain that Kalmah is not on here.
@Blashyrkh22 Ya I would say pre-esoteric skyfire is a really good comparison. Esoteric is its own brand kind of slower melodeath more like omnium gatherum or eternal tears of sorrow.
@TheKronos37 Ya they are a pioneer of the genre. I just thought it would be too easy to pick them haha. All their riffs are great I couldn't choose one.
@thevillageyid Kalmah can shred? Clearly you aren't all that familiar with the term shred. (see Wintesun and Obscura) Solos are mostly pentatonic stuff and nothing all that flashy. Again, they write great riffs and I probably would have used the Godeye chorus riff or the bridge riff in One of Fail but 12 Gauge had not come out yet when I made this video. I have nothing against Kalmah, but like a lot of other melo death bands, they are just rehash of At the Gates and old In Flames.
@galvinized8 The first two Desultory albums are essential Melodic Death Metal albums, even though Bitterness contained some doomy songs. It wasn't until the third album that all went to shit. They're back supposedly recording a new album
@cohone86 Wish I could have used all the Winterun riffs but that would have made a boring video hahaha. They are my favorite band. I understood your explanation btw, and didn't mean to sound like an ass.
@JobForATurtle Because I didn't put them in. It is MY favorite riffs. Just because i didn't put them in doesn't mean that I have never heard of them or think they are great.
@potatoebrainedbarito To be honest, I wouldn't feel all that comfortable uploading full songs. Also, it might be hard to find the edge of sanity songs because that album is split up into 40 something tracks with all minute or less songs that kind of flow into each other.
@galvinized8 1:22... they sitting there saying hail lucifer. I only heard 10 seconds of that part before I got off, though. So somewhat of a blind perception. But, just the way it sounded made me think they were satanic.
@mcg413 Read the title of this video and then look at your comment and if you still don't understand why it is a stupid comment then I will gladly explain it to you.
@cohone86 Well I couldn't really use all of them could I? Haha. I'm sure there are riffs that i like better than some of the ones on here but i didnt want to use two from one band
come on theres only so much i can fit into a video of 10 riffs. There are other bands that I could have easily put on the list, but they are MY favorites.
@galvinized8 You need other melodic death metal influences to actually know what you're doing, or at least have the New Wave of British Heavy Metal influences. At the Gates, In Flames, and Dark Tranquillity were some of the first, and they got influences from at least Iron Maiden, Diamond Head, and Saxon.
Are you looking for it online? Or the CD? because its not a common CD. Its goes for pretty good money on amazon and sites like that. I don't know where to find it online though. You might be able to download it on itunes for a dollar or whatever. Sorry i couldn't be more help haha.
@thevillageyid My point was to say that they aren't doing anything new. They are very good at what they do and are a great band that I like very much but they aren't what I would call unique by any means.
Melodeath has some beautiful and inspiring riffs
i like it how you made this vid from bands i havnt heard of (mostly), even if people say your wrong for not having the major players in here its expanded my metal arsenal ! \\m//
Awesome list! Am happy to see you included Gyroscope, that's one of my personal favourite melo death riffs too \m/
In flames for the fucking win.
Great to see love for Noumena. Incredibly under rated band, and the whole 'absence' album is just full of ridiculously melodic riffs.
When i saw wintersun there i breathed a sigh of relief.
Absolutely, they definitely deserve a spot there, and that song is definitely a favorite here too.
nice! not too many people have heard in thy dreams, props. i freakin love that band. RIP
GYROSCOPE!!!
dude im liking alot of these bands thanks bra
vital remains melodic passages are really sick! Nice list, woulld be good some desultory, at the gates, canorous quintet, unanimated too
This list is amazing and i think i just found a few new bands. Cheers!
I loved this :D
Good list. Gyroscope's riff is perfect. Extra points for throwing Wintersun in.
Got my copy a few days ago, great stuff :D Hope Time II comes out and is not delayed now :)
I like the 10th favorite riff! And I absolutely second 2nd Gates Of ishtar "Trail Of Tears". It's the only song I enjoyed by them.
And of course I'd like to hear top-best of typical melodic death metal riffs like those mentioned above. Maybe I'll make that vid someday :)
dissection have so many awesome riffs..
Gyroscope is legendary. Great choices!
Edge of Sanity - Crimson and Crimson II
Two of the best albums ever made
My thoughts exactly.
So there is no Insomnium... and No Kalmah.... ummmmmmm.... two lords of Melodeath?? ... Mortal Share and Heroes To Us/The Groan of Wind should be number 1 and 2
agree and also no children of bodom
Kissing the Shadows COB. Speed + melodic.
Agreed and also Be'lakor is missing
In Flames!
@Moufisto I forgot to add:
Wintersun is also considered Black Metal by some!
Melodic black metal, i guess. But yeah, So that's something to note.
I listen to the song 'self vs. self' by pendulum just because it features In Flames.. such awesome guitar work
@Mandalore863 Point taken, but i wasn't saying i considered them black metal; just that some people have been considering them part of such.. also listen to the guitar riffs a little more, it does sound similar to some black metal i've heard as of late O.o
I think, if people came to this song before any other wintersun/godly song on the album, they may think the same.
@Erecson1523 ohhh haha ya it says weeping twilight by in thy dreams sometimes too.
For Wintersun you should've put that amazing rhythm riff in Battle Against Time, it's very technical, and just heavy.
Noumena :)
All their riffs are rememberable
@galvinized8 I don't know other to say you are tone death for their music. I like it cause its awesome guitar and riffs and longness. To me their music makes me have an eargasm
@galvinized8 ohh so sorry for using the wrong term. I just meant that they know how to play their instruments well. And to say they are a rehash of At the Gates and old In Flames is just silly.
Edge Of Sanity - Incantation VI and Gyroscope were beautiful
Fuck yeah Vital Remains at its rightful place as number one
@galvinized8 lol the master of metal :P
@TheMightyWet Thanks. I know Vital Remains are DEFINITELY not a melodic death metal band, but the riff itself is a melodic one. If they played riffs like that all the time they would be a melodic death metal band. I really doing melodic riffs by any type of death metal band.
@thevillageyid well no band sounds exactly like any other band but bands that could be compared are: Norther, Children of Bodom, Ensiferum, Dark Tranquillity, Catamenia, Amon Amarth, among others. @galvinized8 haha yes, i understand you, i think i have explained wrong, i only wanted to say that wintersun is amazing, not that you have to use a lot of more riffs from wintersun in this video. forgive my explanation :)
this is awsome dude you have awsomelikes just maybe a little children of bodom would be nice you know maybe neddles 24/7 or toewards dead end
@galvinized8
Yeah that sounds fair. I'm not really into the subgenre, except for bands like Amon Amarth, and Children of Bodm.
@thevillageyid I would, however, admit that Godeye is one of my favorite melodic death metal songs EVER. To summarize, I would describe Kalmah as a riff machine that produces great music, but not doing anything different. They deserve a spot on any list of melodeath but I am just so surprised about how many people complain that Kalmah is not on here.
fuck yes, i was waiting to see gyroscope
@galvinized8 oh cool! :) bloodbath has some awesome melodic riffs also, you should give em a listen if you havent already
All wintersun riffs are amazing, not only in Beautiful Death x)
where is COB :(?
@InVerum well these days also Falling from Norther should be there... But I agree with kalmah and insomnium for sure:)
Ohhh ya haha I just always liked the jester race cover. Mostly because of the old logo.
@lambishh you are hella right man kalmah #1 on my list
Awesome vid, but wintersun is actually #1 with all their songs ^^
Edge Of Sanity
IN FLAMES!
@deosyx6 i made this before their new album or else the first riff in godeye might be on here
@Pagnah thanks.
@thevillageyid Kalmah can shred? Clearly you aren't all that familiar with the term shred. (see Wintesun and Obscura) Solos are mostly pentatonic stuff and nothing all that flashy. Well.....I'm fucking glad I'm not the only one to know about in thy dreams....btw I think this is their best song too
@galvinized8 The first two Desultory albums are essential Melodic Death Metal albums, even though Bitterness contained some doomy songs. It wasn't until the third album that all went to shit. They're back supposedly recording a new album
crimson II ftw
and the first crimson too while we're on the subject
wtf? no amon amarth or children of bodom?
@rock2metal666 idk to be honest i kind of feel weird posting full songs. I don't have any tabs for it either, sorry i couldn't be of help.
In flames \m/
haha wro ng album for gyroscope bro but a pretty awesome vid besides that :)
@Vamp1ro101 Dragonland- Supernova. It's power metal just as a heads up. Just though it would be a cool intro song.
good list , but at the gates and death should be on every list ! jk I know it s your personal opoinion
@trampsterD I would say so although not a traditional one haha.
Check out "To Live, Not Remain" by Anterior. Killer riff :)
@DFizfiq Thanks!
ya someone else noticed that but I really didn't even mean to try and match the covers I just like the jester race cover better haha
cool vid. but i'm surprised the king of Melodeath instrumental a.k.a Kalmah isnt included
yeah I know, but I dont care if it is, as long as its extreme metal( black, death, folk, doom etc..) I like it all. Even better when its mixed.
Old In Flames ftw! >:D
you should do a compilation video of Dan Swano's works !!
@potatoebrainedbarito To be honest, I wouldn't feel all that comfortable uploading full songs. Also, it might be hard to find the edge of sanity songs because that album is split up into 40 something tracks with all minute or less songs that kind of flow into each other.
@BrutalRussianBear Idk there are only ten riffs here none of Kalmah's came to mind when I made it. I love Kalmah though.
look for INSOMNIUM . in each song they have amazing riff . i love that band just because of those riffs \m/
@galvinized8 1:22... they sitting there saying hail lucifer. I only heard 10 seconds of that part before I got off, though. So somewhat of a blind perception. But, just the way it sounded made me think they were satanic.
Not even one Dahlia murder comment?
i consider them being created from bands like at the gates and death and they wear melo death like the made it
@mcg413 Read the title of this video and then look at your comment and if you still don't understand why it is a stupid comment then I will gladly explain it to you.
@cohone86 Well I couldn't really use all of them could I? Haha. I'm sure there are riffs that i like better than some of the ones on here but i didnt want to use two from one band
DRAGONLAND!!!
Dude Next Video. Put in : Pendulum by Fallen Fate. Best Riff ive ever heard. LISTEN TO THEM! THEY NEED SUPPORT!!!!
come on theres only so much i can fit into a video of 10 riffs. There are other bands that I could have easily put on the list, but they are MY favorites.
ok, good night man
I guess if he does another top 10 riffs, they will all be from Wintersun's time album :P
gates of ishtar's riff in trail of tears is fuckin great
@KukuRukuVaflaFkusna read the description
WINTERSUN!!!!!
Edge of Sanity!!!!!!!!!!!
Dissection!!!!!!
¿Supernova? En un vídeo de Death Metal Melodico... interesante.
@insidethefall78 this is true haha I heard the new song on their myspace and it sounds pretty cool. Nothing ground breaking, but decent.
incassum-History Repeats
very good sound
Are you looking for it online? Or the CD? because its not a common CD. Its goes for pretty good money on amazon and sites like that. I don't know where to find it online though. You might be able to download it on itunes for a dollar or whatever. Sorry i couldn't be more help haha.

@TheMightyWet ya i love bloodbath. Peter Tagtgren and Mikael Akerfeldt did vocals how can you go wrong? haha
hate it when people comment telling you what u should have on ur list when its ur list and ur opinions. why dont they jus go make their own list
