I think the last episode when Thorpe's lawyer ask him why he had carried on with the relationship with Norman Scott for years and its revealed that Thorpe had other dalliances with men that often turned violent... that bit humanized him for me and brilliantly played by Grant with a nuanced performance.
Sandra Naylor Acting wise it's the best thing he's ever done. He's way better than those romcoms and hopefully he'll now get rewarded with more serious roles. It changed my opinion of him as an actor completely.
Always had Hugh Grant down as a sort of stammering, poor man's John Alderton. But he was tremendous in this. Nailed it as Jeremy Thorpe, bravura performance.
In every production he's done he keeps blinking which makes him look awkward but in A Very English Scandal he actually has stopped blinking and it makes the character much more convincing and the acting is so much better.
Pamela Macklin Don't get too excited,it's an old, long forgotten storyline. The acting is all very two dimensional and any plot or suspense non existent.
Bartholomew Horatio Brunel I don’t think he withheld evidence so much as told Thorpe that he would be destroyed in the witness box as like Oscar Wilde, he would not have been able to resist showing off.
I learned from Wiki that the Thorpes were Irish all the way back. With hat tilted at a jaunty angle and swarthy complexion, JT even looked like an Irish horse trader. Genetics, huh?
I disagree. He isn't attractive as Thorpe because he isn't being Hugh Grant. The hair is different, his whole being is different. Thorpe has a very "reptilian" quality to him which isn't very charming.
Superb performance from Hugh, & all the cast. Loved every minute!
The physical transformation of Grant to Thorpe was remarkable.
An absolutely brilliant performance from Hugh Grant.

Terrific programme. Hugh Grant turns in the best performance of his career. It’s a revelation!
Hugh and Ben are Fab in this and Russell Davis is such a great writer ❤
he was absolutely magnificent in this, i watched all 3 episodes through and it flew by. And i will watch it again.
It's the best thing he has done in years

If only every British man was as suave and sophisticated as Hugh
@Henry Black Fun fact: many men does this, he just got caught

He is brilliant!
I'm in the States and I watched the first episode. It's on some streaming websites online if you look around.

It an excellent story and very intriguing xx
why can't Hugh Grant be Mr Money penny. ....He would be such an asset for the next installment:)
Very good actor
As Private Eye said at the time, spoofing Mr Justice Cantley “Go now and consider your verdict of “Not Guilty”!

LOL, from a distance, without my glasses on, and volume off, I thought this was Nigel Farage!!
Oh, there *are* many secrets ppl are ashamed of
He was great as this villian
I want to be on a movie with you Hugh Grant.
Why's his collar all ragged?
nice to be happily wrong over hugh!😄
At last Hugh has matured from playing gauche, floppy-haired public schoolboys.
Why cant we see this in Canada?
Danmed Canadian censorship....grrrr
SPOILER ALERT
You can really see how much Hugh's blue eyes contribute to his charm and persona. With these contact lenses he is not attractive at all.

Hugh Grant basically played a slightly exaggerated version of himself.Mannerisms, background, education, politics. He seems to have the irony completely.
Look what a bit of botox can do! XD
Eh? Doesn't look like it to me
