Savesyourkisses4me, thanks for clearing it up that Ricky Wolff was exactly the lead singer of this single, My Baby Loves Lovin'. I made my previous comment hours ago in response to that person called Ditzygypsy Jay, who accused those saying Ricky Wolff was the lead singer of fooling people and "peddling the falsehood". I hope Ditzygypsy Jay could take a look at what you have written. Thanks again. Much appreciated.

I've listened to My baby loves lovin over and over again. Tony Burrows' voice DIDN'T sound like the main voice of My baby loves lovin'. Listen to Love Grows. Tony Burrows' voice didn't even come close to the original studio recording of My baby loves lovin. And he was singing backup vocals instead of lead vocals on TOTP together with others. Very obviously he wasn't the lead singer of this single.

It was Ricky Wolff. See below.
Re: Tony Burrows and White Plains.
Let's help clear up this answer was Tony Burrows in White Plains?
The answer is Yes and No!
Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway had just finished writing and producing The Flowerpot Men last single "In A Moment Of Madness" in 1969 on Deram. Before you knew it the Roger's composed a new song "My Baby Loves Lovin'" in late 1969 and was quickly released on 2nd Jan 1970 again on Deram by White Plains that was formed from the split of The Flowerpot Men. For the studio recordings was a mix of artists involvement with Ricky Wolff on lead of their first release "My Baby Loves Lovin'" and also consisting of Cook, Greenaway and Burrows. For a one off first Top of The Pops performance it was Roger Greenaways vocal that can be heard. However when it came to touring on the road and future TV work the group consisted of Ricky Wolff, Peter Nelson, Robin Box, Robin Shaw, Roger Hills and a hand now and then from Brian Johnston. So the answer to the question is yes and no Tony Burrows involvement with White Plains. The result of all the singers and producers around the releases over the years made the fabulous group we've learnt to admire WHITE PLAINS.
To confuse you more over the last 20 years on various White Plains reunions Tony Burrows has been called up to supply lead vocals. Here's one of those occasions from 2005. m.ua-cam.com/video/4lkXMCFiQC0/v-deo.html

@@saveyourkisses4me - There's not a both yes and no answer. Only the studio version matters as that is what counts when it comes to applying credit for lead vocals. So the answer is Ricky Wolff. Period.

This is Cassandra Lewis-Jesse's wife. Being that I'm somewhat into astrology. And recognizing Tony Burrows to be an Aries born the year of the Goat. Alot of Aries are really good at music (and he is). And people born the year of the Goat are known to be capricious, and always after greener pastures. And they always have a tendency to make it to the right door. This makes it typical that he would have 5 1 hit wonders. And I've loved Tony's talent since I was a little girl!

"While dating, "My Baby Loves Lovin" was my first wife and my "our song" way back in 1970. We married in '71, divorced in '82 and had a daughter in between. Upon her graduation from college in 1997, we had a family get together to celebrate at Dick Clark's American Bandstand Grill. As you might expect at a Dick Clark establishment, oldies were playing nonstop. And sure enough, "My Baby Loves Lovin" came up. I've wondered over the years what thoughts went through her mind that day as "our song" played at our daughters party.

Ricky Wolff was the actual lead singer on the studio version of My Baby Loves Lovin. It has been long-standing misinformation that Tony Burrows was the lead singer on this song. Sorry he wasn't. He was one of the backup singers.

    • @ditzygypsy
      @ditzygypsy 2 роки тому

Not the same voice. Ricky did sing it live and there is a video of it, but it’s not even in the same key, and he pronounces his words differently. Not to mention the nice little rasp he has and that his voice is deeper. Not lower, but deeper. He sings more from the bottom than from an upper area like Tony does. Tony’s voice is so recognizable that I knew nothing about the common thread in My Baby Loves Lovin’, Rosemary, and Beach Baby (where he is actually mimicking Brian Wilson), and yet I figured out they HAD to be the same singer, only to discover that I was correct. I do wish that people would use their ears. 🙄

I have seen some comments on the My Baby Loves Lovin’ clips saying that Ricky Wolff actually sang My Baby Loves Lovin’. There is a live (not lip-synced) video on UA-cam of Ricky actually singing. The song is in a different key, and his singing is nice, and a bit similar, but it is not the same voice as the single. He has a deeper (not lower; deeper) voice, a bit of a rasp (it’s nice, but it’s different), and his pronunciation is different (to me, it’s WILDLY different), and the different pronunciation is especially noticeable in the second verse. The single is definitely Tony Burrows. I wish they’d stop peddling that falsehood. The key difference may have been a result of deciding to speed up the tape a bit to tighten up the sound (this is done sometimes), but it is still obvious that it is Tony. As someone who has been an unseen session singer since I was 14…I’m 56 now yikes…I am pretty sure that story was told because it’s hard to find a live version of seeing Tony sing it LIVE (again, not a lip synced version), and this one of Ricky does readily exist, so they probably didn’t want to be found out as a kind of Milli Vanilli before that scorching event even occurred, and they just said that it was always Ricky singing the song. It’s not the same voice. Just stop. Not everyone is so easily fooled.

I've read that Tony didn't want to tour. And in one interview here, he claimed that he never recorded these to be the final versions, just as demos as favors to the songwriters who would later come back and say they couldn't find another artist who could do the song better and asked if they could release his demo vocals. But then again, Tony's recollections can be a bit exaggerated or at least muddled. Like in this video where he claims he was in three acts on one TOTP. As the video itself shows, the host said it was only two acts, and TOTP records showed he was never on three times in one week, although he was on twice in four different broadcasts. Still a good record that nobody else matched.

@@amightysailingman I have seen an interview Tony Burrows claimed after he appeared on one Top of the Pops show three times with 3 different groups, the BBC was pissed and he got banned from BBC and TOTP for years ever since. But I read somewhere that he DID appear again on TOTP with the Pipkins a few months later. And he still got interviewed by BBC during the period that he claimed he was banned by BBC. Then technically it is hardly called a ban. Did he forget or exaggerate that issue? Because in the interview, when asked about he never got a hit as a solo singer, he put the blame on BBC for his solo singles failure on the charts as he claimed BBC banned him and as a result his solo singles didn't get played on the BBC radio airwave. Do you know about this?

Some of the bands did have more than one hit. Tony was in the bands when they had a hit but that doesn't mean they don't have other hits. Like Brotherhood of Men, they had a smash hit "Save your Kisses for Me" with a new line-up. White Plains has 4 UK top 20 hits.

@@amightysailingman Interesting, thanks for sharing. Seen an article titled "Tony Burrows - The Greatest Singer Whose Name You've Never Heard" written by Jay S. Jacobs. In the interview, Tony said ---- "I did the original demo of "Home Lovin' Man" for Roger Greenaway and Tony MacCauley, who wrote the song. The recording company decided that it wasn't commercial enough for me as a solo single. So Roger took it to America and Andy Williams recorded it and had a monster hit. That I regret. He (Andy Williams) actually covered it note for note."---- As a matter of a fact, Tony's demo version can be found on Edison Lighthouse album and B side to his 1972 solo single "Rhythm of the Rain". Tony said it's him originally sing the demo and Andy Williams actually covered it note for note and score a monster hit that makes Tony regret, I'm curious and heard both versions of the song seperately sung by Tony and Andy Williams.

More like 999 voices. One of those voices belongs to Ricky Wolff. Wish Tony would come clean.

I don’t believe that. Just listen properly to Ricky singing live. Different tone. Different texture. Different pronunciation. Different KEY. The single is definitely Tony. That’s why there is no “coming clean”. That one live video caused them to try to cover their butts. But it actually just makes the whole silly story entirely unbelievable. Ears. Ears are helpful. Use them please.

@@ditzygypsyI doubt if you got the proper White Plains original version. There are many versions of My Baby Loves Lovin' which has been covered by many groups and artists over the years. Even White Plains has remastered versions of this song. Could you please tell me which version you listened all the time?
