- Financial costs, regulatory requirements and the fear of being held liable for various rates and taxes have been identified as some of the hinderances of Spaza shops complying with registration requirements. Speaking in Johannesburg, Gauteng MEC for Finance and Economic Development Lebogang Maile says some avoid registering as they see the registration as an extra burden aimed at making them pay more taxes. Maile says since the extension of the registration deadline to the 28th of February, thousands have continued to register, while inspections have also continued with some being shut for non-compliance with regulations. For some reaction we are now joined in studio by the CEO of the National Black Business Caucus Volchere Kgekwane.
