I really dig Alamos - me and my girlfriend get it all the time. Usually we drink Cabernets or Indian Pale Ale beers (we live in San Diego, the beer mecca). I find Malbecs to be another good alternative to Cabs or IPAs.

Now, my .02 centsworth on the topic of "Over-oaking".... The world is split into two chemo-centric groups - 1) the acid centrics and 2) the alkaline centrics. Group 1 loves high tannins and that tarter-like feel certain wines lay on the tongue. Group 2, yes, loves the vanilla smoothing effect that oaking provides. 1's love anything tart, crisp and fresh. 2's love round, smooth and vanilla/creamy. Neither is right, neither is wrong-just simple chemistry . . .
I will always remember the first Malbec I tasted, and hated! As palate evolved, learned that I drank a crappy bottle, very solid varietal

I regularly buy wines in the 9 to 15 dollar range and probably 70+% of them are wayyyy over oaked. And oftentimes it completely ruins it.
Do you have the whole series of Thundercats cartoons..I love the first episode when Tundra explodes...and they had to find a new home..

I just got a bottle of that Alamos last night. First time I have seen him review a wine I have. Different year obviously. I am new to the wine world, so I am just buying blind at this point trying to see which grape variety I like. Riesling is the sh*t at this point.

Dr. K try the gm gascon reserva, 10$ more than the regular - absolutely amazing. I had a glass at a wine bar then bought a bottle that night. So good. But I'm sure the original is nice as well.

Are you kidding me?! Susana Balbo is Far Far Far from being the premier winemaker in all of Argentina. Her wines are the quintessential definition of mediocrity. Don't let aggressive marketing fool you.
