Bought lily 1481 at HRO & LOVE IT
Great price! Just bought the step brother FT-65, and a really good solid little radio.
Yeah, the price combined with all the features makes it a great little radio. Thanks for commenting!
just got mine today from Amazon.
Apparently, you worked with my wife at CarMax, Laura Moody. Just passed the technician and Laura is studying for hers. How's the Tram holding up? Did you seal it with some self amalgamating tape? How is the elevation/declination working in this area? This antenna is similar to the Comet GP-9 which they warn has a narrow elevation angle.
Yes, I did work with your wife. Please let her know I said hello. Congratulations on passing your Tech exam! My Team has worked extremely well since the day I purchased it. I did not seal it and I have not found any water inside. It’s been through several storms with no issues. I live in NC now so I’m in an area that is very flat so elevation/declination aren’t big issues for me. My antenna is currently down because I’m testing some other equipment but I can tell you it was up at about 25 feet and I was able to reach out and hit repeaters around 95 miles away fairly easily using 20 watts of power. The cons are that I’ve heard the Tram is not always water tight. I do recommend sealing them now since it seems they might be having some QC issues in that area. Overall I recommend both models the 1480 and the 1481.
I bought that antenna and after one month the swr went to crap. Took off the pl-259 and water came out. Am going to try to silicone the joints this spring but the eham reviews were correct about the water issues.
Thanks for sharing that info with us Mike!

So my follow up on the tram 1481.
Took the antenna down siliconed all connections was working beautifully until a rain/wind storm and poof. Back to horrible swr. I took it down and ordered a new antenna. Maybe I got a defect but I would not recommend buying this antenna. I was also drawn in by the dB gain and cost but you know what they say you get what you pay for. Hope no one else with this antenna is having this issue.

@@mcorreia147mc Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. I am having a different experience and so far I haven't experienced any issues. I have a feeling they may have some quality control issues regarding weatherproofing.
Will this antenna work on the 150 frequencies?
I
Mine is tuned for 433. I wish to target 449 MHz. Anyone ever tried to trim to raise the UHF Freq sweet spot? I don’t use it for VHF at all. I assume trimming at the center?

Did you need a ground for this antenna? I have thought about this antenna after I save my pennies.
You do not need any additional grounding for this antenna.
What’s the SWR like around 467 mhz for GMRS reasons???
MacintoshWizard I got a 1:1.1 at 467. It’s running on a 100 ft piece of coax.
Thanks!
Colby Higgs you are the winner! Please contact me at cqthenewham@gmail.com so I can get your information for shipping. Congratulations!
Very poor quality with little weatherization. Spend a little extra for a decent antenna. Tram does have some decent antennas, but this isn't one of them.
I hear this a lot but I have yet to have any problems with weather. Not that I'm doubting the reports but I am wondering how their QC has changed since I purchased mine.
