  • Every year, Sikhs come together to celebrate Vaisakhi, but what is Vaisakhi? Why is it such an essential part of Sikhi (Sikhism)?
During the month of Vaisakh (mid-April to mid-May), Guru Gobind Singh Ji (the tenth Sikh Guru) summoned Sikhs far and wide to the city of Anandpur Sahib, India.
Once the Sikhs gathered, Guru Ji presented Themselves on a platform. In a test of faith, Guru Ji raised their sword and asked who was willing to give their head! In time, five Sikhs stood, and each presented themselves to the Guru, offering themselves as a sacrifice. In turn, Guru Gobind Singh Ji blessed them with Amrit (ambrosial nectar) and initiated them into the Khalsa. These five were hereafter known as the Panj Pyare (the Five Beloved Ones).
Since this day in 1699, millions of Sikhs worldwide have been blessed with Amrit, becoming initiated into the Khalsa (Army of the Immaculate), adhering to stand up against injustice and provide the basic needs to people from all walks of life.
To learn more about what led Guru Gobind Singh Ji to forming the Khalsa and how a Khalsa lives, watch the videos in this Vaisakhi playlist: bit.ly/3s7ViRP
From everyone at Everythings13, we'd like to wish everyone a Happy Vaisakhi!

Thank you. This is the most wonderful explanation I have come across. In preparation for Vasakhi this year, I was searching through videos to share with my kids. I thank you for capturing the beauty of Khalsa in your explanation. Many times, I believe, one may forget the purity and misinterpret the purpose of Khalsa by the way of ones own ego's. I am so very excited that the future of sikh vachar is in hearts and hands of such capable and humble beings such as yourself. Vachar like this will only cultivate more love in the world. Thank you.

My Muslim brother you already are a Sikh. It means students of life / Gods’ slave society . All religions are branches of Guru Granth Sahib ji who are the Khudha/ Lord / Paarbrahman Himself, although They are different and distinct, primo in Their perfect perfection. By God’s Grace they see, hear everything and are ones doing everything. Guru Granth Sahib even talk and give their feet out to cut the duality of bonds of bad in life. Know who 4 bhai mardana Jis are who live in sachkhand with Khudha / Paarbrahman and realize Khalsa Gods’ . They’re just like prophet Mohammad, Husayn Ali, Jesus Christ, Hanumaan, Arjuna etc

A creation has a beginning and an end, but Khalsa is forever eternal, omnipresent, so we need to understand that Khalsa has no birth, but rather an awareness brought forth by the Gurus. As we are reminded by Guru Granth Sahibji to always keep God (Akal Purakh) in our hearts and minds, so must we keep Khalsa. Vaisakhi was a celebration of a fruitful harvest, that's the reason Sri Guru Gobind Singhji introduced Khalsa to the world on Vaisakhi. Guruji was our spiritual master, to whom we owe our lives to for guiding us on the right path. Without Guru, we are like fish out of water.

They were not Sikhs ! They were ordinary people from five different Hindu castes - Sikhs are Hindus who came together to fight injustice! Why do the Sikh’s want to forget that??? The vision of the Guru was to create a Khalsa- a pure person who serves the world with the might of a warrior and spiritual intelligence of a Rishi - every human being can be a Khalsa if they strive towards it - unfortunately Sikhs see themselves as ‘different’ from others and look down on others- they wear turbans but have forgotten the Guru’s Vision.. The whole world belongs to the Khalsa then why create narrow minded ideas of Khalistan? The elder son of every intelligent Hindu family was made a ‘Sikh’ in order to add to a brave indomitable humanitarian force that can fight injustice against the weak and the women and that’s what a Khalsa should do even today!! I am a Punjabi - a Khalsa in my mind and heart - and in today’s global world-even a Muslim today who has the guts to speak up against atrocities is a true Khalsa! Forgive me if doesn’t sound right to you and send me your heart if we think alike.. I would really like to know!!

In Google definition - Harvest festival of Punjab Baisakhi, also called Vaisakhi, is known as the harvest festival of Punjab. It is celebrated by people across religions. Other than marking the season of harvest, Baisakhi also has religious significance for the Sikhs. Baisakhi marks the beginning of the Sikh New Year. Basics of Sikhi please reach out to Google and correct this. Thank you 🙏🏼
