I've got neither (axial weirdooo), but from Kev's vids the 8s Kraton just looks sloooow. Bent braces and plates do it no favours, although I actually prefer the way it looks, which seems lower and sleeker and suggests better handling at speed. Ultimately though, looks like you'll have to pay at least it's stock price again in upgrades to get the same performance and durability that the Xmaxx has out of the box.
Great comparison on the chassis parts cost. Staggered that in the UK the Kraton weighs in at....$371 more than the $899 it's selling for here. That's unreal! Gotta be a joke about 'dem arms somewhere in there. You've convinced me to get the Xmaxx. Broke a cup on my 4S maxx at the weekend.....huge cost to replace it.......$6 for a pair!!!! The comparison you did will help people make a decision way better than just filming them side by side on the bench. Gives me food for thought for future videos. One of your best comparison ones to date. Anyone else love the format?

I just bought a new XMAXX. I had the K8s on pre-order but I cancelled, The main reason I did not buy the Kraton 8s is because last time I placed a pre-order for the Arrma Typhon 3s it took Arrma 6 months or longer to even have parts available for the vehicle once I had it. And I was told the Arrma is on a promo price right now of $899 but will go up to $999 after the pre-orders are shipped.
X Maxx does it all in my opinion, and is still unrivalled. Built like a tank and actually worth the money despite the premium price tag. The Kraton 8s is just too expensive, it should be around the £800 mark. You could buy two premium Arrma Bashers and still have £100 in your pocket to spend for the price of the new Kraton.

I broke a cup on my 6S outcast 3 minutes into my last bash session with it. Landed relatively hard on a left or right (can't recall which) rear arm. Also bent the hinge pin and destroyed both hinge pin retainers. First one in the year and 4 months I've had it. My biggest issue with the 6S line of arrma's are the diff ring/pinion. I HAVE FUN DRIVING ALL OF MY RC'S. BUT THE XMAXX TAKES THE FUN LEVEL OVER THE TOP FOR ME. SORRY FOR THE LONG SPEECH. TRIPLE T RC. (TTT).
Tbh I still say the xmaxx is the king because of the durability of it. I like that arrma is at least getting Traxxas to do more with their rc’s. But I still say the xmaxx is best
I’m was a traxxas guy having the hoss vxl and the slash 4x4, then got an arrma felony 6s and liked the build. Was going to look at an outcast but now I’m looking at the Xmaxx
I have already owned the xmaxx but definitely gonna buy the arrma Kraton 8s. Does come with a 2 yr warranty but I will buy a mc2 chassis as the first upgrade. Then slap a 23t pinion and ready for business
I’ve had two brands of RC cars with metal chassis and have bent both brands. I’ve also had RC cars with plastic chassis and have never broken any, up until recently. But I was sending that RC like no tomorrow, and was landing on concrete. IMO I feel like the best option, is a plastic chassis with a metal bash bar. If the plastic chassis some how finds a way to crack, the bash bar will still hold it together enough to finish your lipos. It’s not even about brand anymore. It’s about getting the best bang for your buck. I’ve seen 3S / 4S cars out perform 6S / 8S cars. And I’ve also seen no name off brand cars out perform all of the above. Not everyone is bashing the same RC the same way. So it really boils down to your experience as a driver, and what your style of bashing is.
You just have to put the same center diff oil in the Arrma as the Traxxas and it will wheelie and be just as crazy as the Xmaxx 👍 I got a Kraton 6s as my first truck and LOVE it!
👌😁👌 Yep totally different trucks, I think the plastic chassis is better maybe unless they made a aluminum one like 3 times as thick as what all these RTR RC's come with out of the box it would be good in aluminum.
Xmaxx is worth it guys!! I love mine. I bought a slightly used X-Maxx 8S, and it’s so reliable! Servo already upgraded to a 2085X, Spool in the rear diff “Locked rear axle” and I have beadlock belted badlands. The truck is just a beast! My stock shocks are pretty smooth right how they are. One thing I do want is the Pro-line shock shafts and pro-line delrin cartridges.
Good video Kev. Feels like you put a lot into making this as unbiased as possible. Pretty fair and straightforward comparison in my opinion, although I'm sure everyone wont see it that way lol
Man your energy is awesome ! I just got into these cars and it’s been so useful to watch your vids I’ve learned so much ! Thanks man for making it soo fun🤘🏽
And you're just lucky enough to be able to have both and I'm notad at that you earned it buddy keep up the videos I've been here watching since the beginning and I'm from South Philly PA USA peace brotha✌️
After running a few battery packs through the xmaxx 8s Kraton 8s and Outcast 8s I can definitely say that the xmaxx is more forgiving when it comes to bad landings. I jump my rigs 12-15 ft off my ramps into grass and dirt. I've broken a couple of wing mounts and two sets of bolts that hold the steering knuckle to the steering links on both 8s Arrma trucks. Also the Kraton is so much heavier than the O8S that it also bends the driveshafts easily like a banana on bad landings. I'm actually going to sell the K8S for that reason alone. The Outcast is staying to play with the xmaxx.
Ok I lost the fight... I'm not a fan boy of either brand, but parts are cheaper for the X-Maxx if you shop around.... Having 1/8th buggies and racing them..back in the day, I'm kinda over setting them up to handle like scalpels at 80kph... I'm 3 days into a 8s X-Maxx ownership and can VERY much see why this car is loved so much. Mind you I've only run it on 6s... still waiting for my twin 4s 6000mah 60c lipos. Man this thing even on stock gearing, running twin 3S 3700mah 35c Lipos out of my edf jets is a weapon!! Thank You Kev for beating the living hell out of your X-Maxx... You have a way of selling them hey!! Hahahaa This video alone should easily sell the X-Maxx... Just hope she's in production for many years to come!!!
Kev, get a 1/16 Slash. you've gotta see it. the motor is the Titan 12 turn 550 can size brushed (with Velineon 370 brushless option). also try the LaTrax Teton. you WILL break the servo though.
great video mate. I agree with your thoughts and feel the same way. I have also bought the k8 but its going to have a hard time de-throning the mightily xmaxx 8s i have had for a few years ;)
Your review was very fair and balanced. You took into consideration your 4 years of living with the X-Maxx when comparing the two cars. Well done! I think that if Arrma comes out with an 8s MT, to compete with the X-Maxx, they'll have to build it on plastic chassis.
I absolutely loved my xmaxx. The esc set on fire one day in the house near my wife and 5 year old while calibrating the steering. now i dont own an xmaxx. 😟
@Dave Iauco yeah, I pulled the battery leads straight away so it was short. It wasn't a huge issue for me other than disappointment with traxxas, stinking the house out for a week and having to buy a new esc even though it was only a few week old and traxxas didn't want to know. It didn't go down well at all with my wife and son though. Other than that and a few bearings and bodys that xmaxx was bombproof, a blast to drive at my local mtb park.
Easy : buy BOTH 😂. Why choose? Hehehe. Thanks for the video. On a smaller scale, I have the Kraton 6s and Outcast 6s and prefer the Outcast for the "tricks" when I'm off road. When I want to go fast on the pavement, then I go for a Kraton. So you need both 👍
Kev, I have to agree with you on everything you've stated about the X Max and kraton 8s. I almost feel like the kraton 8s isn't in the same category as the x-max, . Definitely more like a truggy.
@@thatmarred_mustang maybe ,maybe not as I'm sure you can now buy the raminator as a roller and they have an electric kit for it which is capable of 12s im pretty sure. Regardless somebody gonna release an rc with 12s sooner or later and when they do you know it's going to be EPPIC.👍👍
Looking at the facts overall as someone new to RC for me the X Maxx is the one I would choose parts prices is one reason and reliability is another one and I prefer the X Maxx shape but that’s my limited opinion
Got an Xmaxx and love it , rpm arms and aluminium chassis brace plus a pair of aluminium rear c cups plus a tbone front basher bumper. Had a lot of tbone stuff on it but was too heavy so sold the lot. Kraton 8s needs about £300 spent on it to make it durable. Still thinking about getting a maxx But great vid as always. Sold my Outcast 6s as broke down all the time it was a money pit. Traxxas tough baby.
Awesome break down review it the cost of the parts also that can make or break you..Couldnt of said it better no matter what brand all can be fun..I personally had 3 Xmaxx's still too this day I think they were the best all around Rc of my line ups..

Tbh I still say the xmaxx is the king because of the durability of it. I like that arrma is at least getting Traxxas to do more with their rc’s. But I still say the xmaxx is best
@@spike-- Improving them. Competition drives innovation.
I agree get them both, if you can👍🏿
I’m was a traxxas guy having the hoss vxl and the slash 4x4, then got an arrma felony 6s and liked the build. Was going to look at an outcast but now I’m looking at the Xmaxx
I’m tryna decide now. Thanks for the help Kevin !
A good honest review on both car's. Both have there place by the looks of it. Keep up the great work Kev.
I have already owned the xmaxx but definitely gonna buy the arrma Kraton 8s. Does come with a 2 yr warranty but I will buy a mc2 chassis as the first upgrade. Then slap a 23t pinion and ready for business
yeh better chassis is a must in you wanna bash
Cant compare 6s kraton and 8s
No wonder you have gained 15 thousand subs in less than a month kev great footage and info
👌😁👌 Yep totally different trucks, I think the plastic chassis is better maybe unless they made a aluminum one like 3 times as thick as what all these RTR RC's come with out of the box it would be good in aluminum.
It should be made from 7075 not that monkey metal
My wife says to get the Xmaxx, therefore I shall buy the Xmaxx
PS, great clip Kev! Thanks for a all the constant hard work you put in. Very entertaining channel.
Great job! Your videos helped me decide on the x max, I absolutely love it! Thanks man! You are a good man Kevin! Appreciate you!
Love this video Bud..love your channel..I have a xmaxx and agree with you it's still the king of Basher
Hahahaa
This video alone should easily sell the X-Maxx... Just hope she's in production for many years to come!!!
Kevin you are the best, always smile or laugh when watching your videos!
So Xmaxx rules 👍...thanks Kev for this comparo 🤘🤘🤘
Kev, get a 1/16 Slash. you've gotta see it. the motor is the Titan 12 turn 550 can size brushed (with Velineon 370 brushless option). also try the LaTrax Teton. you WILL break the servo though.
Took a friend over to our local rc shop the other day and they brought out both of them, he went for the Kraton 8s because it looked more expensive
The realist review. Got questions about durability, look no further. Thank you for sharing.
I think you know my answer 😂 but next spring I may consider..
great video mate.
Thanks for the information about the trucks iam getting the Xmaxx
thanks kevin for the advice
Still the x max looking at getting one for x ma's they look amazing epic vids
Kevin what part do break/replace the most on a xmaxx
I just got a 6s Kraton but I might have to go get the 8s Xmaxx now
I absolutely loved my xmaxx.
So you need both 👍
Kev is never disappointing
Kev, I have to agree with you on everything you've stated about the X Max and kraton 8s. I almost feel like the kraton 8s isn't in the same category as the x-max, . Definitely more like a truggy.
I'm keen to see if Traxxas bring out a new rc like the xmaxx or just bring out a new upgraded version of the 8s Xmaxx(maybe 12s🤷♂️🤞).
No company will be coming out with a 12s anytime.
I'm more of a monster truck lover so I have TWO XMAXX 8S trucks ✌️👍😂
Gotta love a self straightening drive shaft 😂 sold
go with what you know its all about the smiles :)
The Xmaxx Is truly a beast. It's almost unbreakable
Love the videos though hope the never stop
no plan to stop any time soon.
Yay!!!! 😁
Great video. Love you long time!
If you can gear up the 1/5 kraton won’t it be easier to bend the Chasity? They should of just want plastic being that long and heavier
That Bending wasn't because of the gearing, it was cause of jumps. You can jump with a 13 teeth as well as with 17 teeth ^^
ParRagon - what I said is what I said about it going much faster. Make it much easier to bend. More speed with the weight, boom. If can bend already with this light use, it’s definitely not 900 is all I can say. XMAXX
@@ThatsToughTV yeah but like I said u can bend the chassis with that jump that Talbot made with low gearing or high gearing ^^
This video was very helpful thanks for all the great videos
cant wait to get the kraton on my channel kev,
I've literally just decided on which one I'm getting first. Wow. That shit is resilient AF!
"oh my god. oh my god." I lmao'ed for some reason when he said that
Can't wait till I get my XMAXX. I won't treat it like that, but I will have fun with it in the snow.
Planning on getting the xmaxx this summer
