There is no chance that he will be overconfident now, and he has a fresh feeling of being down 3-1, playing a high tension seventh game, and having a huge deficit in it. Also, huge props to Xu for beating Ma twice in two weeks. I don't clearly remember the last time Ma lost to the same person consecutively in such a short period of time. After seeing this, I think Xu should represent China at Rio (this was am exciting tactical melee between the two), but it's his fault that he started playing like this only after the selection (which may be due to the pressure being lifted and him accepting his position). Besides, you can bet that Zhang will play much better at Rio than he has recently.
Fun fact: he's actually right-handed, but plays left-handed. If you look at Stiga videos of him (take a look at "a day with no.1 Stiga star Xu Xin"), you'd see him doing many things with his right hand instead of his left.

Ma did a great job if you ask me. The match started bad for him because Xu took greater risks in his shots and had a bit luck also. Despite of Xu's great form wich nobody can deny, Ma always found a way to win some big and small points, showing everyone his psychic stability. In the last set, Xu used all of his serving tricks and fastest third ball attack, wich gave him an advantageous lead of 8:2. Knowing that this is the last ITTF tournament before the olympics, and that he should have shown better stability, Ma comes back to 9:10. Unfortunatley, not al the way up, but still great in my opinion. His technique remained the same through the years, but his mind works better under pressure.

you can get injured from striking with 100% all the time, for example you plan to go full agressive mode in this round then you have a risk of getting injury on your arms/wrists; others like Xu Xin this match, go for full left and right strat then you get a higher risk of getting injury on your legs
