Just bought my first fxr this week, 94 superglide, shes a minta but big bux down here.lovn how nimble it is and cant go wrong with another sweet evo in the shed. ❤ from NZ
Love the fxr content! Helps motivate me to get to putting my dads 91 back together. got him a new crank for it last Christmas but he still hasn't touched it. If i knew more id do it for him. Thanks for the history lesson!
@@johnkozeluh8691 I know it but the main thing holding me back is wanting him to be apart of it. He was the reason i got into motorcycles as a kid and it sucks knowing hes lost interest. its been apart for 15yrs now!
Otherwise we have the parts and pretty sure he has a manual for it. Just need a bug to bite him in the ass so we can rebuild the beast that made him adventurous!
@@johnkozeluh8691 how about it. Have yet to ride with him at all other than the one time he put me on the back of it when it did run. I was too young to enjoy it but it was definitely still exciting haha
Interesting history you told on Eric Buell. Very accomplished, super intelligent, and seriously talented guy. I hope Harley Davidson payed him well when he worked for them. Unbelievable hitting a wall st 186 mph, his heart stopping, and then them bringing him back to life. He and Pete are seriously walking miracles! ❤
I bought my first bike in 40 years from you Ken the 2003 v-rod and did not know about the Eric Buell connection to that engine so thanks for that. PS I purchased a ‘96 flstn since then as well and have really enjoyed motorcycling safely the past couple years. Great for the mind body and soul.
Had a 1988, if my memory serves me correctly, fxrs-sp in candy brandywine…wish I had kept it…inverted front forks with an air system on the end of the hand grip to add or subtract air into the suspension…
88 would have had 39mm showa forks convential forks NOT upside down the air vavleon handlebars (fxr only ,baggers used crash bar tubing) these are air resvours for antifive front brake system,it was activated by front brake light circuit..air went into forks when u hit frt brakes when u let go of brake lever the air pumped back into handlebar reservoir.
Great video Ken some real interesting history on Eric I got an X1 and a XB9 City and I gotta tell ya I love that X1, kids already laid claim to it 😂😂👌🏼💯👌🏼💯
Black crinkle colour and chrome covers. 39 mm front fork. Single front brake. Keihin carb. Progressive Suspension rear shocks (Aftermarket). Air filter is OEM (CD-player). Maybe 1988-1990 Fxrs Low Rider? I"m not a specialist!
Love these Harley history videos! Especially from someone who was there. I thought it was dumb that Harley stopped producing Buells. Just like I thought it was dumb to stop the Dyna. They say however that the new Softail is even better than both the FXR and the Dyna! They’d probably sell me one but I’m too leery to trust buying from the dealership. They can’t be straight up about the sale. I walk out of there feeling sick.
This was sooo cool ,🍻 👏 I love moto history and I appreciate you sharing the knowledge so freely I love bikes and wish to know the full history of everything related.
very interesting , like the look of those frames , buell's are still around here in the uk , the bolt's and others with the sporster engines vibrate a lot, ok in a cruiser , but i have seen a few that are ridden hard as they are meant to be ,, this means that they had a lot of problems with bits coming undone and falling off , design is one thing , but it is an enormous task to mass produce something , balanced motor is a head start to help frame design , thanks ;
Hey Ken.. your buddy Art here. Ever since I've been watching your videos, the FXR has always peaked my interest because of the way you talk about it. I know it's probably impossible, but if you had to pick the perfect year FXR, what would it be? Is there a specific year that are better than others even though they are all pretty good? Thank you if you can answer and no problem if you can't. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅 God bless America and God bless Kaplan Cycles and his whole family and crew this holiday season. They provide us all with tons of free and informative video information and I definitely appreciate it. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅
Always loved fxrs before i knew anything about bikes that harley davidson and Marlboro man bike had the best look and lines to me as close to a chopper as id get with its forks
Twenty years ago I had a friend ask me to rake his fxr for him so he acquired some instructions from Arlen Ness and I put the bandsaw to it!! He was extatic with it and owns it to this day!!!
@mrpoizun the man still owns it to this day, it's the world of customization brother! I have a 2007 ktm 505 with a 1982 Honda big red motor!, 14 inches of ground clearance and a high/low automatic transmission!😁
Just look what he did with a 1200 sportster motor, 101 hp when best harley could do was 60 hp! Then there's the buell chassis, boy could that thing handle and stop on a dime!
I will second that. I had a 04 XB12s in red. By far the best bike handling wise for the mountains of New Mexico. Literally one of the most intense and enjoyable rides I’ve ever owned.
Some one came to Harley and gave them one of the brst motorcycle frame technology. And Harley trade in to Dyna cheaper platform to manufacture cause they were to greedy.
Best handling Harley is say saying best handling 70’s Broham Cadi 😂 There is no Harley that handles good Sorry Cap! Love The Museum Sir, I’m gonna come see it one day
That was a great history lesson. Definitely a story to be told and retold as necessary. Uplifting for our youth to go chase it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Couldn't agree more. Fun, informative and definitely a worthwhile watch! Thanks for it!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅
Awesome to hear FXR’s bike history.
Thanks!

the reason I started watching Kaplan , some clean fxr's

Net way to learn is start wrenching it on your own. Just get a real good torque wrench, lock tight , and a manual with all the specks good luck to ya

@ maybe just maybe you wrenching on it might motivate him to get out there with you. Good luck brother pray you and pops get to enjoy riding together

Awesome video, thanks for this!
Glad you liked it!
I always love your videos 👍🇺🇸🏁🎅🎄
Another gem from team Kaplan 😊
Erik Buell also rode Cr250r dirt and Ice. (Wisconsin).
Honda did some tube inside of tube stuff too, even on some of their exhaust.
16:20 I need that tail section from the 1190RS for my new Hammerhead! Whose got that mould?

I love the fxr.

Love your videos!
Another great video.
I'm surprised at how few motorcycle companies came out of the States when you look at how impressive their car industry was

Any of the lowrider sport editions or the FXR convertible 91 to 93 or 99 cvo
Wow!!! Awesome. Thanks for the response!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅
Great video! So what do you think of people putting Twin Cam drivetrains in the FXR?
I like it, my friend has one it's one of the best I've ever ridden
My 1985 fxrs lowrider was awesome
Hermosa .....lastima que en argentina son tan caras
Harleys are very cheap now. -Lots of older people getting out of riding and not enough young people on Harleys.
Argentina te admira broder ...graciassss
Super awesome 🤙💯👊
The new lowrider ST is awesome
It would be awesome if you could get Erik on your channel for an interview 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Maybe one day!
looks like the harley marlboro man bike without the seat on
😂 King of ping sure, 👑 King of motorcycling💪 more appropriately👌
Always loved fxrs before i knew anything about bikes that harley davidson and Marlboro man bike had the best look and lines to me as close to a chopper as id get with its forks
If my memmory is working didnt Jay Springsteen ride Lucifurs hammer XR1000 road racer?
Twenty years ago I had a friend ask me to rake his fxr for him so he acquired some instructions from Arlen Ness and I put the bandsaw to it!! He was extatic with it and owns it to this day!!!
So you destroyed an irreplaceable FXR frame. Not good.
@mrpoizun the man still owns it to this day, it's the world of customization brother! I have a 2007 ktm 505 with a 1982 Honda big red motor!, 14 inches of ground clearance and a high/low automatic transmission!😁
Why did Harley stop making that frame?
Union test riders heck i had the wrong profession/job
Just look what he did with a 1200 sportster motor, 101 hp when best harley could do was 60 hp!

I thought FXRs had dual front discs but as an idiot I wouldn't know for sure.
Some did some didn't just like Dynas just depends on what sub model it is..
The newer 2018+ softail frame is superior
Dyna is a wanna bee fxr
