      Great idea! For me I start with confidence in the float rod but also so that I can finesse out a fish before grabbing the flash and get the whole jazzed up. But this would also depend on the run too

      @@stuckonthebank yup I have a jig rod rigged up and tied a bunch of corky +yarn and bead leaders for drift fishing, and have a third rod with a small spinner if the water is irresistibly spinner-y.
      I think the hooks I just had lying around are a little too big/heavy for proper drifting. But I'll get some smaller ones.

      I seem to always go back to my confidence at 10mm. Now that’s under normal conditions. I’ll bump to 12mm in a little higher water. Have not done much 14-16mm yet but do have a 14mm mold now

    I was shocked to see your recommendation for 40-60 lb braid for you float rod. Why?
    I'd like to see an up to date report on Saltwater Steelies on Whidbey Island. My impression is its pretty much ended, like the 100,000 cast fish now.

      The large size line is actually to help with the floatation more than the need for the strength. Really helps with long line mends.
