The quality of this ‘democracy’ is extremely low now - also due to state education / migration / dismantling the Christian fabric - and with only 20% of the vote - no career political party may directly go against the constitution / Bill of Rights and matters which are most key to people’s sovereignty and freedom.

I'm generally very pro-immigration, and believe in cosmopolitan societies. But our recent approach does seem utterly absurd. Like issuing more visas than there are available homes. Importing vast numbers of dependents. Actively encouraging people to arrive here via trafficking gangs rather than organized channels. And giving asylum seekers more support than impoverished Brits. It's a set of policies which almost seem designed to maximize resentment and destroy social cohesion.

@@Vroomfondle1066 I’d say it’s difficult to quantify. Because how do you directly compare (for example) free accommodation to favourable regulations and tax breaks?
So although I might agree with you that corporate cronyism is a bigger injustice. It’s a more tangible injustice when people see (for example) asylum seekers immediately given free shelter and dental care which homeless people are denied.

    • @Starstung

@@andybrice2711Back of envelope is easy: you can apply a monetary value to the % of wealth accumulated over 10 years (it should be 45% and it’s not) vs the monetary value of hiring accommodation plus annual support costs. But it’s quite clear some people can’t math, never mind truly understanding the living experience difference between having wealth of £13,000 vs £13,000,000. Annual interest earned from that wealth alone can support 10-12ish asylum seekers.

On the contrary, I think Starmer is very aware of the thin tightrope he has to walk. The ringleaders of these riots are comparatively few - the majority are people who feel disillusioned and abandoned. They are being fed a narrative of things like two tier policing, immigrants being cared about more than native Britons, white people being fair game culturally, whilst ethnic sensitivity is needed with everyone else, something similar as regards men versus women (note how for the first time in aeons young people are more likely to be right wing than their previous generation... _but only_ the men!). The very worst thing Starmer can do is feed into that narrative. You know how the reaction to Islamist terrorism from much of the left was along the lines of 'these poor youths were vulnerable people who were being exploited'? Anything - and I mean anything - short of that will feed all of the narratives that the ringleaders of these riots are saying.
And the worst thing is: they will have a point. We have no safety net for vulnerable young people now. Cuts have destroyed things like mental health services (which weren't great before), it's cut deeply into other social care for vulnerable people, charities have less and less money to work with, and more and more to do - and they are spread too thin. All the funding that they used to get from local councils has dried up because all the councils are going bust (ask anyone in a position of power in the charity sector - it's disgraceful). You know all that money spent on the Rwanda gimmick? There are organisations responsible for the safety net up and down the country that could have worked relative miracles with that money. Or the money spent on hotels for illegal immigrants. What that means is that more and more people (particularly white men) have slipped through the cracks and are being preyed on by the likes of these riot organisers. It's absolutely crucial that the response to this does not drive those vulnerable people even further into the depths. Society is pretty much broken: we've known that for years - hell, Labour won the election largely on the back of that knowledge.
(For the record, I don't feel calling the organisers 'far right' is particularly helpful. That gets thrown around so much nowadays that a lot of people - particularly the sort of vulnerable people getting preyed on here - tend to just let their eyes glaze over. It's like Putin calling everyone that objects to his tyranny a Nazi - no-one pays that word any heed when he says it. Better to fix hard and fast on the crimes, and keep that front and centre. Much harder for their eyes to glaze over when talking about the specific assaults and other crimes.)

While I agree that hate speech is terrible and I personally wouldn’t partake in it myself, but your stance is a terrible one.
Once you allow freedom of speech to be stifled in any way you’re opening Pandora’s box. Who then gets to decide what’s deemed acceptable? The politicians? The judges they elect and pay for? You? This is a slippery slope, and one day it WILL be aimed at you.
What you’re calling for is a dictatorship and not a democracy. Again, I do not agree with what is happening in any way, and in fact I condemn it.
However, if the government really wants to get things calmed down they need to better regulate illegals in a way that’s beneficial for everyone and not just the illegals/asylum seekers.

We do NOT need to appeal to those people who are rioting and kicking off. What they want is disgusting and unacceptable.

@@MattBooth I think that’s an unfair generalization. A riot generally involves a range of people with different motivations and behaviours.
If someone is smashing up a mosque (for example) then sure, they deserve no consideration, only punishment.
But if they’re just pushing over some bins because they feel enraged and disenfranchised, then they’re hardly a monster. And they may have some reasonable concerns, even if they should also atone for their antisocial behaviour.
