I went from a crushing metal tone snob as a beginner to a clean tone connoisseuer over the years. I dont think anything can beat a clean guitar with reverb.
I did too, I went from playing an sg with high distortion on a small orange amp. Now I play a jazzmaster with a Peavy Classic 50s with 4 10s
I’m slowly transitioning as well. While I’ll always be a metal person at heart, you just can’t be good ol’ blues and rock.
I like both, I feel like it's easier to get a nice clean tone than a nice metal tone that sounds tight and heavy but not fizzy and doesn't disappear in the mix
@@metalfan7270 something i saw Greg Cerwonka from Take Offense do, try heavily scooping the mids on your amp then run through a tube screamer or SD-1 and a graphic EQ with the mids bumped up. you basically completely nuke your mids with the amp's EQ and add the OD to get that "tight" sound, then you surgically add in just the mids needed to cut through in a mix with the EQ pedal. worked for him and his tone is killer.
@@fullmetalfunk I didn't mean I can't do it I mean it's harder for beginners, I already do all that and have been for years. Except it's an electric eye mudkiller instead of a tube screamer
A telecaster in a tweed deluxe is a tone made in heaven...
Tele into a brownface Princeton is a close second...
Can't argue that..
Tele into a vox ac 15 is orgasmic
Is that the one that I’ll get the best tone out of ?
Wow 💯
the Sound is beautiful!!!
Thank you so much!✌🏻✌🏻
The clean tone that always satisfies me when I’m in a mood where nothing sounds great to me is a Strat into a Blackface Fender with “too much” reverb, at least much more than I’d ever use at a gig. That reverb soaked BF Strat sound is the one tone that no matter what my mood or if I’m feeling burnt out it sounds good. Especially in the 2 and 4 positions.
This is the way!
Never heard of too much reverb😂✌🏻
Man this comment made me want to pick up my strat for a quick sesh
@@MatthewScottmusic Eh, I'm not really such a fan of it.
Okay, okay, alright....
I'll admit that plugging a Strat into a blackface reverb amp is definitely among the most satisfying tones in the galaxy...top 3 anyway.
😁
However, if/when I happen to need a little "air", I *personally* prefer a smidge of analog delay more than any reverb... particularly and especially within a live band context for sure!
You know...just a li'l slapback.
;)
So, while I DO recognize the wonderful fulfillment of the lush Fender 'verb, it just doesn't work for me in all scenarios.
Again, that's just my personal preference.
You definitely have a handle on yer gear, tho', mang!
Rock on.
🤘
@@MatthewScottmusic What amp did you use in this video? Super Reverb? Great gone and playing!
Stevie Ray is looking down and smiles . Awesome feeling
Thanks! 31 years since he passed as of 3 days ago! 🙏🏻✌🏻
@@MatthewScottmusic The first time I saw SRV it was in NYC on his first tour supporting his debut album. He opened up for the Greg Allman band. His performance was simply stunning. My jaw was on the floor for most of the set. It is hard to believe it was so long ago that he passed. He is still missed 💔😔.
@@stratmagic6893 I'm envious! Amazing! ✌🏻
Cringe boomer moment hahahahah
@@MatthewScottmusic Jesus! Stevie will always be missed.
Im more of a Les Paul + Marshall type of Guy, but i totally understand why you love the Fender Tone so much. My dad has a Fender Amp from the late 60 and sometimes i plug in my strat and just chill. Truely magical sounding
I’d like to provide a more accurate title for this video:
“MY Fender tone is the best clean tone.”
thank you kindly! ✌🏻
Thanks to his fretwork. He refrets almost all his guitars
@@yamahargxtt you are correct!

"Also my original twin reverb"
Matt, your playing and videos inspire me and at the same time help me forget about all the troubles in the world. Thank you for sharing your talents with us!
I'm on my 20th replay of this since this morning.
Great,great,great playing and fantastic tone!
Take care,
K.
Thanks so much for that Kris, your support helps immensely! ✌🏻
It's sweet! Gretsch electromatic has a lovely rich clean tone that leans more towards an enhanced acoustic experience. Different guitars, pickups and various enhancements for each genre.
This is what I love to see. Someone just playing some riffs and enjoying the guitar. No rules, so restrictions, just joy!
Thanks for sharing🙂
Amazing tone, man. I absolutely love it. Keep up the good shit!🤘🏻👍🏻
Glorious tone and playing!
The level to which you have nailed SRV is truly an achievement, big ups my man
That sounds fantastic Matthew!!
Damn, that was delicious.
Some people say tone is on the fingers and the amp preset. And I agree but when I play a Fender Stratocaster I feel the tone emerge from every part of the guitar: the wood, the pickups, even the fretboard.
I’m kind of a Fender fanboy to be honest.
There's an old adage in entertainment “always leave them wanting more” well you got that one nailed and some...fab stuff!!
it is a legend. I believe even after hundred years later the strat will keep its design and tone the same. imagine a stradivarius violin today.
Subscribed! Beautifully played.
Amazing tone Matthew and well played sounded brilliant mate 👏👏👏👏
Strats aren’t really my favorite to play, but they are one of my favorite to listen to!!!
I am the opposite. I love the sound of a good les paul or sg but neck wise its got to be a strat or a tele
@@santrixhimself3679 i love playing a tele but a strat just doesn’t feel right in my hands, still love em tho
@@loganthrift11 is the middle pickup in the way or is it the bridge? Usually its one of these two
Same here! I´ve had some strats, but never really bonded with them. Now I am a happy tele player, but I wish I could bond with a strat.
@@santrixhimself3679 I’m not quite sure,it’s not bad it’s just that something feels off when I’m playing
Great tone, love it. That said, any given day when I picture "clean" it could be Fender or a Hiwatt. I would honestly be interested in your thoughts on Hiwatt.
The one minute and one second I absolutely needed today. Thanks young man.
What I love about a fender into a fender is that it’s so clean and chimey but if u really dig in u can get that bite too and really hit ur amp.
most of us take a while to appreciate the Stratocaster, you're way ahead on that one 🎸
I've always preferred clean tones to distortion. Gives your guitar a more smooth, sliding, beautiful like quality. This is a perfect example of this. Amazing work sir! Keep on doing what you are doing!
Blues music helped me to relax with my attitude towards music in general. Your videos helped aswell.
Quite honestly Matthew, no words are necessary in this video, just play Bud! You made me smile! Any time you feel like throwin some slide into the mix, I am IN Sir!
Wow that tone
I love teles but sometimes you can get really sweet tones on a 335 or les paul if you've got the right combo of pickups, pots and caps.
Great playing as usual. A real pleasure to listen to...
I dig the smile after the first little run, it says “Hell yes.” 💪
Those double stops are what really stand out on a Strat. Definitely a one of a kind tone.
The smile at the end says it all...what great tone Matthew!
Kinda looks like you are wearing ear protection when you turn your head at the end. If you are, good lesson for the young folk. Don’t want to end up middle aged with ringing ears and reduced hearing like myself.
I always wear ear protection at home or when rehearsing.
Excellent as always
Fantastic, my friend!! It is a relaxing and confortable sound.
Sensacional maestro
I’ve always been a les Paul dude (had quite a few tele’s back in the day but primarily been Gibson). I bought my first strat a few weeks ago because the tone you get with your strat and a cranked fender amp is divine. Took a while for me to get used to it but I’m loving it now 👍🏻
It takes some getting used to coming from a Gibson! Glad you're enjoying it👍🏻✌🏻
I'll put my 78' Les Paul with Mini-humbuckers against any fender in regards to clean tone. I am playing out of a 75' Fender Super Reverb however. 😂🎸
Love your touch. So fluent and expressive. Love the way you work the controls too to demo the range of the almighty strat. ‘Would appreciate a video just on that.
Great Matthew 👍🏻 keep it coming my friend 👍🏻
No serious Strat-lover could watch this video only once. No one.
LOL... you caught me
Yea this is my second time in a row
The eight people disliking feel Vox is the best clean tone… Damn nice playing!
Nice playing Matthew, and really enjoyed seeing the show where you visit guitar shops. Eye and ear candy- oh yea!
This is just perfect 👏🏼
Yeah, hard to disagree :) Nice tones, Matthew.
The expressive tonal possibilities of a Strat
and a Fender amp do seem endless...
I always prefered G&L with my Roland Jazz Chorus, but i admit your tone is from another world!
ewww. LOL
Jazz chorus with a Jaguar or JM is amazing for any sort of punk new wave or grunge. A great example of this is a band named “Drug Church”. Check em out.
one of the blandest, most crappy sounding amps ever...
Not sure about the Roland amp but my G&L mfd pickups always sound killer through a small fender amp or a marshal combo.
Classic! 😆 🤘🏻✌🏻
I'm blown away by your playing ever single time I watch your videos.
Absolutely. Matthew Scott and Robert Baker do a great job of showing us what strats can really do.
The smirk he gave said “damn!!!! Y’all hear that??!!!”
the same tone as Stevie Ray Vaughan.
I have always thought that to play Fender you have to be more verbose, precise.
With gibson, you have a chance to be messier, as the dirtiness of its sound suits it well.
Love it. Wake up, in the middle of the night for a little fresh air& tune!
Oooh oooh oooh! You make it sing so masterfully in a style I love playing on guitar too so hearing your skills is precious!
Fender is the Best Clean Tone just for the person who thinks that Fender is the best clean tone.
Water is wet indeed.
@@merikslingerland1293 you got it 👌🏻✨
Wow.. that’s almost exactly how opinions work
nailed
The only, and I mean only, downside. You've gotta turn most fenders up to a stupid volume before they get magical.
Incorrect
Hi Matthew, I also love Fender Strats ! I have owned 7 different Strats (especially 70's which are my favorite). So thank you for this video !
Hey Brother Matt oh, that last 15 seconds was the best part of the entire video you are absolutely incredible
i think the base on fender is just amazing it has such a kick/punch to it and it also just has this snap to it as well that just makes it sounds so great
Your tones are the best! 🤘🎸
Always awesome! Those tones......love that bridge pickup downpicking segment as well....for the twang factor!
That strat sounds great …… and you are one incredible guitarist!
sounds so good
short and straight to the point. love it.
Absolutely incredible
Excellent sounding demonstration, you have skills.
this gives me some very good SRV vibes. Awesome video!
Oh man. Thank you for that
Damn, sounds so beautiful
Awesome playing Awesome Tone 👍
Man it is sounding really good!!!
I really wish i had your talent matt....your livin the dream . Thanks for sharimg it with us
Never ceases to amaze my friend. You always have damn good tone!! My favorite is my Custom Clean it’s a 100 watt SSS clone that Bill Krinard made with Two Rock over a decade ago. My 65 super that Cougar did some work on is up there too.
Outstanding thank you
sounds great!!!!!!
That is awesome clean tone!
100% agree. That tone is so beautiful and truly can't be replicated by another guitar.
Awesome playing, no talking ♥ Thank you
not gonna lie, when you smiled at the end you made me smile too, keep it up the good content as always❤
Absolutely yes!
that’s cleanest tone i’ve ever heard beautiful 🤟🏼
Wow! The reverb sure works.
Absolutely perfect sound

Sweet sounds indeed!
Very nice!

An instantly recognizable tone, and a perfect tone!
awesome tone!
Im addicted to picking close to the bridge like that. Love that tone
This look at the end man.. You are absolutely HAPPY!
Beautiful!
Yes! I agree Matthew.
Your videos remind me of what life is really about. It''s the blues, clearly!
If I could get my Stat to sound like yours I would have the same grin that you have. Thanks Matthew!
Love my 1966 mij strat and fender bassman reissue yours sounds amazing
Glorious!
