I saw the same issue on a newer Briggs 17.5 on a Troy Bilt. The plastic engine fan broke and the customer kept running it, engine ended up overheating and this was the result. Put a new head on it and no problems since. I’ve seen a couple videos on this as well
I immediately knew it was an exhaust valve issue. I would have pulled the head and staked the valve seat back in. Cost effective and better than new! Too bad you couldn’t talk the owner into doing that. I strongly suspect the actual cause was overheating due to dirty cooling fins caused by an oil leak somewhere based on the amount of buildup around the valve cover.
Hey Rein, thanks! On my neighbors mower, I figured that mower (in running condition) would only be worth $400 max. I often buy much nicer used mowers for $400-$500. After pricing all the new parts plus my time, it just didn't make sense. He quickly found a much nicer used one for around $600.
Way better the endoscope I have now because the end rotates and shows great angles. Are you going to peen the valve seat or put a new cylinder head on?
@@philliphall5198 73?!!! You’re way too young to be thinking about quitting!!! 😂 I’m 77 and have no intention of quitting until they pry my favorite torque wrench from my cold dead hands! 😉 Of course I can’t afford to stop working, so there is that as well. 👨🏻🍳🔧😁 I’m also a baker, so I’m juggling two occupations to make ends meet. I don’t have time to think about stopping! 😉
