I have over 2,000 books on my phone and this is after I cleaned them out. I have read all but 20 or 30 of them. I have loved reading since the first word I learned. I am 72 and still going strong. I am grateful for technology due to the fact that I have had a crippling disease and I can no longer walk and have very limited use of my hands now but I can READ. I highly recommend it.

2020 Update:
Trump: “I did something good: I made Juneteenth very famous. It's actually an important event, an important time. But nobody had ever heard of it."
He was reminded by his WH staff that they celebrated Juneteenth the year before.
The tragedy of it is: I really never heard about Juneteenth before, or about the Tulsa massacre. It's really bitter, but everybody who just watches hollywood movies knows about 4th or july and that thing that Americans have for miss America, floats and floats with Miss america on it. And cheer leaders, of course. (Also football as an excuse to have cheer leaders.)
And Nazis, of course, as in really awful guys who killed lots of jews in death camps (and also had it in for communists, socialists, homosexuals and Jehova's witnesses, and got into power when an old-established party thought that picking a hate-mongering figure head with no political experience but lots of followers would be a good idea, but somehow those bits rarely make it into the movies).
But Juneteenth? I don't know of a single movie or tv-show I ever watched that mentioned it.

I cheered at so much of this. Bill is so right. I would love to hear his comments on products like Grammarly which I find both horrifying and shocking in their implications. I find the lack of reading culturally worrying. As a commuting man in my late 20s I managed to read 1,000 pages a week, not throwaway trash - but Dickens, Balzac, Zola, Trollope and so much more.
Ok I admit I laughed with the "setting the teleprompter to Shatner". :)

Fox is no better or worse than any other major media outlet. They all certainly have bias and cherry pick facts to fit narrative. If you watch CNN regularly, you’re going to be on a different set of fundamentals than those who tune into Fox or Breitbart. There’s only a handful of completely news oriented distributors left in the western world and until we start promoting non partisan information reporting, their going to be the only ones.

One of Bill's best New Rules Segments in a while. This country needs to spend more money on education. If we used half the money we waste away on idiotic pointless wars overseas, we could educate our country better. The problem is, in this country- people aren't taught how to think or use common sense. We have potential and we need to use it!
Bozo Clown It's a combination of both, but people need to be taught how to think and use common sense and basically use your brain.
What you spend on education today becomes your economy 15 years later.
Thank you Anna. But I agree with Bozo too. It's not just money. But that's a major part of it. Everyone should be able to get at least an Associates/Transfer Degree or Trade Cert on the public dime at community colleges. I know I spend more on my county's junior college than I do on my kid's High School based on my property tax statement, so it shouldn't be a tuition issue. But it's also a teaching philosophy problem. I'm old, so I remember Carter and when Reaganomics kicked in. Along with the bottom falling out of the middle class, the way we were being taught changed. They started molding us into employees, not intellectuals. High school classes stopped emphasizing classical cirriculum like Latin (the gateway language to learning all Romantic languages, which opens up all sorts of international and scientific work for you) and hard sciences for everyone, not just the AP students, and started forcing things like Word Processing, and beating students to death with how to write resumes rather than teaching them how to start their own enterprises or become a Hemmingway level writer. We produced Americans who were ready to go around the world before then, and most couldn't survive in real Mexico for more than a weekend now. College educations became less about education and more about employment around the 80's. Not self employment, but corporate employment. More well trained minions for the Ivy League CEO's were wanted, inventive and articulate independent thinkers were not. Unfortunately, we still have that philosophy today. It's telling that a 4 year degree costs as much as a small home now.
If there's anything we need to do away with, it's "common sense." Common sense is often wrong.

Carl Taylor - Exactly! The Warton School when trump attended was renowned as a cash cow program with low academic standards. Basically if you paid the tuition you got a degree. Trump also graduated without any honours despite him saying he was the top of his class.
As a university graduate I can certainly attest to the fact that a university degree does not, in and of itself indicate superior intelligence. It is more an indication of social background. I went to a private school in high school and every single person I graduated with obtained a university degree after high school; some of those people were dumb as fuck.
