Another one I grew up with and have around my place from my grandfather's farm. I need mine to be in a better spot, though, and now I have more sun in certain places to do that. I love them. Another great edible is nasturtium flowers, rather peppery.
I’ve never eaten nasturtium! I’ll add it to my list! This one transplanted very easily...try transplanting it!
I've heard of them. I guess they would do well here in Florida
THEY WILL GROW PRACTICALLY ANYWHERE I THINK YOU SHOULD GIVE IT A TRY THEY ARE LOVELY WHEN BLOOMING
Zones 4-9 the internet says. Might be a tad too hot for them unless they’re in the shade.
@@CopperheadRoadHomestead It's a tad too hot for everything here in SW FL unless your in shade!! LOL
Such a beautiful rose bush. Hmm I need to look into getting a Rose of Sharon.
Oh yeah...actually, a tree! Cool, right!?
@@CopperheadRoadHomestead very cool
Thanks for sharing about the Rose of Sharon Tree.. I have one growing on the side of my house..which I had to move from the back of my house to the side cause it wasn't thriving in the back..it was actually dying!.. so I replanted it and now she is growing beautifully!:)*
Great! We transplanted this one, too. I think we are going to get more!
We had these at my childhood home. The flowers attract bumble bees like crazy. I would catch the bees by closing the flower opening around them. Then I'd let them go. Never got stung, but bumble bees tend not to sting anyways. Lots of fun for kids.
Memories! I’m hoping our kids build some good ones on the farm. Very exciting!
This is totally new to me. I have a beautiful Rose of Sharon. Thanks for the info! Love and hugs.
Love and hugs back!
Thank you for sharing my friend 👍
My pleasure!
SO GLAD YOU DID A VIDEO ON THIS!! I HAVE ALWAYS GROWN. ROSE OF SHARON ALSO KNOWN AS LAVATERA IN EUROPE, AT EVERY HOME I’VE LIVED IN, IT IS SO PROLIFIC IN IT’S GROWING ABILITY AND JUST LOOKS SO PRETTY AND STRIKING WHEN IT’S IN FULL BLOOM. IT’S THE EASIEST TREE TO PROPAGATE! DEFINITELY THE FLOWERS TASTE WAY BETTER BUT IN AN EMERGENCY I’D BE EATING THE ROOTS AND ALL 😂
I love trees that are easy to grow and produce food!
Copperhead Road Homestead YES ME TOO!!
Always some great info here
Thanks, friend!
I had no idea! We got rid of one that we planted years before in a bad place for it and we had to take it out. Now I wish we hadn’t. Thanks for what you teach us each day.
Get another one! My pleasure...enjoying doing the channel very much.
Really great info ! I got to learn something new .
So glad. I appreciate you!
Great video. They say Japanese beetles are edible. Also your little raptors fowl should love to eat them. If cool enough early morning go by your plants with a long stick. Rub it along the bushes, branched and leaves/flowers knocking the beetles to the ground. Then release the raptors of doom on them. Ie perma fence around area open chicken tractor. Now that would be a great video. If you have young turkey they will decimate the beetles.
2nd hand information from when the Rhodes went to see the gentleman farmer who farms super natural way and eats Japanese beetles in front of his guests.
I’m too scared to try them.
Had the Rose of Sharon trees all around my first home.... not one of my favorite trees....I thought the flower was ugly, but it did attract tons of bees and the was good for my garden.
Yeah...not my favorite, but a useful tree, nonetheless!
do they spread from roots or seeds from the flower? i had a a few 15 footers in my yard growing up. we had purple, pinkish, and white flower trees we literally had hundreds of tiny trees growing all around it in the lawn that we would pull up with the weeds every summer. when you crop the bottom, and leave a little ball of growth on top, it loo,s like so me kind of exotic plant. up here in NY, rose of shannon survive the brutalist of winters. my hibiscus dies in a mild winter and needs to be brought inside (i keep it in a 10 gallon pot.
From my research they spread by runners AND seeds. They definitely spread!
How do the Japanese Beatles taste?
Hibisciits! That’s what I’ve been making!!!
Ha! I’ve heard they’re edible. I’m too scared to try them.
