    Those strings are designed for Open G Major Tuning (G, B, D, G, B, D) but the owner however tunes down a half step to Open G Flat Major (Gb, Bb, Db, Gb, Bb, Db) & then puts the converter capo on the 1st fret to get the regular Open G Major pitch.

    I used to spin the reso cones for EMI (Original Music Instriments) back in the mid 80s. Don Young taught me how to do this.I was a machinist so it was not to bad learning. BIG learning curve to spin them.Don owned National Resophonic guitars.I love resos,good job and video Dave ....cheers.

    I got hold of a 2013 Dean "Resurrection" spalted maple spider bridge prototype resonator guitar that had been in the storage vault at the Dean factory in Tampa, FL. The build looks identical to the Dean spider bridge resonator you're showing here, except for different veneer, binding and hardware on mine. The first thing I noticed when I got my Dean reso was that some hamfister had way overtightned the cone adjustment screw, which distorted the spider bridge and kinda flattened the cone. So...I installed a new Replogle spider bridge, hand-tooled cone and maple-ebony split-compensated saddle. Now my Dean is truly resurrected!

    I couldn't have stopped myself from trying to fix that dent, and then probably order a new cone :)

    • @vsmicer
      @vsmicer 6 років тому +8

      The only way to fix the dent safely is to press it out against a curved former. I made such a former a few years ago, having got a few of these (not necessarily Deans, but resonators) through my workshop over the last 20 years or so. Once the cone is secure in the former, I roll an old rubber handled Stanley screwdriver under thumb pressure over such a dent. The metal of the cone is usually a fairly thin, press-formed aluminium, sometimes anodised, sometimes in older Dobro types, it can be a laminated tin or even something else entirely. However, the material is usually thin enough to press out - carefully - without too much trouble. The rubber handle on the screwdriver seems to fit the arc of such cones quite well and of course doesn't scratch them up.

      All I can think of is you tapping it with a hammer one way and in the end completely trashing it like in the episode of Father Ted when they get a car as a raffle prize

      Could it be that the cone was dented to change the tone?

    Who is the owner of this Guitar? Yeah the Converter Capo allows you to play it like a Square Neck Resonator Guitar & if you want to you can pull it off lower the action & play it like a Regular Guitar.

    It could use a dog eared p90 where those three little holes are . It should also be run through a Fishman pre-amp with a volume and tone control. Those piezo deals are not a great sound on their own.

    • @RockStarOscarStern634

      You need Acoustic Guitar strings. For lighter strings you have to string them below the tailpiece lip to get more break angle over the bridge.

    Those donut piezoelectric pickups are just awful and worse on a resonator cone. Also all original OMI dobros and top shelf makers do not use a spring anywhere on the cone. The tension screw is tightened until the slightest tension is felt and then only turn the screw up to a quarter turn or you will risk damaging the cone.

    Can someone with guitar knowledge tell me what is he sliding behind the strings ?It looks like he is measuring the distance between the strings and the frets but what determines what is good more space between the strings and frets ? And why please ...thankyou

    • @MrPhillipHBrown
      @MrPhillipHBrown 5 років тому

      With a capo on the first fret and the string held down at the 17th fret Dave is measuring the clearance with a feeler gauge in the middle of the neck (.018 inches is the target I believe he uses) he then adjusts the truss rod to make the neck more or less bowed to adjust it to that clearance.

    Why don't you never try this guitars first. You always find their necks to straight. Don't you wonder why. You immediately transform them into bananas. No truss road tension no tone. Learn a little guitar. It will help your work.

      lolocfmjpwp0kjcxsa i am here from the beginning. How do you think I know that he doesn't try the guitars. Bending strings and every thing. He just play some base. You can't set everything to 12 thou release. 12 thou is just for vintage 7.25 inch radius. 10 thou is for 9.5 or much less. You can't treat every guitar the same no matter what. You first try the guitar. Not for sound but for playability to. So no I am not new here.
