    My favorite thing displayed in the video has to be the accessibility features because it seems so simple to implement in almost every situation. More companies should be doing this. You make the best CES videos!

      It seems simple because it really really is. The issue is people don't think about it nearly enough until it becomes an immediate concern for them in their daily lives.

    I lived in Europe for a few years and discovered these washer/dryer in one units. LG didn’t invent them, and in fact, they’ve existed since the 1950s. I had one in my apartment and they work, but you have to wash a significantly smaller load or take considerably longer. Because of how they work when you open them at the end your clothing feels wet, but if you shake it out it then is actually dry (relative humidity or something like that). Last tidbit is that if you don’t take your clothing out right away it will be a very wrinkled mess. I’ll happily stick with two units after my 18 months of experience using a combo unit.

      Mine has a particularly large drum. If you filled it to the max with the heaviest wet things you could think of like a drum of bath towels, it would probably dry them in about 3.5 hours on high. I've noticed that slight dampness before you take it out and give it a shake. I usually dry my clothes on low for 3hrs since I dont like overdrying. Small loads would get bone dry if you left it on that long though. I'll say every other washer dryer I've had wasn't this capable with those typical bug bears much more prominent.
      All that said, if I had room in my current place I'd have two separate units.

      @@JerryRigEverything I'd love to see the LG transparent displays in a vehicle, as the windshield of the vehicle. It would be cool to replace dashboards with it. Imagine being able to see things like speed, navigation, energy level, etc. all right in front of you, without a central display or having to take your eyes off the road. And if it fails, it would just be fully transparent, so there is little risk.

    • @peglor
      @peglor 8 місяців тому +1

      @@ProXcaliber This would be stupidly dangerous. The reason head up displays are usable is because the light that makes them up is focused to infinity so your eyes don't have to change focusing distance to see the display. Having it in the windscreen glass itself means the drive has to chose between looking where they're going and reading the display - not that it would surprise me even slightly if they did it anyway given how much distracting junk is already in modern cars.

      t@@peglor light focussed to infinity? what does thta mean

    • @peglor
      @peglor 8 місяців тому

      @@SToXC_. In the context I'm using it, it means light originating from a point so far away that the beams are effectively parallel rather than diverging from the source of the light. The classic example of light in this form is the light that gets to us from stars in optics, the term 'collimated' often used for light in this alignment.
      In terms of how your eye sees, you are probably aware that items from about 3 meters away and further all stay in focus without your eye needing to make any adjustment, while for reading and other close up work, your eye has to change focus to see, at the expense of the items that are further away being out of focus.
      Everything you need to see outside a car while driving is at the infinity focus range, so a HUD that is physically in the glass of the car window will require the eye to adjust focus to read. These focus changes take time, and increase driver fatigue and decrease driver awareness of what's happening outside the car - this is the problem HUDs solve when focused to infinity as they are in focus with everything else the driver should be looking at.
      The reason short focusing increases fatigue is because in human eyes (And most other animals with eyes capable of focal changes), is that when there is no muscle tension on the muscles that compress the lens in the eye (So fully relaxed), this is the point at which the eye should be focused to infinity - if you're short sighted, while fully relaxed the lens is still too powerful, long sighted means the lens relaxes past this point. This is why most relaxing position for looking at something and paying attention to it is at the infinity focus.

      @@triadwarfareMy Samsung one is ventless and 13 kg wash/7 kg dry. I rarely use the dryer, but I've never had to take anything out. It does the washing and drying with no intervention in one seamless operation.
      About the ventless units: there are drawbacks. They actually use more water during the drying process than during the wash cycle. I am NOT exaggerating; read the manual. The reason for that is because the lint has to be washed down the drain -- without clogging -- instead of it being caught by a lint screen. The plus is that you don't have to clean a lint filter every time you use it, but it not only uses more water, it takes about 8 times longer. Again I am not exaggerating in saying that my clothes dry faster on the line, even on days that are cloudy, than using the dryer function.
      So these units are best for people like me who prefer to dry on the line whenever possible. It's peace of mind as a backup if there are several rainy days in a row and I absolutely need something specific washed.
      It does a fantastic job, though, and is bigger than any other home washer I've ever used.

      @triadwarfare same drum, so if it can carry clothe + water, it can handle clothes without water.
      Usually, it'll be an electric dryer where it heats air that then circulates in the drum vs basically a furnace circulating hot air. Drying times are usually significantly higher than gas dryers. But, the advantage is that you don't need to move your clothes from one place to another and also you don't have to worry about clothes getting musty if you don't take them out right after the drying cycle is done. Thisbis due to evaporation rates been lower than with gas dryers and thus it making it easier for the exhaust fans to fully take off all vapor out of the drum. Because there is ventilation that takes the moist air out of the machine.
      Also, electric dryers are gentler in the fabrics than gas dryers.

    • @mjc0961
      @mjc0961 8 місяців тому

      They're not really slower. It takes a washer X amount of time to wash the clothes, then the dryer takes Y amount of time to dry them. The combo units that do both without making you switch the wet clothes from the washer to the dryer generally complete the task in the same amount of time, X + Y. A little faster, honestly, because the combo unit removes the transfer step which also takes time.
      People just perceive it as slower because it's one machine with (just making up numbers) a 1 hour 30 minute runtime VS one machine with a 30 minute runtime and another machine with a 1 hour runtime. In reality it's just a longer period of time before needing to interact with the laundry again (which is fine by me, I hate doing laundry)

    It finishes a full load in about 2 hours. This may seem long, but remember, you can turn it on and go to bed, and wake up to clothes ready to wear. You don't have to move them from washer to dryer.
    Costs is about what you'd pay for a high-end washer/dryer set. Our only complaint is that it sometimes struggles with pet hair.

    Hey Jerry,
    I hope you and your wife are doing great! Wishing you a fantastic year ahead filled with loads of good fortune, especially in light of that exciting lawsuit against Castify! I thoroughly enjoyed the video; seeing those innovations materialize, particularly the car, has got me really pumped.
    It's a bit of a bummer that LG has exited the physical phone market. I distinctly remember their sleek rollable phone concept-it was mind-blowing! Maybe someday they'll make a comeback. I've always admired their penchant for thinking outside the box and their unique tech.
    Here's to an incredible 2024 for you. Keep up the exceptional work! Cheers!

    The Washer - Dryer combo has been around since the 50s. They tend to compromise on the load capacity and energy efficiency to combine the washing and drying - but are normally found in small apartments where space is at a premium.

    Regarding the washer/dryer combo .. those have been around in Eurpoe for years .. but GE has one that uses heat pump technology to dry clothes without the need for a vent and it uses a standar wall plug. It’s called the GE Profile - UltraFast 4.8 cu ft Large Capacity All-in-One Electric Washer/Dryer Combo with Ventless Heat Pump Technology. I have one and absolutely LOVE itl. It also uses less power to operate than a normal washer and dryer.

    4:20, Not practical to get one of those washer/dryer combo if you're always doing more than one load. You'd had to wait for the washer and dryer to be done just to add the next load instead of washing and drying at the same time in seperate machines.

      It still doesn't have real-world use case. On a car you want clear glass to look through while driving, not a transparent OLED. And plenty of modern cars already have HUDs that can display things on the windshield without the rest of the windshield putting a blurry beige filter on your view of the road.

    Jerry, LG has always been EONS ahead of the other manufacturers with ideas and products that take great imagination and engineering. The one thing they lack is heart. I lived in New Zealand for 5 years returning to the states in 2006. Even in New Zealand, LG Products lasted until right around the ending of the warranty period as if there was a built-in chip designed to cause a failure at warranty end. There was no give with LG. When the warranty ended, it ended. I have had other manufacturers overlook the end of a warranty because of the closeness in time. Even here in the states, I found LG Product do not have the longivity that others have. There is a gentleman here on UA-cam who repairs large appliances, and his recommendation is to avoid these high ends, loaded with feature appliances and stick to the basic models that have less of a failure rate. He specifically points to LG and Samsung when offering this advice. I'm not saying that everyone who buys LG Products will experience the problems I have had. I can only express my experience with them. BTW, Panasonic is also poor at extending repairs beyond the warranty period and that is for "KNOWN ISSUES" too.

      @@Jerry-ko9pi it’s not that the US is behind, it’s just historically the U.S. has bigger homes and more room for larger and more items. So the companies selling washers there could easily double down and sell not just one unit, but two at a time - or a stacked unit that’s more expensive than what someone in Europe would pay for a combo. In Europe and the U.K. it was about people not having the space for both, nor the desire to pay twice for something that could do the whole job. Separate washer and dryer just wasn’t a thing there until more recent years when the companies there caught on they could sell both to yuppies.
