Amazing vid Perna! Shoutout to you and the support cast, well said. Excited to see what our scouting department puts together this year. Despite being impoverished in draft stock for the last few years I still think the core of our scouting operations (thanks Gary Kubiak) and George have some solid evaluators. The biggest issue with our team has been a lack of offensive identity where 'good' players (including Russ) are misfits to the scheme. Sean is getting his kitchen in order and making sure he has the right core ingredients to support his scheme and the growing pains we experience now will help right size our roster.
The downturn of the Broncos is especially wild to me as a lifelong and die-hard Lions fan born and raised in northern Michigan, who now lives in Denver. I almost feel as though I have somehow cursed this franchise. The Broncos have literally become the Lions of old, and the Lions are now legit Super Bowl contenders.
Amazing recap and retrospective commentary and video. This was the perfect balance between respect and regretful rage. You (and Will) deserve every dollar that Lord Taco puts towards Carmie’s college fund!
Thanks for the videos and keeping the commentary on the Broncos entertaining! Here's to another five years of irrelevancy while the Broncos work to get out from under the Russel Wilson contract. Wilson's agent, Mark Rogers was definitely the smartest person in the room during talks with Broncos management.
There’s something about watching a man express the emotions externally about a football team that I feel internally about 90% of my life choices is sooooooo satisfying. Subscribed!
I was so happy about the Russ trade that I bought my first Gamer, a Blue on Orange #3 to ware to the Monday Night Opener in Seattle. Four and a half hour drive each way for the game and all I got from that trip was quite literally Covid! I followed that up with my first trip to Denver to watch a game at Mile High this season. Road tripping over 1,200miles each way to watch what I figured was a Winnable game against the Commanders. If you thought Perna's reaction to the end of that game was over the top, let me tell you every fan in the stands was either too depressed to say a word or yelling at the refs louder than they had been cheering all game. Going to those two games cost me over $1000 in tickets, hotels, gas and an entire week out of work with Covid after blowing my PTO in the case of the Seattle game. If I ever go to a live Broncos game again it will a game later in the season when I know the team is actually competitive! I'm done paying for the Hype! The only game I've been to that they won was in LA when the Chargers played in a MLS stadium and Joe Flaco was our QB!
It's a truly beautiful thing to see a fan be paid to make amazing content by letting his fandom out. It's entirely more enjoyable than any other sports stuff I see out there. All of it
Long Time Seahawks fan, you are very correct and Im convinced that General Managers only saw box scores and highlight plays weekly and not the huge first down droughts that he went thru in almost every game.
tying that happy gilmore joke into russ’ insane contract together with the ‘price is wrong bitch’ is something that shouldnt go unnoticed or overlooked in how smart and funny it was. good shit brandon.
1:42 - I grew up a Patriots fan in the 80s and 90s and I had to live through Rod Rust and the locker room scandal and the Bears clowning the Patriots harder than had ever been seen in the SB to that point (thank you Denver for bearing that cross in our stead), so I guess getting to be a fan of the Galactic Empire for a couple decades balanced it out some. I didn't pick the 1991 Patriots but what was I going to do?
When you mentioned drafting Jay Cutler at the end let me mention, as a bears fan, I related exactly to your feelings in this video when he left us. He cost way more than he was worth but with more playoff performance to hide his other flaws
Nine-tenths of the time during the past two years Russel Wilson was the only person getting anything done for the Broncos, and that includes the work done by Coach Payton. This is a franchise destroying, short-sighted, myopic move. Have fun watching the barn burn down.
Every time I see the video of the Broncos introducing Wilson, I can't help but hear Kurt Russell yelling, "You tell them I'm coming, and hell's coming with me. You hear me? Hell's coming with me!"
I wonder what'll happen to Courtland Sutton next year, because he absolutely balled out with Russ. Hopefully he continues his great play so that at least SOMETHING positive came of this whole situation. Also, as a Raiders fan, I remember hearing you talk about the coaching dynamics being so different between Seattle and Denver. I bet Coach Pierce might be a bit more Russ's speed, if he does come to us. Not that I'd expect HUGE output, but there'd be some potential.
As another Broncos Fan, starting in 1973 through now and onward I have a serious question: "Why hasn't the GM had his butt lit up over that screwed up contract extension?" 😈
It's like all the sadness and rage of Tree watching the Steelers lose in the playoffs to Cleveland but stretched into two years. And I must say, it was *chef's kiss*
As a (name redacted)/Commanders fan, the rant about fandom hits hard…as does the “side pieces” line. From one suffering fan to another, I salute you, good sir. Cling to the hopeium; it makes the dark nights warmer. 😢😂
Fandom isn't a choice - "they own my soul forever" - I felt that. Lifelong Lions fan. That will never change, even if we fire MCDC next year and trade St. Brown & Penei Sewell for 5 months of free Subway for the GM (and only the GM).
This is the best Biopic of Brandon “Will is better, funnier, sexier, and smarter than me” Perna I have ever seen. Love you Perna. I hate that the broncos have done this to you
Payton allegedly threw making it into the playoffs to mess over Wilson. Between Payton still being the coach and Wilson's contract obligations, that ride is going on for a while. Lube up baby!
Chiefs fan here. We had our QB's that didn't save us. Trent Green, Matt Cassel, and a few other bad ones in between. It's part of the rebuilding process. That dead money is going to hurt... but in 2 to 3 years, if the team does all the right things, you'll be back to being competitive in the West. Yes, I know you hate my team. I have no love lost for yours, especially since I've been a fan going back to around 1990. I watched my team die while yours got two different runs. But you're absolutely spot on. Fandom isn't a choice and even when your team breaks your heart and you scream that you're done, we come back to them like some kind of abused partner because at the end of the day, we love them and hope for better the next year. Okay, that was harsh, and I don't want to make light of spousal abuse, because that's not cool - but damn if it doesn't feel like that sometimes. We love our teams and we cheer for those who beat up on our rivals. But we also know that they will come back and surprise us again and give us something to look forward to, and we can't quit, ever.
I honestly didn't know how it work, but my first thought was that Denver fans would start thinking that it was the O-line's fault if Russell wasn't happy, or wasn't doing well. I only say that because it seemed to be a consistent complain in Seattle, and that was when Wilson was probably more mobile as a younger QB. We didn't have to search hard for the big winner in the Wilson trade. It was neither the Seahawks nor the Broncos. The big winner of the Wilson trade was Perna, all along.
Man, sucks to be a broncos fan after Wilson…..they apparently had such a great O-line, speaking of which it’s a shame because Wilson is all they talk about. Never hear anybody mention the stellar blocking
The Russell Wilson trade did not "destroy" the Broncos. Teams have QB situations all the time that don't pan out. I can name a dozen off the top of my head. The 49ers gave up three 1st round picks and a 3rd rounder for Trey Lance. Were they destroyed by that? No...they were in the Super Bowl last year.
Considering the first clip I ever saw of Perna was on Grossi's channel doing the 'now we have Russ, he'll carry us to the super bowl' bit a couple years back, it feels like we've come full circle
You merely adopted the life of pulling for a bad team. For you, hope plays out over a few games. Gaze into the soul of a Dolphins fan and know real despair. For us, bad has been decades. For us, hope played out over years. It was drawn into exquisite perfection this year as it swelled to the unparalleled crescendo of a total collapse losing the division in the final game, and the first playoff game to become the franchise with the longest playoff drought despite having apparently every tool and good choice we could hope for. You merely adopted being a fan of a bad team. We were born in it, molded by it. Fins up. 🐬
I like Russell Wilson. Seems like a goober but also a really nice, well meaning guy. That being said, I will always love the pain he brought the Broncos and their fans. Signed, a lifelong Chiefs fan. (No amount of SB wins will erase 3+ decades of built up disdain I have for Denver)
I remember watching the Chiefs the season before they got Reid as their HC and noticed that they had 10 pro bowlers on that team despite not having a good record. I knew that they were going to be scary with a good head coach. Hindsight being 20/20, I hate how right I was
@@maxp2305 always had such a solid D and quick as hell skill guys. Especially some pretty great RBs. But no one that could sling it with the tops in the league. Mahomes needs a support cast, but a top 5 QB is the only way you make it to final 4. The verdict is still out on Brock Purdy
I love that the Bills are one of your side pieces. Different kinds of crying over here but we will always embrace the big Rich. He's our comedic sugar daddy. Forged in failure, bonded in pain. Feel like I'm at a terminal illness support group. It helps.
I get a lot of things wrong about football. But I thought Russell was clearly washed in Seattle. The trade, for me, was mind-boggling. I didn't think he was an NFL starter and the Broncos gave away the farm. Its difficult to accept, but the fact is that some teams are run by completely incompetent people. This is true in all aspects of society, where there are people in very high positions who have no business being there.
People seem to forget that seattle has been in rebuild mode the past couple season. We won more games then we were projected so everyone thinks we’re a competing team but we were projected max 5 wins 2 years ago. Also our offense is not the reason we lost games. So getting rid of russ isn’t why we haven’t made the playoffs
16:30 As a Niners fan, Russell Wilson in his prime, was the ultimate luck QB. And by that, I mean that if luck is a skill, then Russ had that skill maxed out. He never put up great numbers. He spent a lot of games being as effective as Tim Tebow... But Russ was like the GT-R version of Tebow, very Tebow-like with a crazy knack for extending and making plays at the most opportune times (only like, you know, Russ could actually pass with accuracy...also I am pretty sure this maxed out skill started to degrade at the end of superbowl XLIX). It could be maddening/ugly to watch, but being on the other side, you would always be worried if the game was close in the 4th quarter.

Money well spent far as I am concerned for the hilarious situation that is unfolding for the Steelers. But hey, "Steeler's Country, Let's get Rusty!"
I feel you on the raspy voice Perna. Whatever is ripping through the Front Range right now got you, me, and half the staff at my shop. Feel better soon!
Banger video, holy fuck. As a Seattle resident and Seahawks fan, it will feel good to bounce back from this. I promise it.
The trade was just the first part, the extension is what really killed it. But the cherry was telling him he was cut months before cutting him.
Every so often, I go back and watch the video of you celebrating the broncos trading for Russell Wilson…that is truly a piece of modern art
Oh Brandon, you poor poor fool, you still have Sean Payton.
THE. RIDE. NEVER. ENDS!
The Broncos are now and forever cursed…. I wish them mediocrity forever.
I'm sorry for your pain, but you are the funniest SOB on UA-cam when you're miserable. 😂
As a Chiefs fan living in Denver, your channel makes me soooooo happy.
So this is what I have to look forward to next off-season in Cleveland.
Just remember: Watson was perfect in the last half he played and beat Baltimore.
Deshawn won 4 out of the 5 games he played.
Every time I'm about to feel bad for Bronco fans...I remember the Avalanche and Nugs also recently won a title...this is the universe in balance.
Who else is watching this as a Steelers fan 😅
There’s something about watching a man express the emotions externally about a football team that I feel internally about 90% of my life choices is sooooooo satisfying. Subscribed!
The funniest part of this trade is that when he finally started playing well they got rid of him
I was so happy about the Russ trade that I bought my first Gamer, a Blue on Orange #3 to ware to the Monday Night Opener in Seattle.
All of it
11:41 this man has aged 8 years in 2 years. 🤣
Long Time Seahawks fan, you are very correct and Im convinced that General Managers only saw box scores and highlight plays weekly and not the huge first down droughts that he went thru in almost every game.
What are teams scouting departments doing? They had to see it.
4:23 airplane
I’ll believe and hope with you Perna! Hope you feel better and good luck to us broncos fans!
tying that happy gilmore joke into russ’ insane contract together with the ‘price is wrong bitch’ is something that shouldnt go unnoticed or overlooked in how smart and funny it was. good shit brandon.
The Parodox That Is Russell Wilson is one of your best bits.
Right on.
Bro was a king in Seattle. He should have never left. I shed no tears for this dude.
Yep,
Just STFU and realize the team made you
18:20 the constant voice cracks 😂😂😂
Brandon i was not mentally prepared for that 11:24 😂
Dolphins fan here. Love your content. Good luck to yall broncos
I want to send a shoutout to Johnny, the whole Perna's Russ experience montage was a thing of beauty
When you mentioned drafting Jay Cutler at the end let me mention, as a bears fan, I related exactly to your feelings in this video when he left us. He cost way more than he was worth but with more playoff performance to hide his other flaws
I was waiting for this video since I first heard the news... Time to watch a man go through the 5 stages of grief in a 20 minute span.
Excellent video 😤 I love the long form deep dives and retrospectives.
Nine-tenths of the time during the past two years Russel Wilson was the only person getting anything done for the Broncos, and that includes the work done by Coach Payton. This is a franchise destroying, short-sighted, myopic move. Have fun watching the barn burn down.
Seeing the patriots Christmas Eve game on here was something tbh, as a pats fan, Mr. Perna, I’m sorry for your loss
As another Broncos Fan, starting in 1973 through now and onward I have a serious question: "Why hasn't the GM had his butt lit up over that screwed up contract extension?" 😈
the side by side 11:38 comparison between you now and 2 years younger just showcases what the past 2 seasons has done to any broncos fan
That montage was amazing. Happy to say I was here every step of the way 😂❤
It's like all the sadness and rage of Tree watching the Steelers lose in the playoffs to Cleveland but stretched into two years. And I must say, it was *chef's kiss*
As a (name redacted)/Commanders fan, the rant about fandom hits hard…as does the “side pieces” line.
From one suffering fan to another, I salute you, good sir. Cling to the hopeium; it makes the dark nights warmer. 😢😂
As a saints fan I would love to see Sean Payton finish what he started with Jamies Winston
best episode in quite a while! happy for you
As someone who has no feelings whatsoever toward the Broncos, I lament the end of this era and the great content that came from it. RIP 🙏
Great video, thanks for the content Brandon!
As a huge broncos fan and not that big a fan of wilson u cant blame him for everything... The Oline was horrible too
Chiefs fan here.
They were competitive last year. But Sean Payton isn't a QB whisperer, he's a screamer.
I hope this makes you smile Brandon… I’m 45 and I’m a lifelong Titans fan. You’re not entirely alone.
First video I was able to watch after my superbowl heartbreak. Love you, Brandon.
9:00 Damn 😢
You merely adopted the life of pulling for a bad team.
For you, hope plays out over a few games.
Gaze into the soul of a Dolphins fan and know real despair. For us, bad has been decades. For us, hope played out over years. It was drawn into exquisite perfection this year as it swelled to the unparalleled crescendo of a total collapse losing the division in the final game, and the first playoff game to become the franchise with the longest playoff drought despite having apparently every tool and good choice we could hope for.
You merely adopted being a fan of a bad team. We were born in it, molded by it.
Fins up. 🐬
Perna is so funny and such a great writer but man, this is his best ever. Brilliant stuff...
I hate that I now can't shop at Walmart for at least 5 years because them low prices are gonna be as high as the Rockies now
I like Russell Wilson. Seems like a goober but also a really nice, well meaning guy. That being said, I will always love the pain he brought the Broncos and their fans. Signed, a lifelong Chiefs fan. (No amount of SB wins will erase 3+ decades of built up disdain I have for Denver)
It's a front, dummy.
Patrik roasting Russel Wilson is still my highlight.
I love that the Bills are one of your side pieces. Different kinds of crying over here but we will always embrace the big Rich. He's our comedic sugar daddy. Forged in failure, bonded in pain. Feel like I'm at a terminal illness support group. It helps.
Keep up the good fight Perna!!
Russell Wilson may be gone, but don’t be fooled: The Ride Never Ends.
I’d go as far to say the Watson fleece haul was bigger than the Walker trade. Crazy how wrong everyone was🤯
You’d be an idiot. The NFL and Injury has nothing to do with winning a trade. The Browns were also better than the Texans.
The goomars bit was comedy gold
As a Broncos fan near Seattle, I can confirm that the space needle is full of Heroin.
😂 I'm out here too, this was funny!
Someone listened to Mike Kliss on 104.3 the fan morning show yesterday! 😂 Glad you brought up the Hershel Walker take
As a Seahawks fan, I feel for you! I’m just happy other people finally realize he’s an egomaniac. We lost the LOB cuz none of them liked Russ and Pete
1:40 exactly how i describe being a cowboys fan. I am STUCK with them for life no matter what I do
People seem to forget that seattle has been in rebuild mode the past couple season.
