The first I ever heard of Esquerita was a review of one of his albums claiming that the record company signed him because they thought "Well, Little Richard's half crazy. This guy's totally nuts so he should sell twice as many records!"

You'll pay $1,000 for Esquerita's Capital LP. Please, please listen to his music, it still sounds absolutely volcanic.

Love seeing Esquerita getting some respect. But, this video would be much better if his music was included. I have 3 of Esquerita's CDs but to most viewers they don't have a clue as to how his playing influenced Little Richard.

There was a Chittlin circuit in Paris France too. My grandmother, Dora (Hamlin) Edwards at that time, in the early 50s, owned a small jazz club called the Ringside. It was also a boxing ring. Bobbie Dawson was showcased there. Grandma Dora was friends with Billie Holliday and Eartha Kitt. Matter fact my father, Dorsey Randolph, had a crush on E K. 😂😂I’m not tech astute, so I don’t know how to upload photos. I’m not name dropping either; celebrities are just humans, like anyone else.

If you listen to Esquerita's singing, Little Richards did a direct imitation of him .

This was way more informative than that b.s. they put in that documentary for Richard on CNN. It literally only mentions that they met & he influenced his look. Then changed the subject super quick.

Around 1950 Little Richard recorded 8 sides for RCA. Issued on two, 7" Extended Play 45 RPM Records {I had one of these.} This music has been reissued on CD. Long before Richard recorded for Specialty. These were in a somewhat typical style for their time, & not the, "forceful," style of, "Tutti Frutti," which was itself based on a ribald club song, with, `cleaned up lyrics:' `Tutti Fruity, Good Booty!' & so on ~}. 😁😷😳💥💫👆
