    • Avoid sugar and corn syrup
    • Avoid boxed and processed food, cans should be limited
    • Avoid complex preservatives & coloring agents
    • Avoid cheap meat & eggs

Choosing your restaurant & dish wisely makes a big difference, some restaurants will even prepare you something somewhat "clean" and healthy if you ask for it specifically. The best thing of course is to go out to eat as little as possible.

I found that when you buy healthy foods it's even cheaper.
But maybe it's different here in europe. When I travelled to the US I found that it's really hard to find good food there.
Also when you start eating healthy and you unaddict from bad food, bad food will discust you.

Couldn't agree more. I'm from the UK so we don't exactly have a reputation as the healthiest European country. However whenever I've traveled to the States I'm shocked at how much worse it is there. Junk food in shops and restaurants is really pushed on it's citizens, to the point it's almost sinister. At least in the few different states I've visited. Also the advertising is crazy! I can't believe some of it is even legal! It's a wonder they aren't all obese, I think I would be if I lived there.

I do think healthier food is a bit more expensive in the U.S. but it's still manageable, especially with local farmers markets and more health food stores cropping up. Junk food is WAY pushed here, but it doesn't mean you have to eat it just cause it's being pushed on people. I also noticed that after eating a healthy diet for quite some time that junk food actually tastes quite strange trying it again.

If you start eating mindfully, you will start to enjoy simple and subtle tastes, and over time you will develop sensitivity for those. Then things like pizza, diary and so on will become overwhelming to your senses, and there won't be desire for similar food.
When you discover that you can put olive in your mouth, close your eyes and really feel all beauty of it's taste, the whole new world will open up for you

Filip Djurkovic I tried to keep eating like shit (pizza, pasta, burgers, chips, soda and so on) but working on my awareness has made it basically impossible.
After a single day of returning to my old, unhealthy diet, I feel so groggy and tired and bloated, I can't wait to eat better the next day. The key for me has been awareness over the day and tons of research, so I can just remind myself how it feels and what actually happens in my body when I poison it with wheat, sugar and dairy.

    • @filipdjurkovic5909
      @filipdjurkovic5909 6 років тому +1

MelleBreak Well, gluten may not be problem for you, because everyone is different. I sometimes make my own bread from whole grain barley flour and water. And I eat oatmeal almost every day.
You see, both oats and barley contain gluten, but I don't have any problems. Just listen to your body, it will tell you.
But your body may be overwhelmed by unhealthy foods, so you cannot spot the signs. Then first purify your sistem with vegetables, nuts, meats and fruits (remove sugars, grains, diery, potato and rice). Then after two to three months try to bring back some grains, but keep it low. Anyways, I still avoid diary and wheat no metter what. It realy makes me sick

Dont get depressed by cutting out all this stuff!! You can make ALL of your favorite foods from WHOLE FOODS PLANT BASED ingredients. Even from raw stuff. You can still eat pizza, cake, icecream etc. Just make them with proper whole food ingredients!! THIS IS A SKILL!! I eat all organic, plant based, within the guidelines mentioned in the video 99% and these days I can eat AS MUCH CAKE, ICECREAM, PIZZA AS I WANT and all the other good stuff. I make all my food whole foods, sugar free, low heat cooked. You can make cakes with zero sugar and zero trashy ingredients. Its fucking amazing. Just get educated on it. UA-cam is full of this. Just look for "whole food plant based ->name of the food you want

I agree with most of the foods that you said to avoid. However, I believe that unprocessed soy beans in moderation can be really good in lieu of allergic reactions to them. This is because soy beans have quite a bit more protein than any other bean or legume. It also has a really great amino acid profile as well as a decent amount of most essential vitamins and minerals. So, I would be hard-pressed to give up soy simply because it is literally the easiest way to get protein for someone on a plant-based diet, as I am. Moderation is important too though, of course. It's not something for every day, and you should eat a variety of different beans and legumes. Also, given that soy beans are a legume, they are also associated with cultures where the elderly tend to live longer than in other places. Regular consumption of legumes is one of the biggest dietary factors that correlate with longevity of life. I recommend going to Cronometer and typing a one cup serving of soy beans to see how much nutrition is available in them compared to other types of beans and legumes. If they agree with your body, I think they're an excellent addition to the diet. But I also recommend avoiding processed soy that comes in almost everything. Also, if you do eat it, be sure that it's organic and non-gmo, as most soy is genetically modified.

    • @TheDiamondNet
      @TheDiamondNet 6 років тому +3

Note: Cronometer is also good for finding hidden trans fats. As long as a food has less than .5 grams per serving, the companies can list the amount as 0 grams per serving. If you find any "partially hydrogenated" anything, then it probably has them. But if you want to know for sure how much trans fat something has, type it into Cronometer. You should have fewer than two grams of trans fats per day, or ideally none at all. So, it's very easy to go past that limit of 2 grams (about 20 calories worth), if you eat foods with unreported trace amounts of trans fats. Trans fats are probably one of the least healthy things you can put into your body.

Can you explain what's wrong with plain, black coffee? I understand caffein addiction definitely isn't ideal, but as far as nutritional value, black coffee actually has several benefits. One major one being that it activates the body's natural antioxidant processes, and is actually one of the strongest antioxidants out there... it's also been found in many studies that coffee drinkers live 2-3 years longer on average than non coffee drinkers. But I'm open to the other side if someone can present some valid info to the contrary 🙂

Be honest with yourself, are you drinking coffee for its antioxidants, or for the energy boost it provides? What after it fades, is it nice to deal with the crash? What when some time goes by and you haven't been drinking coffee? Withdrawal syndrome, restlesness, subtle nervousness and lack of focus.
I'd say you can drink coffee for the rest of your life if you are willing to put up with the negative symptoms and you aren't shooting to maximize mental wellbeing. But what do I know.

    • @morriganlestrange3853
      @morriganlestrange3853 3 роки тому

Disclaimer: I'm a huge coffee drinker, and have no intention of giving it up in the near future. The coffee bean has huge environmental supply problems right now, and is probably going to become increasingly impossible to obtain in a few years. There's such a stress on the industry that dirt is often used as a filler for ground coffee, and mold is notorious to grow in many popular brands. Also, due to the supply issues thanks to climate change, the highest quality species are becoming harder and harder to grow. I think there are a few good videos about that here on UA-cam. So yeah...I think coffee is inherently a wonderful plant, but I fear its quality if often severely questionable these days, and it's probably going to get even worse in the next decade or so.

Short summary of what to avoid
    Top foods groups to avoid:
    *Corn
    *wheat
    *dairy
    *sugar
*soy (avoid most soy from my research over 95% on the market is GMO and heavily pesticided )
In my opinion non-GMO and organic Soy is ok in moderation
Meaning-less labels that try to trick you into believing their are healthy (marking schemes)
    *cage-free
    *vegetarian fed
    *hormone + antibiotic free
    *all-natural
*fat free, low fat (these often contain high sugar or nasty chemicals)
    *low sugar, few calories
In general read the labels and aim for few ingredients as well as things you recognize, not fancy chemical names)
    Labels that are usually trustworthy:
    *organic
    *grass-fed
    *gluten-free
    *soy-free
    *non-GMO
(here again read the label to make sure you're not being tricked)
    Avoid ALL:
    *processed meats
    *pre-made salad dressings
*corn fed meat/ vegetarian fed chicken
    *unnatural butter substitutes
    *bread
    *all sorts of dairy
    *pasteurized fruit juices
Leo mentioned some other things so watch the video to find out what foods are actually good

@Leo : This is great advice.
    Couple of questions :
    1) What are clear benefits of eating all this organic and healthy food over regular (not extremely healthy) food ? Like we get to live 2-3 more years or something ?
    2) What if a person not able to afford organic food for his entire family (as you know it's comparatively expensive) ?
    3) What if I don't feel sleepy or lazy at all after eating wheat tortilla made fresh from bakery? what if I am from different country and tortilla is regular food type we eat in routine ? If we don't eat wheat tortilla and white tortilla is bad already then what kind of tortilla is good ? or quit tortilla and die unhappy by eating food you hate all the time ?

When I was younger (~20s), I was eating so much processed food and I wasn't paying attention to what I eat, I was in a good shape, no health problems, now, in my 30s I had to deal with the consequences. It took me a couple of years to restore my gut health and not only.

I used to follow what you said in the video & putting rules around food, but unfortunately I ended up having eating disorders. Being in a restricted diet & cutting some food groups will made the person crave more food. I think the key important is the balance and eating everything you want. If you allow yourself to eat what every you want automatically your craving for processed food will decreased and the body will ask for more healthy and nutrition food.
There are two books that changed my view around food:
    1) Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole, Elyse Resch.
    2) Health at Every Size by Linda Bacon.

I've studied nutrition independently for many years, and everything you've said is completely accurate to my knowledge, which is very impressive! There's so much nonsense, myth, and outright lies in the area of nutrition, I don't find someone who can speak so flawlessly about the topic often. You know more than most doctors, which I find sad. That being said, I don't eat the way I know is best all of the time, because I'm still at the level where I feel like I need willpower to implement it and it's very difficult; especially when addicted to convenience and sugars.

Great video Leo, I feel like it's about time we went back to basics, this path is hard for me as I'm the only one in my circle to follow it, after listening to you and doing meditation everyday and working on myself these past few years, I feel like I have unlocked secret information inside, like dis-identifying from the mind, and realise my emotions are illusionary, this is info I feel and know, but cannot express to people that suffer with the mind, I say to them 'have you tried meditation' but I'd get a reply like "meditation just isn't me" or "I just can't do that" having such mind and body awareness is empowering and the best thing to happen to me, but to be in bliss while the minds of people I care about deal with anxiety depression and so on is bitter sweet

Hey I agree, but this is why you should avoid soy: most of it you find on the market is genetically engeneered as well as full of pesticides, fungicides and herbisides (over 90% of the soy on the market). From my research soy can be healthy but make sure it is organic plus gmo free. Many of the studies showing how toxic soy is to your body use the low quality, crappy and toxic soy. I hope this helps.

Having worked at a grocery store for years, I've become pretty skeptical when it comes to health food. I've met too many people age 90+ who smoke, drink, and eat whatever they like. I've become convinced that the secret to health and longevity is to know what's good for you, and do it. Worrying about what other people tell you is good for you will get you killed.
That said, you have to learn what's good for you somewhere, so there's nothing wrong with listening to food advice videos. Just don't worry yourself to death over it. Anxiety over grease and sugar is far more harmful to your health than grease and sugar.

But your observation with the 90+ yo smokers is not reliable... you dont meet the smokers that died at age 50 when theyre 90, cuz by then they are under the dirt. Some people are robust, some are not.

Happy Broccoli I didn't meet the health nuts who died at 50 either...
But it is true, we're not all the same, and some people really do just have incredibly resilient genetics, while others are frail. That's why it's so important to do what's good for *you*, not what someone else tells you is good for you.

eXpas04 Eating an all organic vegetarian diet doesn't mean you have a high quality of life either. I've seen a lot of people suffering from anxiety and stress issues because they obsessively worry about their food instead of just relaxing and enjoying their meal.

Depending on what you want to experience, i'm pretty sure the direct experience of the one eating anything it want's is much different from the one eating healthy, it might not tell about your longevity, it might too tho, of course, food is not what tell's your destiny, but it can alter it somehow for sure :)

Just wanted to mention this because i eat peanut butter daily and will change this due to the inspiration of your video. Most cheap peanut butters in jars have hydrogenated oils to prevent seperation and are higher in sugar. More expensive ones dont have this ingredient.
I have slowly over the years started cutting this stuff out. No dairy, sugary drinks or deli meats for about 6 years. I started doing all organic fruits and vegetables a year ago and that is not expensive at all. I am still looking to clear up a few things like the dressing which has soybean oil and the peanut butter. I also am guilty of buying cheap eggs and meat. But i think going from $2 to $6 for a dozen eggs is not much per week.
I also wanted to mention i very rarely use a soy product. I forgot about this when i wanted to make a big stir fry for my lunches for the week. I put tons of it on there. I love stir fry but this soy seemed like it drained my energy in that quantity. Never again.

It might be hard at first to eat healthy, but once you get creative with it, you will love it. There are soooooo many amazing delicious foods and recipes you can make that just makes you feel good in every way. Also, Vegan Gluten free Pizza is awesome! Just soak some raw cashews in water. Blend it in a blender. You have cheese! Get a none gluten flour (rice) or just a gluten free pizza base. Blend some tomatoes and lightly fried aubergines , basil in a blender. Thats your base. Add some mushroom, red and green peppers, and any other nice toppings you like, plus cashew cheese. Add some olive oil on top. There! Vegan pizza.

Hey Leo, I really appreciate your content but I can't understand why you would recommend eating sentient life forms when it is so unnecessary. It's quite selfish and egoic to consume animal products, considering the ethical and environmental consequences. A vegan diet is much more in alignment with unconditional love and altruistic living, considering that humans don't require meat to survive and can actually thrive on a purely plant-based diet.

    • @moritzkohler4861

Very straightforward informations! It would be really beneficial, in my opinion, if in the description box you linked the sources you used to gather these informations. This makes your word more powerful and the people more responsible for themselves. Thanks a lot.
