    Both great guns, subcompact is quite a bit thicker because of the double stack. I own both, the Shield is my carry gun, subc is more of a home defense/ range gun that I can also carry in the winter. The 15 and 17 round mags are a good plus for the subc, but the drawback is that even with the 12 round mag it is much harder to conceal carry over the Shield.

    I have the M&P9c (the predecessor to the M&P Subcompact). I do carry it, but with my body shape, it's probably not as good as a slimmer gun. The grip is a huge improvement on all the 2.0's in my opinion. Thanks for the review.

    I appreciate the distinction between the mags. The fact that the sc can take the 17 and 15 round mags from the larger m&p is a game changer for me. I was originally looking into the p365xl as ccw but since I already have a m&p9 in the house I think this would be a better option

  • @bdm1000
    @bdm1000 3 роки тому +1

    Nice comparison. I have those same two guns (M2.0's) but with a Performance Center Shield with the ported barrel. I had the M1.0 versions of both of these guns for many years, so knowing the Shield was a little snapier, I opted this time for the porting (though it's not a big deal). In fact, I got the PC for $327.77 new after a MIR and the SC was only $379.99 when I bought it shortly after it first came out (only a $50 difference). Mostly I wanted the PC for the trigger which has a reset slightly shorter than the SC (though you're right, the trigger return spring is noticeably more positive on the SC than even the PC version Shield. A few things I've noticed. One, they are NOT the exact same height. The SC is 4.3" and the Shield is 4.6" (when you measure from the highest point of the magazine floor plate). It should also be noted that the undercut for the trigger guards come in at the same height, so if you flip both pistols upside down and balance a pen across the two it will be level (depending on the shape of your pen). The grip of the Shield is .3" longer, and that is easily discerned stacking mine side by side. Yes, I've changed both sights to Ameriglos, but they're allegedly the same height as the factory. It should be noted that the M&P SC is shorter than a G26 in any of the latter's 12+1 configurations whether you're using a OEM +2 or even a Magpul 12-round magazine. Most people don't know that. It's literally the same exact height as a SIG P365 but it holds two more rounds (and is slightly thicker, but not as much of a difference between the SC and the Shield). I also noticed that both the trigger and the molded over travel stop are different between these two M&Ps. Both the trigger and the stop are thicker on the Shield giving it more trigger reach when the trigger breaks like you mentioned. I didn't like the way the SC broke further back, so I had to put the larger palm swell on with the beavertail on it to increase the distance. Another major difference is the cost of upgrading the triggers (going with an Apex). It's going to run a bit more upgrading the SC because you can just buy the Apex trigger only for the M2.0 Shield but not the SC (the last time I checked anyway). Moreover, the forward reset is needed more on the SC than on the Shield for most people (again making upgrading the SC even pricier). I too came from the Glock equivalents having Gen4 and Gen5 G26's and a G43. Interestingly enough, I like the grip angle slightly better on the M&P SC than the Shield or the Glock equivalents. The Shield is closer to the Glock grip angle in my opinion. In other words, I am dead on with the SC but I sometimes aim too high with the Shield (similar to a Glock). Not as high as a Glock (if you fail to cant your wrist), but somewhere in between a regular M&P and a Glock. I do find that these guns (the Shield and the SC) complement each other very well even though they obviously overlap in some ways. Depending on how tight my clothes are, how much weight I'm carrying, the time of year etc., I do reach for my Shield more often. There are also more holster options for it (if you want a holster designed especially for the 3.6" barrel). Other times I'd rather go with the SC's greater capacity, slightly more natural-pointing grip angle (I know it's technically the same, but my hands just don't point it the same way), and it's a heavier gun which absorbs the recoil a little better like you mentioned. I will also say this. Although both the PC Shield and SC have good triggers and each is superior to the other in certain respects, overall my SC is a better trigger than the PC on my Shield. Yes, the PC Shield has a slightly shorter reset and is more comfortable for me (because I hate the overtravel created by having the thinner trigger and smaller over travel stop), but when I pull both triggers side by side, I will occasionally get front sight disruption on the Shield but rarely do I ever get it on my SC. In fact, my Shield was horrible for a long time until I got a couple of thousand rounds through it, but my SC was nice out of the box. I definitely have carry guns I prefer over these, but they're also larger (P229 and PX4 Storm Compact). The M&P Shield and SC are great options, however, depending on how I'm carrying. Overall I think I like the Shield over a G43, but I think I slightly prefer a G26 over the M&P SC (but not by much). In fact, if I ever get around to upgrading the trigger to one with a forward reset, I would likely favor the M&P SC. I have about 15 years with the SC having bought my M&P40c when they first came out in 2005 or 2006, and I have about six years with Shields. I've had Glocks almost as long and you can't go terribly wrong with either. The one thing I don't like about the SC is the sloppy fit with the compact grip sleeve and the tool wiggles (it doesn't sit perfectly straight in the frame unlike most of the other M&P's I've owned). The full-size sleeve is much tighter on my sample (and the one I prefer if I'm going to put a higher capacity magazine in it. The orange front Ameriglo sights are a must for me with all my M&P's and Glocks. Lastly, I made a choice between the P365 which is sort of a hybrid of the two in some respects, but I really like the thinner Shield's feel better and I don't trust SIG striker fired pistols (especially with no safety). Only my Shield has a manual safety because it was only available that way on the base PC, but I generally prefer not having them.

Have a ruger lcp ii very concealable, 10 round mag and easier and more accurate, to me, than the shield or glocks i have tried. Great review and much needed. Thank you for sharing and be safe.

      @@mattschroeder3432 The types of clothes you wear will also depend on where you live. If you live in a usually cold state and wear thick clothes and multiple layers most months out of the year, the Subc will be perfect. If you live in Phoenix, AZ like me, you will wear less clothes most of the time, therefore the Shield will be much easier to conceal carry.

    Confused ->
    What other s&p 9 m2.0 models are there? I'm a little cofused about what model people are meaning what they keep saying" M&P 9 m2.0" I think the one I've been after is the shield, but now the SC sounds good to me now too. The biggest thing for me against the SC is the less grip finger real-estate. I also like how the grip of the shield lays flatter for CCW and is more of a gentle ellipse shape, although I've held one, and it is a little awkward, but makes up for it in concealment points!

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  3 роки тому

      Thank you. The M&P is offered in the "original" (sometimes called the M1.0 though S&W does not call it that) and the M2.0. Furthermore it is offered in an assortment of sizes and calibers (9mm, .40, .45). The Shield is part of the M&P lineup but usually when people say just "M&P", of any generation, they are referring to the double-stack varieties.

    Good comparison video ..Nice lineup ..but getting a little confusing..... the sub-compact M&P has been called the 9c in the 1.0 series ,, also stamped on the slide,, and to me ,seemed like the frame was shorter in the web ... also with the 1.0 came with 3 backstraps....now comes with 4 with the 2.0 ,and not stamped 9c on the slide,, at least on this one in video. ... difference?? Also the .45 still stays with the larger frame.
    referred to as compact w/4" barrel .. except all 2.0's have been added reinforcement metal in the frame front ... (heard it was from flexing and even splitting) .. the compact definitely feels larger than the sub compact all having 3.6" barrels .. How many models do the have??

    M&P 2.0 subcompact is basically equivalent to Glock 26 model, while the Shield is similar to Glock 43 model. Shield is a true sub compact gun while M&P subcompact is a back up gun. I love Shield because of his size instead of capacity.

    Is this gun available for civilian purchase or is only for law enforcement? I live in FL btw?

      These are all civilian legal in most of the US and are normally commonly found in local shops.

    Prefer the subcompact although it is a bit heavier, its also easier to shoot well.

    • @chriswesterman5331

      Have you shot both? In the video at the beginning and end it looked like the subcompact had more recoil than the shield, even though it is heavier. I was thinking about getting the subcompact because it is heavier and I figured would have less recoil. But it seems I was wrong.

    • @jackbauer5511

      @@chriswesterman5331 The subcompact has less recoil because it is heavier than the shield. The shield is about a quarter of an inch thinner.

    While I am a Glock fan, I chose this model S&W M2.0 Subcompact because it offers a little more in value over Glock. I like that it comes with 12 rd mags with finger extensions as standard. The Glock 26/27 do not offer this. Also, they cost less than Glock from my local shop. I can still use the larger mags like Glock but Glock does not come with the sleeves to accommodate larger mags like S&W.

    You are comparing a single stack thin deep conceal weapon with a double stack that allows multiple magazine capacities. I just don't think these guns are comparable. I bought a Shield for concealed carry but I traded it for a Glock 42. I live in Florida and I needed something that could be a pocket carry as I wear T-shirts most of the year.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  3 роки тому +1

      The difference is exactly why this comparison was so requested. Mostly from the concept of "can I get away with the single-stack", "What do I lose", "Do I gain enough in to overcome the capacity loss", etc.

    I think it's funny that all you guys show the camera that the gun is checked and unloaded you know you're the one handling the firearm I'm not even in the room so why do I care if it's loaded or not if you want to shoot your finger off go for it but I would assume that most people would know that before you started the video that you safety checked your firearms just wastes time in the video is all I'm saying we could be talking about the features on the firearm instead of talking about whether or whether or not it's loaded Hillary I mean I'm sorry besides I was taught how to handle both loaded and unloaded firearms properly from the time I was 6

      We (and other channels like ours) do that for a purpose, it is because there are different reasons people come to UA-cam. Some come purely for entertainment (which is great), but many are new to firearms and come to UA-cam to learn. As safe handling procedures are the most important factor of dealing with firearms, reinforcing it is important. An inexperienced shooter viewing our videos (or others with similar mindset) will be reminded of the need to be very aware of the state of the weapon in addition to following the other safety procedures. Every once in a while you hear of somebody being shot by an "unloaded gun" (obviously it wasn't) or during the cleaning procedure. Hopefully reinforcing the need to clear a weapon that is going to be handled for a reason other than actually firing it may educate somebody and prevent a tragedy.

    Unloaded? Who cares? That's what you should have checked before wasting time on the video because we don't care if it's loaded or not.
