Now that was fascinating! What do you think of Soar?

As a VR consumer, having companies use this tech to stream stuff to VR users sounds very cool.

You know what this will end up being used for, right ;)

this is really cool... boxing matches could be recorded and watch in vr from any angle. can't wait to be able to record memorable events and rewatch from any angle in the future.

This is SUPER cool, though I really think we're only a few years away from this tech being way simplified and subscription-free. Imagine a phone app that connects the cameras of several lidar-enabled or 3D-capturing phones simultaneously (as well as some depth-sensing lidar cameras potentially). The app could sync the cameras to a "volumetric" scene and have 3D video streaming compiled into a VR scene. Missing data could be simply blank, but it could also be theoretically scaled up to a concert-level, where everyone filming with their phones is contributing to the VR scene that others could witness live, in VR.

Was just thinking of something like this this morning but not full 360 like that, single 180deg camera maybe that has depth info with something like lidar that lets you move around with limited movement, like a next gen webcam for use with AR

10k a month... eek. That is 120k a year! so basically same cost as more expensive solutions just stretched over a period of time!
Pretty sure there are open-source solutions that don't require subscriptions but do similar things. Also why factor in the cost of PC? do they sell you the PC too?

In the near future, a musician could broadcast to a virtual space with an unlimited # of fans paying $.

That would have been cool for live events like music or comedians. However..
10K per month subscription? Why make it that high. Seems like a huge barrier to entry.

You didnt ask them about the quite obvious adult use-case ;) "if you wanna watch more people.. and you can also go down lower" xD

should bring out a consumer friendly version bit cheaper

It's clear this is for bigger budget studios/developers to get them TRAPPED into a ecosystem with no way out. Whats the bet the hardware turns into a brick once you stop that subscription and decide to do things in-house instead with your own software solution!!!!!

Is it 10k per month because of the size of the files to store ? How many petabytes do you need for one minute of recording 😂

    • @comdudeskip
      @comdudeskip 2 роки тому

At their stated 10 megabits per second, I calculate a recording at around 72 megabytes per minute.

I don't think it costs 10k$ to a few GB

Yeah if your a developer and your project is going to be in development for 5years; your looking at 600K USD for this kit excluding initial cost of hardware!
I think it be cheaper to go with a in-house open-source solution (many exist) which produce similar results.

And he knows how outrageous it is; that's why he keeps going "just a monthly subscription" instead of answering the question. It's one thing to be expensive, another to be slimy about it.
