anyone's who's still listening, I can't get over how they look at eachother as musicians, they're smiles as the beat and sounds connect its absolutely amazing to see it
Well I guess he had to pick from a couple songs and this was the only one he was familiar with so they just winged it and thats why they're laughing cause it's just a total out of the box song for them
Coco Rosie I dunno, I mean Hozier's "Problem" cover, The 1975's "What makes you beautiful", Sam Smith's "When I was your man", Birdy's "Let [her] go", Thirty Seconds to Mars' "Stay", and Bastille's "We can't stop" (I could go on, but you get the point) are all pretty damn good as well. This definitely belongs in the conversation, but there are so many good ones that each make a good argument for the best cover.
I think he can see he's producing liquid gold when he looks over to a band mate and just smiles uncontrollably. This is musical genius, simple, yet intricate; technically perfect, yet clings on to this rubato messy feel that makes you fall even deeper in love with the music.
Ben Howard, India Bourne and Chris Bond nailed this cover. There's a haunting sound to it, which is very good. I like it and if other folk don't like it that's their choice. No hate going on here, just an ear for good music and the enjoyment of seeing three brilliant musicians enjoying the moment...........
Brilliant! Flawless transition of a pop song. I still can't believe he was actually able to do this. He was cracking smiles and giggles during his singing. The crew was also cracking. Hahaha!
Literally heard this for the first time yesterday on Radio 1, can’t believe it’s ten years old! Such an amazing cover, love how much Ben is smiling and laughing throughout
Whoa a lot of Ben Howard hate. I love this and I think that his music is beautiful. People like to attack musicians if they don't like their music or voice... unfortunately, there aren't millions of eyes judging you, watching your every move in your job but if there were... wouldn't you appreciate the screaming teenagers leaving the fuck alone? You wouldn't go to a football match and start cursing at football... It's like.. watch a game of Tennis if you hate it so much.
Justin Brady jealousy? seriously? thats the best you can come up with? while i think this cover is shit, wants to be "artistic" and fails miserably, opinions aside, why would anyone be jealous of anything?
It is my absolute favourite when artists I like cover songs I wouldn't normally listen to because my 11 year old sister listens to them, and then turn them into something way deeper and more profound.
For those who don’t know Ben Howard, please, I beg you, listen to all of his stuff. Every bit of it. You’ll be blown the fuck away I guarantee your life on it. Easily one of the best artists ever. It’s not even a dispute.
I love this songs .. It Gets me every time .. feeling blue butterflies .. love the interaction on stage .. smiles all over the place .. the is what happiness looks like btw great song, sweet lyrics and awsome interpretation 🦋🦋🦋🥰
SO TALENTED. This guy is AMAZING. His drummer is also playing the bass.. -No man is an island, this I know Maybe you were the ocean and I was just a stone.
So many years later I still absolutely love this cover, everyone is so incredibly talented, completely transformed the song and all clearly had great fun performing it
I love how for all his covers, the guitar pieces he writes for them, so many guitarists would kill to be able to come up with something like that for their own songs and yet he just uses it for one of his cover. - 'Hideaway' and 'Silent Night' in particular. So talented!!!
That bit from 3:04 to 3:42 is what takes this cover to another level.. The rest of the cover is awesome, bit that bit was just something else. Simple yet effective
I love this cover of it! Used to listen to Ben Howard all the time! Glad I found this again! Please like this comment to remind me to listen to this banger everytime thank you 🩵
Listening November 4th 2019 first time I've heard him cover this song ❤️ I love so much more then the original version he does this song ❤️ so much justice I really appreciate hearing this right now great Job
i think it was just supposed to be a little bit of fun hence the laughter at every chorus , anyway it does show his talent, hes covered song that oculd not be further from his usual style and made it cool and original . i like the song and ben
Saw him live in 2012 shortly after he did this. People were trying to get him so sing the song and he said, "not going to lie, but I fucking hate that song." So yeah that's that wrapped up ;)
I have just come back from Ben's concert in London, it was outside on a hill, in the rain, but still great. Thought I would give this a revisit. July 2023
I don't know why I just read this now, but it's mine too. His voice is a guilty pleasure. He puts Carly Rey Jepson to shame. Most of the time I think the original song is always better, but this is definitely an exception.
I would love to see the development of this. Did they spend a whole night working it out, or just 10 minutes in the back of the van? How much of this genius is calculated precision arrangement and how much is improvised on the fly from basic knowledge of the song? Regardless, to make CRJ sound like Joy Division is some kind of wonderful. As for the drummer - playing kick, hats, snare and TWO bass parts at the same time... what kind of wizardry is THAT? Definitely top 5 covers of all time for me.
Lets all show some appreication to the guy who is playing bass and drums at the same damn time. Pure talent.
shaggy to bad he left the band :(
Nina pf Yeah I was literally just thinking "hey, I saw Ben this week and there was a different drummer". Do you know why he left?
Nina pf Really?? That's sad news :(
Ben/Chris/India was a magical combination..
Kearress I've seen them recently and the new band is great though :) (India is still there of course)

I remember listening to this on loop 11 years ago......came back to listen....now I'm stuck in the loop again
plot twist, its been an 11 year loop u never came out
8 years have passed and it’s still my favourite cover of any song.
SAME here!!!! I still listen to it in 2021! LOVE IT
Fantastic cover, try the DMA's cover of Chers believe, every bit as good
Same here too 👍
Fully agree pure class
We love Ben!
anyone's who's still listening, I can't get over how they look at eachother as musicians, they're smiles as the beat and sounds connect its absolutely amazing to see it
Well I guess he had to pick from a couple songs and this was the only one he was familiar with so they just winged it and thats why they're laughing cause it's just a total out of the box song for them
That room is filled with some very talented people
Listening? 10 years on and its still on loop in my head all day
He's new music has been very poor I think, used to be sooo much better
She has the BIGGEST crush on him lol
3 years and still remains one of my favourite live lounge covers of al time
yh got to be
+Tilly Von Turtle (Thulani Kimbugwe) Same. Love a few others, but this is the best. Ben is the best.
It's aite
Me too, all time favourite in fact. :)

The way he smiles while singing literally gave me so much life
Antonio Race nb
Ok, so i''m 10 years late to the party, why have i only just found this? Lost track how many times i've listened to it.....One of the best covers x
Heard this on radio 1 today…the best live lounge over heard…and made a terrible song very very good.
Welcome to the party
The original is shit
Hey yeah, I'm 11 years late but baby I am here now and I am NOT leaving and nobody could make me.
I can easily say that this is the best cover in The Live Lounge EVER.
+NiceLittleQueenie I'd beg to differ
Tasnuva Ashraf Which cover do you think is the best one?
I don't like ranking anything as ''Best'' :3
But I do like the problem cover by hozier and there are some pretty good ones as well
+NiceLittleQueenie it definetly up there but also nick mulvey we are never getting back together and slaves shutdown
Daniel Królik
No .-. too much acrobatics going on vocally imo
this is the best live lounge cover of all time
Coco Rosie I dunno, I mean Hozier's "Problem" cover, The 1975's "What makes you beautiful", Sam Smith's "When I was your man", Birdy's "Let [her] go", Thirty Seconds to Mars' "Stay", and Bastille's "We can't stop" (I could go on, but you get the point) are all pretty damn good as well. This definitely belongs in the conversation, but there are so many good ones that each make a good argument for the best cover.
Dick Bütt bastille's locked out of heaven cover too
Look his cover of Dancing in The Dark and Figure 8 (he also included Twice by Little Dragon in the song)
Dude check out his cover of Hideaway!!! So good
It's fantastic, but check out Linkin Park's cover of Rolling in the Deep - A-MAZ-ING!!
he's got the cheekiest smile! it's infectious, god damn it Ben..
Exactly 😍😍
Someone's got a crush :) (5 yrs ago)
@@lucamorgese6340 um, I think we all do
11 Years and i still remember this and come back to hear this masterpiece of a cover thank you Ben and the Band for this
anyone else thoroughly impressed by the drummers multi-tasking skills?
As in...!
You mean how well thy bass player multi tasked
Its the bassist for me
Absolutely
Not really, drummers multi task naturally. Imagine having a tom behind you and still have to hit it in time.
I think he can see he's producing liquid gold when he looks over to a band mate and just smiles uncontrollably. This is musical genius, simple, yet intricate; technically perfect, yet clings on to this rubato messy feel that makes you fall even deeper in love with the music.
I thought he was laughing at the lyrics but I like your explanation better
He took that cheesy summer hit and made it the creepy stalker song it should be. I love him so much.
I'll never look at the song the same 🤔
🙆🏾♂️🙆🏾♂️🙆🏾♂️
Insert unneccisary commentary here (THIS)
I think that's why he was smiling, he realised how stalker he sounded.
Exactly! he took this bubblegum pop song and flipped it on it's head. Made it dark and haunting I love it so much!!
Leaving this comment so whenever someone likes it, i will come back and listen again to this masterpeace
You're welcome
242 times now 👏🏼
Let's go. Been listening to this masterpiece since it was released.
Its a great cover wlda never known it w out him
Voted number 5 in all time best live lounge today!
October 2019 and Still listening to this cover!
Great Job Ben Howard @BBC Radio 1
Bro im here RN
It just ages like fine wine
Covid 19 and listening 😢
is that guy seriously playing the bass and the drums at the same time....rock on
I saw a guy rock a bass, keyboard and kick drum at the same time. It was epic. the hand eye coordination is crazy.
They all chop and change instruments throughout songs!! Firkin amazing band!!
You could call him the..... Drum n Bass father
Both are pillars of time within music so it would make sense for the same guy to play both.
He stole the emperor's groove
... and suddenly Call Me Maybe is a beautiful and profound song. Whoa, I absolutely adore this.
he adds so meaning to the song with his emotion!
when he laughs...adorbz. where has this guy been all my life? talented as hell
Please never say "adorbz" again. Ever.
It's avs.
Courtney Timpson what is avs? and i hate all the new annoying as terms but this guy man, he brings out the 12 year old in me.
Bananasauce Avs = average.
Yes, I was being hypocritical... as a joke =)
It is adorbz though.
Bananasauce Oh it was very cute i had to smile with him :)
I’ve looked for words to comment on how good this for 9 years and I still am speechless every time
Goosebumps for 9 years, damn you Ben you beautiful human being!
Sad that India gets no recognition on any of the videos. The songs wouldn't be the same without her.
I still listen to this song at least 2/3 times a week……absolute fire 🔥
Every.. single.. day 😁
never thought i would like this song.....but this is incredible
+Sophia Jorgensen I would says that this is crazy
Wtf are you talking about fool? Everybody likes this song 🤣🤣🤣🤣
10 years old and still one of the best covers ever!
Still the best cover in the history of Live Lounge. Ben Howard being an absolute babe in this video is just the cherry on the cake
1:20 This is when he realises how awesome it sounds
Yess
@isus kist 😂😂😂
Ryan Simpson no it probably was because he can’t believe he’s doing this song, completely out of his realm.
2:19 will have women going crazy if a guy hit her with that line. Ben is awesome
because he was impressed by the drummer / bassist
Whoa a lot of Ben Howard hate. I love this and I think that his music is beautiful. People like to attack musicians if they don't like their music or voice... unfortunately, there aren't millions of eyes judging you, watching your every move in your job but if there were... wouldn't you appreciate the screaming teenagers leaving the fuck alone? You wouldn't go to a football match and start cursing at football... It's like.. watch a game of Tennis if you hate it so much.
the most perfect, succinct and accurate reply i've ever seen on yt
Definitely Raynar and p4cks. I suspect some jealousy in the haters too..
Justin Brady jealousy? seriously? thats the best you can come up with? while i think this cover is shit, wants to be "artistic" and fails miserably, opinions aside, why would anyone be jealous of anything?
The guys a genius, its a radio live cover, better than the original shite, i love his work
ben howard is the absolute truth. been listening to him for years, and will for years to come.
Ben Howard DEFINITELY made this song his own. I adore him and his music so much.
It is my absolute favourite when artists I like cover songs I wouldn't normally listen to because my 11 year old sister listens to them, and then turn them into something way deeper and more profound.
pop is art too, ben
I must come back to this song multiple times every year. Still one of my favourite covers along with Corinne Bailey Rae and Since I've been loving you
his smile makes me so happy
He makes of every song an event. It's so uncanny. Thank you Ben.
It's July 2022 and I still love this cover as much as I did when I first heard it 10 years ago!
I could be 80 years old and I'd still blush watching Ben on this video.
This man is a musical genius.
This is what a cover is supposed to sound like. Love the arrangement and the new take on the style. genius
For those who don’t know Ben Howard, please, I beg you, listen to all of his stuff. Every bit of it. You’ll be blown the fuck away I guarantee your life on it. Easily one of the best artists ever. It’s not even a dispute.
An ex introduced me to him 6 years ago. Haven't stopped listening since
Okay I will
I love this songs .. It Gets me every time .. feeling blue butterflies .. love the interaction on stage .. smiles all over the place .. the is what happiness looks like btw great song, sweet lyrics and awsome interpretation 🦋🦋🦋🥰
THIS is how you do a cover
plus his smile is really distracting... in the best way possible
6 years after I first heard this cover and still the best. So smooth!!!
SO TALENTED. This guy is AMAZING.
His drummer is also playing the bass..
-No man is an island, this I know
Maybe you were the ocean and I was just a stone.
So many years later I still absolutely love this cover, everyone is so incredibly talented, completely transformed the song and all clearly had great fun performing it
I just LOVE how he keeps smiling, like "am i really doing this right now?" love the authentic fun he seems to be having!
nobody is talking about the bass player/drummer? He's doing it simultaneously and rly great:)
He's fantastic too
Yes they are, it’s a large portion of comments you just have to engage your brain and eyes and look.
I always come back to this cover, it's amazing!
I can’t believe I’m going to see my boy Benny Howard live in two weeks !!
This needs to be on an album. I need to happily pay for the privilege of downloading it and listening to it on repeat.
After 9 years I’m still blown away buy the drumming and bass playing at the same time 🥁 🎸 ❤️
I love how for all his covers, the guitar pieces he writes for them, so many guitarists would kill to be able to come up with something like that for their own songs and yet he just uses it for one of his cover. - 'Hideaway' and 'Silent Night' in particular. So talented!!!
Amazingly talented! The cello adds so much depth, and with the guitar, and Ben's voice - wow! Thanks for this, it made my day.
I love that all 3 of them are multi tasking. Respect!
Ok, I'm in love with his smile, officially. :D
I thought I was the only one, but again I'm a guy :p

This cover is so crazy good, and makes me so happy. You are the best Ben.
Ben there is no need to completely diminish someones music career by simply performing their song
Brian Scalabrine G.O.A.T comment
Right?!!! I never knew I could love this song let alone like it. Also noting that I’ve commented on this video every year and more than once haha

God, this is an absolutely incredible cover. Even years later, I still come back to listen to it.
Literally the best cover ever. Such a beautiful take on the song.
One of my all time favorite covers! What a tune!
When Ben starts singing the chorus, he cracks a smile as if the cover is a joke. Best joke I have heard in a long time.
I love this cover of it! Used to listen to Ben Howard all the time! Glad I found this again! Please like this comment to remind me to listen to this banger everytime thank you 🩵
Their take on this song gave me Kings of Leon vibes :) And yes, huge props to that drummer/bass player
I always love when I hate a song and someone can cover it in a way that makes me love the song. This is pure genius.
Listening November 4th 2019 first time I've heard him cover this song ❤️ I love so much more then the original version he does this song ❤️ so much justice I really appreciate hearing this right now great Job
Same here! First time!!
Seen him live and so bloody amazing! I love this cover.
Apart the choice of the song, this guy has such a priceless talent.
i think it was just supposed to be a little bit of fun hence the laughter at every chorus , anyway it does show his talent, hes covered song that oculd not be further from his usual style and made it cool and original . i like the song and ben
im not hating just staing my point :)
Saw him live in 2012 shortly after he did this. People were trying to get him so sing the song and he said, "not going to lie, but I fucking hate that song." So yeah that's that wrapped up ;)
I just cant get over this. I've watched it so many times, and it amazes me, every time. Poor Carly. This is just embarrassing for her.
i agree
Exactly
He makes this song sound beautiful....amazing.
I have just come back from Ben's concert in London, it was outside on a hill, in the rain, but still great. Thought I would give this a revisit.
July 2023
his smile throughout the song is soooo cute
i have listened to this at least once a month since it was done
I dont see why theres hate going on! I just love the feel of this!
I love the band and I'm not really into rock. I love this song from Carly and he made for people not feel guilty about liking it.
You dont have to be into rock to be enjoying good music!
Love the cover! Ben Howard is still kicking it on 2024
AMAZING. Best live lounge cover ever.
This is the most genius cover ever! If you can turn that song into that wow. Well done Ben
I cannot stand this song, but his version is like god. Repeat times infinity.
The original is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me but this is actually musically great.
I don't know why I just read this now, but it's mine too. His voice is a guilty pleasure. He puts Carly Rey Jepson to shame. Most of the time I think the original song is always better, but this is definitely an exception.
Thought that was only me! Hahahaha!!!
I. Like the og a lot but lovee this
Ben, all of your songs, everything is so perfect, be it an original, or even a cover like this one. Love from India
I would love to see the development of this. Did they spend a whole night working it out, or just 10 minutes in the back of the van?
