Honestly.... I think this should be more appropriate for CCR.... The Beatles quit at a right time... they wouldn't survive the onslaught of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep purple... CCR though.... would flourish
Guns and Roses didn't die when Adler was fired. It wasn't when Rose and Slash fought. Izzy Stradlin leaving is what killed the band. He was the driving force and the writing talent that started the band. He was so intricate in the band, people forget two of the best songs out of Use Your Illusion 1&2 he not only wrote, but sang lead vocals. Hence, while just after leaving the band shortly after those albums releases, their next music video has a quick cut away shot of a sign saying, "Where is Izzy?" The dude was and still is the heart and soul of Guns and Roses. 🤘

John Lennon was assassinated in 1980 (the more well known death of the two) and George Harrison died of Lung Cancer in 2001 destroying any chance of a reunion. Although it's been theorised that Paul McCartney died in a car accident in 1966 and was replaced by a lookalike due to hidden messages in their songs. 😥
Natali Doleželová Queen never broke up though? The band had a tribute concert for Freddie a year after his death and released another album after his death, as well as some other performances. Then John Deacon left, but Roger Taylor and Brian may are still members of Queen and are touring with Adam Lambert. So Queen never broke up.
Natali Doleželová Ahh okay, I see what you mean. Yeah, that’s definitely tragic. I though you were one of those people who thought queen broke up from the movie, and it annoys me when people think they know everything from it haha, so apologies for that
1) Oasis could've been even bigger than they were had Liam and Noel not had their heads up their asses 2) George Harrison had every right to feel confined in the Beatles, he was a criminally underrated songwriter; even compared to John and Paul
Hold up my friend , thats what Oasis was , Liam And Noel not giving a fuck and they might of had there heads up their arses thats cause they were like that , you could say the same about The Sex Pistols , as Johnny Rotten was a total twat , though i love both thats the way they were why people fucking loved em , As you were sunshine x
Liam threw it away, dont forget HE was the reason they weren't as successful in america as they could have been. HE skipped shows, HE said f### Americans, HE blew off the MTV show and multiple interviews. Now, decades later hes finally warming up to america.
Sonic Youth, that band imploded when Kim and Thurston broke up. Drawing from some of the bands listed here, and also my experience as a musician for 30 years, I can tell you two things: Don't be in a band with siblings especially your own, and never ever ever be in band with romantic partners or a married couple, especially not your SO or spouse. Sooner or later that band will go down in messy messy flames.
Ruben DeLaRosa Not always - look at Radiohead. The band has never had any changes to its line up since the 80s and the greenwood brothers have done very well
Guns n Roses could have been so much more, but gotta thank Fatxl Rose for fucking everything up. His ego is as high if not higher than Kanye West's and could skydive off it
I love how you said “when a member leaves in a messy or unexpected way” (or something along those lines) and you didn’t include Nirvana when Kurt Cobain killed himself. They were only one of the biggest bands of the 90s
A few years ago They were offered 20 millions dollars each to perform 1 night in London and 1 in NYC plus as many more as they want, Morrissey said no cause The Smiths were not about the money and Andy Rourke deciled as well stating that he knew Moz and Marr still resented him after the trial and its fallout
The problems between Anselmo and his band mates, drugs, side projects etc. lead to Pantera breaking up, then Dime's death shortly after, making any hope of a possible reunion impossible is what really made this break up especially tragic. Vinnie Paul still hates Phil Anselmo for everything, and the final result of how things turned out for Pantera is probably the worst ending of any popular band in my opinion.
Same. But when Hellyeahs shitty cover of I don't care anymore came out I thought why couldn't someone contacted phil. Phil can do the vocals and send them to Vinnie and have one more Pantera song.
Interesting list, and I'm sure all viewers could come up with a list of their own. I was surprised to see Blondie at the beginning but not listed elsewhere in the video - I remember reading that after Gary Valentine's departure the band Blondie was struggling with both drugs and conflicting egos, and one member said he felt as if they had broken up after every album and was always surprised to find himself back in the studio with the other members.
I can't believe the Beatles were only number 5. They were (and still are) hands down the greatest group in history. Combine that with the fact that their breakup was just as well known as their rise to fame, and you've got an easy number 1 spot on the list.
That's because U2 are a major corporation, not a band. Like the Stones or Queen. Now Radiohead is a band you have to admire. 32 years together and they're actually still vital.
No mention of the dead kennedys? A criminal trial for “selling harmful material to minors” for an hr giger insert in Frankenchrist, years later restarting with child star Brandon cruz on vocals and suing the original vocalist and lyricist jello Biafra for the song rights leading to Jello and the melvins recording “Those Dumb Punk Kids Will Buy Anything” (something their guitarist East Bay Ray supposedly said about their fans) a scathing anthem against what he saw as the other members trying to make a quick buck off nostalgia by “playing songs from the good old days about how bad the good old days were” and their use of Brandon Cruz as “dig up some old child star who never learns the words” and “Malcom in the Middle in the Misfits” and “Gary Coleman in Black Flag”. Seems like an insanely messy breakup to me.
With Guns N Roses I think it was mainly Axl’s fault for the split as he was too controlling of the band and tried to cut the percentage of royalties to other members (specifically Stradlin)
They almost were, liam threw it all away. Oasis had broken 2 Beatles records, were the number 1 band in U.K and were insanely popular in Asia Europe and Australia but before they could nail america liam destroyed the chance. Just ask Elton John.
@@lemming9984 You went too far. I'm a big beatle fan and even tho for me this comparison is not accurate, I still think Oasis were one of the greatest bands in the world. I think the reason why they were compared is not because of impact in music, but maybe the music itself sounds very similar, and the fact that oasis were able to recreate that while making it their own sound should be something to admire.
Take That? In 1990 the band got together and in 1995 Robbie Williams left the band to Pursue a solo career. In 1996 all other members decided that they would release 1 more single and then they broke up on 13th February 1996. In 2005, Howard announced after the group split he tried to kill himself by jumping in the River Themes. In 2005 they reunited but without Robbie.
If Krist Novoselic threw a guitar at Kurt Cobain... GUITAR FIGHT!!! DESTROY EVERYTHING ON STAGE!!! NO ENCORE!!! If an Oasis brother does it... breaks up the band right then and there
Watchmojo knows barely anything about the topics they cover. That's the bad part about trying to put out 2+ videos a day, the production quality goes way down.
Another reason why Green Day is my favorite band. They've been kicking it since the 90s and the 3 guys (plus the addition of Jason White) work together just and make so many classics.
The Sex Pistols and the Replacements should have at least merited honorable mentions; the latter especially so considering that they literally self-desctructed onstage...
also extremely messy was tic tac toes break up, that press conference is legendary in germany. and one of the members has been missing for a good time now. even worse was mayhems end
George Alexander that's because they managed t keep it together. If they were to break up everybody would lose their fucking minds like when the Beatles broke up. Larry Mullen jr started U2 and he can leave anytime he wants to. But he chooses to stay and keep it together.
What you guys have gotta realise is that a band like U2 can't break up. They're employing thousands of people. Like any corporation you gotta keep those wheels rolling and profits coming in. Rolling Stones are the same. Neither of them have made music of any substance or longevity for a long long time.
The Beatles & Oasis are the messiest breakups out of the other breakups on this Top 10 list. Oasis deserves the number 1 spot. The Beatles should've been at number 2 on this list.
You gotta admit that Pink Floyd’s breakup was pretty messy too. They literally broke up twice: when Syd left (which is pretty sad tbh) and when Roger and David broke their friendship.
It's always a horrible breakup whenever the legal system gets involved, such as with Queensryche, Ratt, Great White, LA Guns and other bands in which rights to the name are in question. Aside from those bands, here are two others that could make this list: Styx: This actually deserves multiple mentions as they ahve broken up and reunited a couple of times, with the latest round being the permanent one. Bad feelings between Dennis DeYoung and the rest have made it likely that we woun't see them share a stage again anytime soon. But then again, never say never. Pantera: This breakup was explosive thanks to the volatility of Phil Anselmo, and the war of words went throughout the early 2000's, with some theorizing that the feud contributed to the mindset of Dimbag's killer.
Oasis is #1 and the Beatles ("Considered one of the greatest rock bands of all time"???? That's like saying Shakespeare was a pretty good playwright) are number five? I don't think so.
I've heard the Beatles also fistfought each other, but it was kept out of the press. It's mentioned in a few biographies and interviews, but it's not made into "news".
I was hoping for Refused. The band was breaking up because they hated each other. They all agreed to one last show that was in some person's basement. After some noise complaints and a warning from the cops, they said "fuck it" and continued. They got the plug pulled and the crowd continued chanting the lyrics to their last song, "Rather be Dead".
Oasis #1? REALLY?!?!? I may not always agree with your lists, but The Beatles should have been #1 without a doubt. I also would have put Chicago on here with Peter Cetera's departure. Perhaps not #1, but it was a prime example of egos and vision coming to a head at a time when they were at the second height of their career. At the very least, it should have been an honourable mention.
I know people who think the Beatles are over-rated or were not their favorite band but the fact remains we're still discussing them 50 years after their break-up. It speaks volumes about who they are in the music world. Unike many of the bands who have been mentioned they never truly reunited for an anniversary tour etc. Sure the remaining 3 did do the anthology albums, but one fact remains John Lennon was not there. So it was not a true reunion. Even to this day there is still squabbling about the rights to their music, even on newly discovered music. This also extends to their still inflating egos on who really wrote what song Their legal problems still go to this day & it all come to $$$ That is why their break-up remains the messiest & saddest one of all. ( At least in my Opinion)
Guillermo Hernandez yeah but the Sex Pistols weren’t a real band. They were created by their manager. The Sex Pistols is a band the same way the monkeys were a band, fake!
Oasis? Are you kidding? The largest band ever, The Beatles only makes it to #5. I think you intentionally do this to have more people comment. Ridiculous.
Ferry Rudolph certainly inspired by the Beatles but what band wasn’t at the end of the day oasis were huge the biggest in the last 3 decades since queen so calling them a knock of is a huge overstatement

Might have been at good idea in hindsight. Wendy and Lisa are amazing songwriters and performers and would have left eventually. I've seen the Revolution in concert every year since Prince passed (I still have questions) it's like a beautiful family reunion.

It’s was after John’s death, but George, Paul, and Ringo did record three songs (using John’s demos) as the the Beatles. Two of those songs are Free as a Bird and Real love. I think that technically counts as getting back together, I’m not sure though.
About Smashing Pumpkins, um it's really common to have the same guy play all the guitars for recording an album, it keeps the process tight and clean. Maybe this was before people started doing that though.
About GnR... Of course I'm happy they're back together but I sure don't love the new crew. Slash, Duff and Axl - great. But no Steven or Izzy? And a girl with pink hair and a girly style? I don't expect too much.
@@lanakrajcer they're actually amazing together, with the exception of Axls voice not being to the level it used to they sound basically identical now to how they did in the 80s/90s
Honestly the biggest member to leave GnR was Izzy Stradlin, when the main songwriter leaves its over, Izzy coming back into the band in 07 and Axl finally released Chinese Democracy in 08. And honestly the best Slash stuff was tracks Izzy helped him with. Its why the first VR record was big caus you had Izzy contribute to a handful of songs.

Gerald Herrmann Pink Floyd broke up and it was horrible. I guess only Waters can dig the original Pink Floyd songs on tour. If the other do it then Waters get most of the money.
well, i always was there over the decades and it sure didn´t feel like a breakup for me. waters-phase changed to gilmour-phase, if slowly. but there never was an official end, though waters would have liked it that way. more like an interim, i´d call it.
I feel like the last true album where it was a 50:50 split of creativity between Gilmour and Waters was Dark Side of the Moon. Brick in the Wall seemed to be much more about Waters (all the songs about his father dying in WW2), apart from a few songs like Another Brick in the Wall and Comfortably Numb it feels like Gilmour just walked in, did a solo for a song and walked out
There was a rumour at the time that Gilmour had real real problem with Waters' apparant communist viewpoints. I am not sure if that is true. There were some amazing bassists playing with Gilmour after Waters left, Guy Pratt and Tony Levin stood out to me.
beatles 1 of the most influential?? how about THE most influential band of all times!! every band wishes they had their talent, success and fame. every band is compared to THEM!!
in every huge band there has to be a singular creative force..if everyone puts their two cents in the music gets messy. you gotta have a front man who isn't scared to say "hey your just a rhythm guitarist."
De Young caused so much trouble for the band that he was actually fired twice. He also caused the band to break up in 1984. He always had the attitude of a solo artist, not a band member.
Y'all forgot the moment when Michael from the Jackson five said that he was not going to be touring on stage with his brothers anymore and his brothers where completely unaware of the situation
Something tells me that people thought it would be The Beatle who broke up and not Oasis, but also I don’t know much about bands in the music industries.
Panic! At The Disco could be an honorable mention too seeing that the vocalist can play the instrument the other members can and no touring member wants to be a permanent band member even if they've played for multiplr shows with him.
They broke up in 2005 and went on an "indefinite hiatus", got back together in 2009, and put out a new album. And then Tom left the band a few years ago. I'd say that would qualify as a break up and it's definitely messy. Or at the very least it matches what Watch Mojo counts as a breakup

I really wish that The Beatles lasted longer than they did. For a band that revolutionized many genres of music at the time, I really thought they'd go beyond the early 1970s.
We all did
Heavy Metal was comming. The Beatles would have lost their popularity among the youth anyway. Perfect time to spilt up imo.

Hence, while just after leaving the band shortly after those albums releases, their next music video has a quick cut away shot of a sign saying, "Where is Izzy?"
The dude was and still is the heart and soul of Guns and Roses.

it's sad how he's the only OG to not return for the reunion, at least he did a show with Axl a few years before though
Izzy stuck out like a sore thumb. Didn't belong with Guns. Good with The JuJu Hounds and solo, sucked with Guns.

The Beatles breakup is THE MOST tragic of all by far!
talisbriedis Mayhem is worser.

I was just about to mention Oasis.
George was my favorite Beatle.

Mayhem's breakup involved one member murdering another. That seems pretty messy.
can't believe Abba wasn't mentioned 😒
Karolina Rimkute two couples just break with each other without any great scandal.
Romantic interests (ABBA, Fleetwood Mac) and siblings (Everley Brothers, Kinks, CCR, Oasis) make for lots of drama within a band.
Both couples in ABBA broke up their marriage. But as a band they handled it very professionally. They even wrote songs about it.
No one cares thats why.
Stupid cheesy euro pop.

Guns n Roses could have been so much more, but gotta thank Fatxl Rose for fucking everything up. His ego is as high if not higher than Kanye West's and could skydive off it

Hating your bandmates and hating your life is two different things
Pantera and Mötley Crüe, there is probably a lot more
I'd put Talking Heads on here. Great band, awful breakup.
The Smiths...

They don't "hate" each other today. In Johnny marr's autobiography he talks about meeting up with morrissey multiple times to try re union the smiths

Sad to say, but Pantera should be #1, easily the worst band break up. RIP Dimebag.
radiv YES
The problems between Anselmo and his band mates, drugs, side projects etc. lead to Pantera breaking up, then Dime's death shortly after, making any hope of a possible reunion impossible is what really made this break up especially tragic. Vinnie Paul still hates Phil Anselmo for everything, and the final result of how things turned out for Pantera is probably the worst ending of any popular band in my opinion.
Same. But when Hellyeahs shitty cover of I don't care anymore came out I thought why couldn't someone contacted phil. Phil can do the vocals and send them to Vinnie and have one more Pantera song.
radiv Dude Pantera was huge to

It really makes you appreciate groups like U2 that manage to stay together despite all the success
That's because U2 are a major corporation, not a band. Like the Stones or Queen. Now Radiohead is a band you have to admire. 32 years together and they're actually still vital.
The same people have been in the group since high school and I think that’s pretty epic
I’d wished they’d broken up and fucked off a long time ago
bono deserves to get his teeth kicked in nothin to appreciate about u2
Probably coz they weren't heavy on the drugs and debauchery
How could they leave off Simon and Garfunkel and put in The Everly Brothers?
telemmedic for real

How did Simon and Garfunkel break up?
I wish I was Sherlock Holmes Art wanted to be an actor and acted in Catch 22. Paul had to do many things without Art so they broke up
What about Pantera?
Here is a few more bands: Tears for Fears,Genesis,Journey.
With Guns N Roses I think it was mainly Axl’s fault for the split as he was too controlling of the band and tried to cut the percentage of royalties to other members (specifically Stradlin)
“The next Beatles” 😂😂😂😂😂😂
They almost were, liam threw it all away. Oasis had broken 2 Beatles records, were the number 1 band in U.K and were insanely popular in Asia Europe and Australia but before they could nail america liam destroyed the chance. Just ask Elton John.
Oasis weren't worthy of sucking the Beatles toes. Over rated & under talented.
Lemming 998 you must be a blur fan
@@dadeadlytaco9700 Actually NO! Just a music lover. Hated Liam's nasal whine mainly.
They were probably limiting the top 10 to breakups people cared about.

Unbelievable how after 100 years. U2 is still around and with the same members. Not really a fan, like some songs.
George Alexander that's because they managed t keep it together. If they were to break up everybody would lose their fucking minds like when the Beatles broke up. Larry Mullen jr started U2 and he can leave anytime he wants to. But he chooses to stay and keep it together.
And Bono has been described as hard to work with by his bandmates
What you guys have gotta realise is that a band like U2 can't break up. They're employing thousands of people. Like any corporation you gotta keep those wheels rolling and profits coming in. Rolling Stones are the same. Neither of them have made music of any substance or longevity for a long long time.
Wtf lol 100 years
Well shit Rush are still together
The Beatles & Oasis are the
messiest breakups out of the
other breakups on this Top 10
list. Oasis deserves the number
1 spot. The Beatles should've
been at number 2 on this list.
Agreed
And, I don't know too many band break ups, but come on, Pink Floyd should be #3
You gotta admit that Pink Floyd’s breakup was pretty messy too.
Aside from those bands, here are two others that could make this list:
Styx: This actually deserves multiple mentions as they ahve broken up and reunited a couple of times, with the latest round being the permanent one.
Michael L with Styx it was because Dennis de young had eye problems and Styx decided to continue without him.
Oasis is #1 and the Beatles ("Considered one of the greatest rock bands of all time"???? That's like saying Shakespeare was a pretty good playwright) are number five? I don't think so.
Nathan Cox it’s messiest breaks up, not best bands
It's not the best bands, it's the worst breakups.
I've heard the Beatles also fistfought each other, but it was kept out of the press. It's mentioned in a few biographies and interviews, but it's not made into "news".
I love the Beatles but they are greatly overrated, especially when compared to bands like queen
@Nathan Cox Beatles fans didn't grasp the concept of reading comprehension in school it seems
Benjamin Smith Oasis is definitely number 1
Deep Purple's initial breakup during the Mk3 lineup was pretty sad.
When Sting says "Put on the red light" he reminds me of Peter Boyle in Young Frankenstein.
Sex Pistols need to be on this list
Guillermo Hernandez yeah but the Sex Pistols weren’t a real band. They were created by their manager. The Sex Pistols is a band the same way the monkeys were a band, fake!

One additional note about #8: When Van Halen went back to David Lee Roth in 2006, bassist Michael Anthony was replaced by Eddie’s son Wolfgang.
Oasis? Are you kidding? The largest band ever, The Beatles only makes it to #5.

Oasis is just a Beatles knock-off.
Ferry Rudolph certainly inspired by the Beatles but what band wasn’t at the end of the day oasis were huge the biggest in the last 3 decades since queen so calling them a knock of is a huge overstatement
Beatles should’ve been ranked #1. Not #5.
The Beatles wasn’t that messy really..

wow u guys forgot about Prince and the Revolution. that one was a mess man.
I didn't find it messy. It absolutely broke my 13 year old heart. I was so depressed. it was only decades later that I finally understood that was his way. He wanted to take back creative control. Might have been at good idea in hindsight. Wendy and Lisa are amazing songwriters and performers and would have left eventually. I've seen the Revolution in concert every year since Prince passed (I still have questions) it's like a beautiful family reunion.
LMAO,you're nuts,he was still friends with the revolution long after moving on...I live in Minneapolis,we know everything about PRINCE,any talk of a messy break up is total bull shit, read what wendy & lisa say,Dr fink never spoke a bad word
It’s was after John’s death, but George, Paul, and Ringo did record three songs (using John’s demos) as the the Beatles. Two of those songs are Free as a Bird and Real love. I think that technically counts as getting back together, I’m not sure though.
The Beatles clearly should have been #1. Like seriously. And NWA should have definitely #2.
The Beatles broke up peacefully, compared to many others on this list.
No Talking Heads? They had a pretty rough break up.
definitely. Smiths and Talking Heads should both be on here
About Smashing Pumpkins, um it's really common to have the same guy play all the guitars for recording an album, it keeps the process tight and clean. Maybe this was before people started doing that though.
Umm what about Steel Dragon! So you can take this list and put it in a blutty blenda!
No Pantera? Also GnR are making a new album
About GnR... Of course I'm happy they're back together but I sure don't love the new crew. Slash, Duff and Axl - great. But no Steven or Izzy? And a girl with pink hair and a girly style? I don't expect too much.

pink floyd? never broke up. waters went, floyd moved on to new heights.
Brick in the Wall seemed to be much more about Waters (all the songs about his father dying in WW2), apart from a few songs like Another Brick in the Wall and Comfortably Numb it feels like Gilmour just walked in, did a solo for a song and walked out
Final Cut'd
There was a rumour at the time that Gilmour had real real problem with Waters' apparant communist viewpoints. I am not sure if that is true.
There were some amazing bassists playing with Gilmour after Waters left, Guy Pratt and Tony Levin stood out to me.

De Young caused so much trouble for the band that he was actually fired twice. He also caused the band to break up in 1984. He always had the attitude of a solo artist, not a band member.

Francis Gerard Opeña not really a break up. just a couple of departures. brendon’s been releasing music as P!ATD for a while
Decent list. blink-182 have been a huge mess as well.
Ana Hoppus it's a "break up" list. Tom being excluded for being a piss baby control freak does not mean they broke up.
They broke up in 2005 and went on an "indefinite hiatus", got back together in 2009, and put out a new album. And then Tom left the band a few years ago. I'd say that would qualify as a break up and it's definitely messy. Or at the very least it matches what Watch Mojo counts as a breakup
Was totally expecting GNR to be number one, and when i saw they were number two i got a headache trying to figure out who could possibly have had a worse breakup.
