Hiking at Half Moon Wildlife Management Area

Hiking at Half Moon Wildlife Management Area, a vast and scenic wilderness located in Sumter County, Florida. It is an area with many miles of hiking and multi-use trails along with many off the beaten path places to explore. It is near the Withlacoochee River and the area was the site of pioneer homesteads during the 1800's and early 1900's. There was once a town here called "Alto" now a ghost town. Only the cemetery remains from those times. Many of the old roads used here by the settlers are named after those families today. It makes you curious about the history and inspires you to want to learn more. Logging activities once surrounded this now peaceful wilderness. Many of the old growth trees were cut down during that era. You can hike along the railroad line that was used here and there are still many old trees to be discovered if you look good enough. I always enjoy coming out here, besides the interesting history it is very peaceful and has awesome wildlife. Horseback riding is a popular activity here as well so there is a little bit of something for everyone here to enjoy. Thank you for watching the video!
