- Florida's wetlands are crucial for the ecosystem and wildlife in these places. The waters here flow through the swamps out from the creeks and rivers. As these lands become developed the wild spaces become changed forever it is important to highlight and share about them. In hopes that people will cherish and want to save these lands that are so very critical. Save the wetlands, preserve and enjoy them.
Yes I'm 62 years old and live here all my life I got to see everything before most of it got destroyed. I used to go skinny dipping on the Weeki Wachee River and now there are hordes of people there. There are still some beautiful places and the Trailblazer goes
So true katjones, I'm same age as you. You mentioned the river I'm a life long hernando county resident.
Thank you for taking the time to show this part of Florida
Beautiful Florida nature. It's so nice to see some of it is still there. I've seen so much change in my almost 70 years here. It's so alarming to see the accelerated tearing up of the land.
Did you hear our Governor and the FDEP wants to bulldoze Jonathan Dickinson State Park and Hillsborough River State park for two or three Golf courses? Anastasia may have a 350 plus or minus Resort both on the beach side with Pickleball, tennis and more asphalt. Hobe Sound Look out on the Hill will be bulldozed I'm told. At least 8 or ten parks are planned for the Bulldozers. Meetings being held this coming Tuesday with room for 150 citizens at , I guess the parks on the target list. I'm going to check out FDEP site but you all can check on YT. Jack Nicklaus' (SP) son is being targeted for his ideas?
Currently, there is a massive proposal to destroy the state parks by tearing out the natural ecosystems and replacing them with golf courses, hotels, and pickleball courts. Apparently, someone thinks the state parks should be more profitable.
in Florida, water is not an obstacle to the terrain, it IS the terrain, and it makes our world cooler, greener and richer with life
It breaks my heart to see the suburban sprawl that's eating up this beautiful state. I left in 2021 but my thoughts are still there.
Important video. Thanks for what you do
Beautiful Nature!!!
Florida needs more nature. My town was beautiful a few years ago now it's nothing but concrete in neighborhoods...
Thanks for sharing such an important video,
So beautiful following along with your hike.
Just retuned from over Crystal River area and so much building is going on.
Growing up around the big pastures full with thriving cattle and horses . The river had more kinds of fish and things are sure changing at warp speed lately. Sad seeing long term ranches sold or up for sale like SHAMROCK Most understand change yet always finger pointing. Truth is with certain things they must be protected. Or the sad consequences shall rear their devastating heads.
Safe and happy hiking FTB it’s tougher than how easy you make it look. We must protect our wetlands and please get word out about the changes that Florida is trying to do with several State Parks.
Meetings statewide on Tuesday! Don't forget the golf course adjacent to Rainbow State Park flopped years ago. Anastasia Park is one target. Golf courses galore. Great place for floods now that the wetlands are being paved over. Ther's a 2K acre development going in just below Chiefland city limits along the West side of HWY 19. Two lakes already and I think a lot of wetlands on both sides of 19.
@Cerceify4645 the State Park meetings are being rescheduled. Too many people found out about this diabolical plan, and there isn't enough space at any of the venues. They need more space to accommodate everyone.
Beautiful video. That is what a lot of our state was. It's how the native American people traveled throughout much of the state by dugouts and canoes in in swamps and rivers and creeks.
This was the only kind of swimming pool i had as a kid in the 70's in west central Florida.
Hurts to watch this. They closed a good portion of Richloam close to me (over a thousand acres). Miss it terribly. Blamed it on partiers, which wasnt that many the past couple of years.
Hate to think what they're going to do to the land.
Keep up the good work, young man!👍🙏
They're going to develop Richloam!!???! If this happens I will be incredibly pissed!!!!
@@davejones5745 area called high bluff. Don't know if it's going to be developed. But they even put concrete barriers out down the side of the road at the entrance of high bluff. Pretty hardcore just for partiers if you ask me.
@@gardel2526 I've seen that done to stop trash from taking over also, because ppl can't remember to not leave a trace.
Richloam is a State Wildlife Management Area. I've moved to S. Ga. in 2021 but the horrible Republican controlled government there could have changed the laws since then. I don't know. They tried to build a Sub division in the middle of Green Swamp called Heritage something. That got cancelled.
@4:20 You're brave. Big Gators love sitting in moving water ready to ambush...
Hey Florida Trail Blazer , thank you for the video.
Incredible
Great video. How are the seed ticks down that way? Always enjoy your videos!
Hard to imagine there are areas of Florida that still harbor wildlife, until you go to those areas. Hope massive development and destruction can be prevented. We can all agree that more parking lots add nothing.
When, I think it was hurricane Debbie coming through south central Florida the news media made a big deal about Babcock Ranches development having relatively little flooding due to their wetlands. Sierra Club sued the development originally to save those wetlands, as the company wanted to bulldoze wherever they could. Sierra did settle out of court but the wetlands still intact did save many homes.
Soon they will pave whats left!
Oh I thought you’d be in the wetlands where sits all them houses flooded by hurricane Debs . Well good thing they haven’t put em where you’re at . yet.… That water sure looks refreshing on a hot Florida day ! 🕺👍
They joy radiating from your description of the flooding (we'll be fine, by the way - we always are) is putrid.
Beautiful and relaxing ! Any gators ??
Florida fresh water....yes.
@@theresagomez2605 more power to him ! Much braver than I !!
I've worn waterproof boots for years when hiking and been ok. I'm curious on your input as far as what footwear works best for you? May give me a reason to try and change it up. Big fan, take care
Well with my budget I can only get a mid-range type boot I'd say one that is waterproof but has it's limitations. I was wearing waterproof Columbia hiking boots in this video and they hold up good. But once you get water over the top of the of them you are wet. Once I got so wet on this hike I decided just to get in the water at that point. If you want the best kind you have to keep the ones that go up to your knees or even waders.
Glad to see that the proposal to Rob Floridians of our Natural treasures has gotten a huge response from those of us who love our varied environment.
Say NO, to new developments adjacent or on State Park land..😊❤
@@danielgriffis9759absolutely! I can't believe the nonsense being proposed! At the park near me, they want to rip out all the trees to put in THREE!!! golf courses. Wtf?!
@@theresagomez2605 pure greed,sad.
The rapid development of florida disgust me.
They are bulldozing all up and down HWY 41 and then putting up for sale signs.
What did the governor say about the people not wanting progress 🙄 first time I see so much water since I’ve been watching your videos.
Have you ever seen any big cats on the trails?
I am noticing in the comments that a lot if people think preserving the wetlands means being anti-development.
I hope this people aren't then going to complain about the cost of housing going up.
Say NO golf courses or hotels in FL state parks!
The one golf course they are building is going on a decommissioned radar station.
@@woodchuck003 oh. that's totally different 🙄
Where's that info come from?🧐
Also we keep voting for the same people here in Florida and they are changing laws do not support our environment
Actually DeSantis set aside 1.5B for Everglades restoration and work is already being done. Within a matter of months the changes are incredible in the Picayune Strand and Fakahatchee areas. Water is already flowing where it was dry for years. You have to see it for yourself. It’s amazing to actually see a difference down there. Now we need to take care of everything North of there too.
@@TrailsNThingsMiddle Florida needs the protection I feel. Suburban sprawl is wiping out so much it's disgusting.
@@TrailsNThings Yes, and that was a great program that worked. Ppl are quick to condemn the Gov. He's done a good job for FL. There are some new ideas being tossed around for the state parks. It will be interesting to see what comes of it.
I agree and now our governor or his administration want to add golf and pickleball courts to some of our state parks.
