Traditional Arab or Pakistani wedding, maybe, or possibly an Indian wedding. I can think of a few other places this could be, including parts of the US. There are huge swathes of the world where weddings are MASSIVE and expensive, and girls are expected to stay home.

    • @LupeUri
      @LupeUri Рік тому +14

Yeah especially if 13k is "almost all gone" that makes me think that there was probably 80-100k in each (Idk I'm not sure how much college costs) so let's assume that there was 100k in each, that's 187k between the both, From what I can tell average weddings with anywhere between 50-75 people including additional costs of the dress venue etc, are a MAXIMUM of 50-60k (Depends on where you live/go but I've heard of plenty of weddings where including all this can be done for 20-40k) so that "almost all gone" could've payed for quite a large portion of the average wedding, how the hell did they manage to dump so much of that money into a wedding, not only is it a waste for 1 day you're using stolen money for it which will probably lead to being arrested for theft (Again Depends on where you live) so with that in mind My own personal theory is
They used a decent sum of the money for the wedding and potentially put the rest towards investments or are hoarding the rest of it for themselves and lying OR they gave the rest to the brother for financial stability
Regardless of what happened I pray she gets/got her money back and her family are 100% A-Holes for that

I've never understood why people spend so much on one day where the relationship is likely to end in divorce a couple years later, you could buy a house and start a family with that kind of money, you know, the reason people get married in the first place for, rings are also dumb expensive but at least it's tangible and you can sell it

Periods are nothing to be ashamed of. All people should have at least basic understanding of periods, and how they effect the body.
Doesn’t matter what your gender is.

More dads need to be comfortable with discussing things like periods, especially if they have any children or partners that are female. We need to destigmitze periods. It's a very normal and natural thing approx. half the world's population experience. And I'm glad he discussed it with his younger daughters to prepare them. Imagine how scared they would have been once they hit puberty and found they were bleeding and experiencing pain and nausea. His ex shouldn't get pissy with him for discussing basic human functions, and I find it ironic that she called HIM immature! Even if it's legally a grey area, it's so unenforced that it's ridiculous to see how hard the OP went in on the girl. The only reason OP had a problem with the girl using the card, was because she heard her say it was her father. And she just assumed it was stolen.

    • @sofakingimmature
      @sofakingimmature Рік тому +8

TLDR: Yes, its a crime but it's covered with loopholes that stores use to get out of liability.
Store owner who went through a similar situation. It depends on the card, agreements, and the liabilities involved. Most cards, especially with those proprietary store cards, have strict agreements were only an authorized user can use the card. If anyone else uses it, it Is automatically classified as fraud and everyone (cashier, store, the girl) could be in major legal trouble since the girl admitted to it's not personally hers. The cashier taking the card implicates the store since they 'knowing participated' in the fraud and, as what happens with accepting fake money, the store loses all rights to merchandise since it's 'evidence'. Also, since it's a fraud case with a credit card company at the helm, it's going to take months to deal with and a huge deal of paperwork where everyone is pushing it onto others.
So, yea, it's illegal to use a card that's not yours. It's just that stores use customer service reasons to push all liability onto you, the customer, so that we can get off scott free. It's the reason why you swipe your card now (since if the cashier takes it, we accept any possible issue that can come from you using our terminals).

I promise no one's going to know the difference. 😁👍
The cops won't have a leg to stand on, because I'll tell them that you said it was "ok". I could even say you were so generous as to lend me your identity, for a day, and I could live in your house and threaten to throw you out, because I live there now.
Do you see where I'm going with this yet? If not, I can lie to you some more so it'll sound better, you'll believe me as long as I say so right? You're such a great guy.

Credit card story: Actually going to say NTA, though she could have handled it _way_ better. The fact is, cashiers are _not_ supposed to let you use a card that doesn't belong to you because of potential fraud. They could have offered to call the father and double-check or any number of other things, but initially refusing the sale because the person using it is not the cardholder is policy at _most_ retail outlets

I’m a professional photographer and I cover events, I’m also mostly bedridden crippled with nerve damage so I pick and choose what events I do, I’ve a good reputation I’ve built since I was 19 and have good contacts and friends that are part of big companies in my city. I also do charity events, where I’m not paid a fee and my time is given to photograph a charity event, this means any fee the charity would’ve paid me can go towards their needs instead, I do a few of these a year.
I have an event this coming weekend, it’s a charity event with TV celebrities, some I’ve made friends with over the last decade, the event organiser is a close friend, and the TV celebs whenever visiting my area of Scotland specifically ask for me because they not only know me, but know I’m professional and friendly, I treat them like normal people and don’t hound them like paparazzi. I’m always honoured to work with my friends and their colleagues, especially knowing all of us are taking 0 fee to help out a cancer charity!
When talking to the event organiser he knows I’m disabled as I’ve known the guy since I was 19 (32 now) and he makes sure there’s comfortable areas for me to sit so I don’t exhaust my body standing (standing longer than 10 minutes just destroys me, I use a walking cane, lots of pain meds kinda nerve damage), he’s also organised food for me and asked if I wanted to sit anywhere specific at the event and I gave the same answer I always give, “somewhere quiet and out of the way, back of house works fine for me”, and it’ll be a proper meal from this classy hotel/restaurant where the evening part of the event is where rich sponsors pay to sit and have a meal with the TV celebrities, I always ask to sit back of house because I get a break from everyone for a short period of time and don’t wanna take a seat away from a VIP because my friend can use that seat so another high paying VIP can have it, aka more money going to the charity.
Even events I’m paid for I get regular breaks, if it’s a regular event like a university student association ball, an oil and gas company ceilidh or burns night, they offer food! If they don’t offer food then I’m also okay with this (rare for this to happen) but make it very clear I’m on a break whilst they eat, it allows me to rest. Folk understand regardless if I’m given food or not, that I’ve already warned them I need regular breaks due to disability and my shooting partner will also be on break (always work with my best friend so we photograph events together). We’ve never had anyone try and harass us for not photographing people during meal time, wanna know why? Because nobody wants their photo taken as they’re eating, nobody wants that.
So TLDR: professional photographer here saying NTA, you charged mates rates and they couldn’t even treat you like a mate. I’d honestly post on social media saying there will be no photographs from yourself and to ask the husband why that is and leave it open ended, because I’ve absolutely no doubt you’ll sadly be hounded by some folk for photos and the husband will blame you instead of taking accountability.

Here's the thing about the credit card story. It's fraud, regardless of whether she has permission. In some jurisdictions it may also be considered identity theft. The whole "I have the cardholder's permission" thing is only valid for online transactions. For a transaction with the physical card, the cardholder _has_ to be the one completing the transaction. If you want to give someone permission to use your card, that's what secondary cards are for: same card number with their own name on it, so they can show ID to prove they're not committing a crime.
Its actually even worse if she has permission, because she's still committing exactly the same crime, but then he's _also_ committing a crime because he's an accessory to it.

SEVEN little cousins that I often had to watch all at the same time for 5+ hours (up to 12 on weekends and during the summer) 5 or more days a week UNPAID until I started working at 14, because my family decided they were entitled to all of my free time. my vote for the credit card lady story is "everyone sucks here" because lady should have approached more "do you have evidence your dad gave permission to spend that much money" and less "you shouldn't pay for that with /daddy's money/, you /lazy, entitled teen!/" but the teen /was/ being /pretty shady/ at the same time, considering she didn't tell her friend before they went to the store, /at minimum/. i don't think the lady should have ignored the fact that it was the teen's father's credit card because it "wasn't her business." i'd feel pretty shitty if one of my siblings stole my credit card and everyone ignored the theft because they claimed to have borrowed it and it "wasn't their business," y'know? and if the teen didn't steal the card, she could have told her dad and gone back to get the stuff she wanted later.
tl;dr woman should have handled it with less hostility/smugness but wasn't wrong to question the teen using the card. if the teen had permission she could have went back later so she only really prevented the teen getting the expensive stuff if she stole the credit card.

She admitted it to a *friend*. The only reason the cashier gave a shit was because this Karen was trying to like "expose her" so once there was serious pressure from someone and they threatened to call the police the cashier just had to go along with the Karen because hell they might be considered complicit. Generally, it's not a big deal and most people don't care that much because for credit cards if it is fraud the dad would see on his bank statement, get the charge reversed, and force the daughter to return it. The dad still has access to the financial details of the card and if he sees an unauthorized purchase she would get in trouble
Also, it's possible that her dad lets her go shopping because he's busy and can't spend time with her, for example, and maybe he made a rule that she cannot call during work hours because he's some kind of important businessman

I know it absolutely feels like OP is the AH, but when you look closer, is she really? What if everyone got involved when they see a crime or emergency - can you honestly say the world would be a worse place if people would involve themselves when they see an event like that taking place? Am I missing something here? How is the credit card person TAH? She spots that the kid is about to spend something in the 4 digit mark on SOMEONE ELSE'S CREDIT CARD. Why does it matter that it's her dad's? That's alot of money to randomly let your kid spend on your credit card and it's not like she doesn't have her own card in this case too. Surely there's nothing wrong with getting her to call her dad and making sure she has permission first. I used to buy some stuff at my local corner shop every now and then with my mams card. Once they realised it was hers, they stopped me and waited until they knew I had permission. It's not like they didn't know who we were either, we would always get our quick shopping from there.

I'm surprised how many people are sayin OP is TAH in the Credit Card story. A lot of kids LIE/STEAL (me being one of them and knowing others who would also lie) in order to do/get something they want, the girl could've easily said "I'll call my dad and you can hear him give me permission" problem would've been solved or the "karen" would back off before she even made the call.

Yes but op stuck her nose where it doesn't belong thats a asshole move It's not her place she's nit the main character mind your own damn business and let her father deal with it if she is lying

And what if dad was busy? Like, sorry but you being a trashy kid doesn't mean you should just assume others are. The only "evidence" OP had, was overheating the kid say it was her dad's card to her friend. There was no reason to escalate like this. Unless you think bank card usage should require identity checks, this is just you projecting.

Heck I had a little brother that stole ALL the time like hundreds of dollars. I’m surprised also at how many called her the AH since yeah might seem over the top but clearly if the boots are that expensive I doubt her dad would be ok with it.😅

    second story is obviously NTA
she probably just saved that girl and their dad from being eaten out by dad and having to see 2,000$ go down the drain cuz your daughter wanted some cool boots respectively

You’re making a whole lot of assumptions there, just like the lady in the story. You know nothing about the girl, her father or any agreement or lack there of between them in regards to the use of the card.

Credit Card Story: I know I'm bias but I know stories of kids stealing their parent's credit card to buy expensive stuff, so I'm glad OP stepped in just in case. NTA imo. If she wanted an expensive bag she can either get her own money for it or have her parents buy it for her.

Its not her buissness though now imagine the kid did have permission for a birthday or something and op stuck her nose where it doesn't belong and stopped her and the kid was saying that her dad was buying It for her using his card with permisson

@@Officerbagel imagine if the little girl's parents went into DEBT because of a pair of frikkin boots that were at the very least 1,000 dollars and probably muchmore. That's not a small amount of money. It might be none of her buisness, but think about what would happen if the little girl was stealing from a father who couldn't afford it.
Also, why didnd't the little girl call her Dad to prove she was telling the truth. If she had that kind of money surely she had a cellphone.
Litte girl was mad she got caught- and who knows if she'd send her family into debt.
Also, even fi she did get permission- are we SURE her father gave her permission to use a credit card that recklessly? Are we sure she didn't intentionally stretch the truth on how expensive these boots are to get "permission" to buy them.

OP didn't handle the situation well, but she had good intentions.
I don't think "it's none of 'Karens' buisness" applies wehn she's worried about someone being cheated out of 1,000+ dollars and was worried for someone else's financial safety.
If the girl really got permission, she could call her Dad to prove it, or come back with her father.
We have no idea of truly knowing whether or not the girl is lying or OP is just being overly nosy, but I think calling her a Karen is a bit much. Karens exist, but I'm not sure OP truly can be considered one when she's just concerned with the little girl putting her fmaily into debt.
