  • In todays video we fall In love with one of Europe's best kept secrets, Gdansk Poland. We will share our top 5 reasons Gdańsk should be added to your travel bucket list!
We wander thew cobblestone streets taking in the beautiful Baltic Sea. We visit the historic Saint Mary's Church, which is one of the oldest and largest brick churches in the world. We stumble across an incredible Christmas market and, as always, we eat some delicious food.

Typing this form Gdansk and enjoying the last few days of summer sun here. Next Polish city I think will be Wroszlaw - nobody has a negative thing to say about it. So maybe next year.......

Lovely video! Here's some extra history most westerners don't know:
The atrocities in WWII is what happens when Germans believe the Polish, Polish Jews, and Slavs [all one and the same back then] are beneath them, which they believed for centuries and this is taught culturally... The Germanization of Poland started with Prussia instigating the 18th century partitions when Poland-Lithuania was by far the most tolerant country in the world. A danger to the HRE power.
Bismarck and Frederik both detested Polish culture and Hitler was no different---the holocaust wasn't anti-Jewish, it was anti-Polish.
Anti-Polish pro-German propaganda is the best foreign influence in the English speaking world through German ministry of culture funded history research to paint them in a better light in the west's "best" universities and through film/Hollywood. Now you know.@@HeresGoodTravel

@@HeresGoodTravel My first trip to Poland was as a result of, she who must be obeyed, wishing to go to a Jake Bug concert and the London one being sold out. DId a quick search and found him in Warsaw with tickets spare and dates we could make. We managed the whole trip giving us five glorious days in Warsaw and in a five start hotel just outside the city walls for less than the trip and a one night stay in a London hotel = no competition. We've been wed 37 years now and though she was born in NY and raised in FL I imported her to the UK on a livestock licence about 32 years ago. She's now a British citizen and loves roaming Europe at every opportunity. I think that and the cats are only reason she keeps me around - I pick great off the beaten path places, feed and deflea the cats - It's my only way of staying useful. She's a purebred Sicilian NY beauty and I do whatever it takes to remain alive.
A travel tip for you. Netherlands - Utrecht. Leave Schipol airport go down the stairs onto the train platforms. Take the train to Utrecht. If my memory serves me right it's 20-30 mins on the train. Beautiful bite sized city with excellent train and bus links to no end of equally lovely little spots. You don't really need to bother with a car. Amersfoort, Delft, Haarlem to name a few.
Last one for fear of being boring. Fly to Pisa - stay one night and do the tower thing. (Pisa has little to offer other than this) Hire a car and use Lucca as the centre of your itinerary. If there's a lovelier town on this planet I've yet to find it. From there you can get the train to Florence for a day trip and use the car for the likes of Sienna (lovely) and Volterra (the boss's favourite spot) I'll leave it at that, you are more than capable of finding your own little favourite haunts.
I lied - I'll throw in another one - Dresden and Meissen and right down to the Polish and Czech borders with no end of fortified towns (Germany is beautiful if a little expensive nowadays)

One historical note. Gdańsk was thoughtlessly destroyed by Red Army soldiers after the capitulation of the city. The city was demolished, plundered, people killed, women raped. Other cities suffered a similar fate. The same thing is happening in Ukraine today. The mentality of the Russian armies and methods of operation have been unchanged for centuries. The word złoty - golden is an adjective of the word gold - złoto.

Back in the recent 1990 I was driving through Poland and in some remote and flat countryside area I stumbled upon a motel with restaurant. I had a dinner there, full first and second meal, very sizeable and filling, with potatoes, meats, soup, breads and a full bottle of wine and it cost me exactly $2. Two freaking bucks!!! Then I decided to stay overnight in their motel and that cost me $10. Total of $12 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What, did I hear that right ? You paid 7 USD for a 40 min BOLT ride ? There is absolutely no way that anybody in their right mind would drive you 40 minutes for 7 USD especially with gas/petrol being very expensive in Poland. That is like saying, I bought a Big Mac at Mc Donald in the States in 2023 for a dollar,...yeah, no such thing. I've been to Gdansk and the Tricity area twice, once in 2012 and then again in 2019 and even a cab in 2012 from the Gdansk Airport to Grand Cru hotel located in the old town of Gdansk with a shorter than 40 min drive, was several times more than what you supposedly paid, and that was 11 years ago with Poland in general being much, much cheaper then, than it is now. I know that BOLT/UBER is chaper than regular taxi but stil the doesn't differ that much. BTW, when travelling in Poland by train I wouldn't recommend taking the budget TLK intercity train especially in the summer as they do not have AC, they are overcrowded and generally have old carriages. Spend a bit more and take the regular PKP Intercity train or even Premium Intercity train as they are still quite cheap especially in comparison to Western European countries.

    • @HeresGoodTravel

We had an awesome time visiting Poland and Gdańsk just might have been our favorite city we saw. Just looked it up and google says the estimated drive from GDN to old town center is about 34 minutes and a bolt ride is 53 Zloty which is about $13 USD. We were lucky to find a promo code for bolt and we’re given a credit bringing the price down to about $7 bucks USD. On our trip around the world we almost exclusively rode public transit to save money but this was a splurge that was definitely worth it. Thanks so much for watching.
