    Please pronounce Pest as "pesht"! The Hungarian "s" sounds as an "sh" like "show". The Hungarian letter "sz" is equivalent of the English sound "s".

    I like it , good in information. You have to be cereful when renovating a housa. Find very good professionals but some people cheat, but some people cheat. Need information about the craftsmen. Many masters work in Western Europe for their high salaries. In Hungary you have to wait for good workers. Neighbors are helpful, especially in rural areas. 💕

    Budapest not a cheap city, you need a good deacent income, if you want a comfortable life there.

      Depends on what are you comparing it to. Budapest is as developed (or even more developed in some areas) as large west european cities, but it is much more affordable than London, Paris, Barcelona, or any German big city.
      Public transport is super cheap, and better than most large cities in europe.
      Internet is super fast and rather cheap.
      You can find any kind of international food like Vietnameese, Korean, Chinese, Italian, German, Ukrainan, Georgian, Persian, Balkan, American, etc. And they are usually quite authentic.
      Weather is also quite nice with warm long summers, short and mild winters.
      As it is located in the middle of europe, you can travel to a lot of countries quite easy.

    What sort of visa or residence permit does she have that allows her to stay? I was thinking of a retirement visa, though I'm just 50.

  • @rxcatsone

    What types of visas are available for retirees that intend to rent an apartment rather than purchasing property? Anything for people with passive income, including US social security & pensions? Now that the US discontinued its bilateral tax treaty with Hungary, how is it impacting taxation of passive income from the US if a Hungarian resident?

    • @adventurefreaksss
      @adventurefreaksss  2 місяці тому

      You're asking some pretty complex questions that would require a tax expert especially with the recent changes. Hungary does offer a Long term resident permit that requires you demonstrate self-sufficiency. They don't indicate a specific number however I've seen ranges from 1500 - 2500 Euros- proof of income.

      I had a friend from the US who moved to Budapest with her disabled US father.She was listed as his caregiver and his income from USDI was $2,000 per month. It was about 8 years ago when they came here. Sadly he passed during covid and she no longer was able to stay in HU due to losing her job as his caregiver and the SSDI being stopped. They lived here for 5 years, never qualified to get national health so they bought they own health insurance; Not good plan however but expensive. She found out how bad it was when he was dying and got little help.They could only get a one year at a time temp; visa to stay in HU as people from a 3rd country. That is what people from outside the EU are called here, 3rd country citizens. Every year they had to re register at immigration and submit papers all over again. I am also American but married to a HU citizen so rules for me are different and I was given a perm resident stay. They were slightly uncomfortable living just year to year and wondering if they rules might change and they would have to leave. He happened to pass just as their new filling came up; She was rejected because her income was cut off when he died. Good news is she jumped over to Sweden and got married, still dealing with immigration and possible deportation since her papers were expired from HU when she entered Sweden before marriage.3 years on and she is fighting it with a lawyer in Sweden. Americans are not treated super great in Europe; BTW, I just received 2 e mails from the HU tax office; Going tomorrow to find out what is up with that since I only have a tiny SS from the US and not working in HU. Think I am good but we will see! PS, When my friends father died alone in a hospital here, the US embassy did nothing to help her; They did give her a list of $100; per hour lawyers though! Yikes!! She was not able to claim his body as she owed money to the hospital even with her so called health coverage. She did not read the fine print I guess.She even contacted the US Navy as he was a vet, no help either;

    Tell me please, can a single person make a living in Hungary with an $1,600 monthly income? Do I need a certain amount of money on a bank account? Thank you!

    • @adventurefreaksss
      @adventurefreaksss  9 місяців тому +2

      It appears you have to show an income of 10,000 Euros per year. Depending on where you live, 1600 is very doable in Hungary. Thank you for viewing!

      1600 usd is good for a nice avarage lifestyle even in Budapest, but in other parts of Hungary even better.

    Thank you Danielle for the great video. Please don`t listen to the mean comments. I`m Hungarian but have been living in the US for 20+ years. I`m not retired and still working remotely. I have been thinking to move back to Hungary but kind of hesitant. One of my concerts is the language. Are they a lot of English speakers? I want to be sure I can maintain my English. Thank you!

      Fél Budapest angolul beszél, ezek a turisták. A maradék negyede szintén beszél angolul. Ezek a magyarok.

      In Budapest, almost everyone speaks at least a little English, especially the younger people. Really old people and the manual labor type people are the least likely to speak English. Budapest being an international city and English being the international language means you won't have any trouble with the language. In general, the smaller the city, the less English is used. Around tourist areas like Lake Balaton, there's plenty of English speakers. Almost every store has at least one English speaker. Pharmacies too. Self serve kiosks at stores, trains, etc all have English. Your phone can translate conversations. Your cell phone camera can scan Hungarian and instantly translate it to English. Almost all menus are also in English. Hungarians all seem to enjoy practicing English and it's a great conversation starter. There's always someone nearby who can help translate too. So basically, don't let not speaking Hungarian stop you from moving to Hungary. You'll love it. Change always feel uncomfortable, but Hungarians are super good people and make the most amazing friends. Hungarians all have this stern look and non eye contact when you see them in public like on a train or walking somewhere, but the moment you stop them and ask a question, this tough stern persona drops away and they politely help you. I've made several really good Hungarian friends this way, just asking for help. Hungarian friends will feed you so much food when you visit and if you like alcohol, they always have plenty for friends. I say go visit in the summer July or August for a couple of weeks and see for yourself. There's a huge music festival in August in Budapest that brings in almost half a million visitors to it. So it is really fun if you love music, but can definitely drive up lodging costs if you arrive during the Sziget Music festival. It's best to book everything early, like several months ahead to get your best deals and best locations.
