    When you mentioned your dad got you the whole map of Europe, and you fulfilling the journey. It brought me to tears because your dad opened your mind to go do it, and I felt that while you were traveling he was with you. I got very emotional had a small cry. May your dad always bless you from the above.

    Hungarian here: I am happy that she likes to live here but it is very rare that a teacher earns that much money (even in gross). The food prices are the same or some cases higher then in western europe. We pay 27% taxes on everything and if you are sick with more than a flu you have to go to the private sector anyways. Btw despite all of that I love to live here, Budapest is my home but please do not believe everything you see in this video. As a Hungarian: 30k for a year is not bad at all, but IT IS NOT THE AVERAGE here. Actually here in Budapest a 2500$ salary for a month is pretty comfortable. It is beyond the average which is cc. the half of it. Health insurance... Well, yes, it is the fraction of the price as in the US, BUT: everyone who can afford it, spend for private healthcare. And you can easily spend 1 or 2 months of your salary for that. I"m happy for her, and I'm glad that she is having a good time here :) but keep in mind that is not the full picture at all. :)

    • @martinvarga130
      @martinvarga130 4 місяці тому +10

      Exactly. 2500$ is awesome. With this much of a salary you are a king in the city. You can basically afford almost everything and you don't have to worry about anything. Just to put the picture into perspective: an average hungarian makes about 1000$/month. Mostly experienced IT technicians, people in logistic, finance or lawyers can make 2500$ or more.

In the past, I also had a devastating opinion of the Hungarian health care system, and unfortunately I still have it when I look at the direction of the processes in the 5 years since I have been working in my own practice. However, the picture is greatly improved by the experiences of my foreign and Hungarian patients who spent a longer or shorter time abroad and used the healthcare systems there, and then moved to Hungary. They have the same opinion about the Hungarian healthcare system as in the above video about the public transport: compared to what they experienced abroad, the one here is much better. In the states she’s get around $2500 a month for life once retire age. Also if she made $30k in USA her healthcare would almost be free per month with medical/medicare. Also her salary would be higher here and more job opportunities for digital marketing here than there. She just wants to work part time but try to find an easier way out. Just to keep this video in context: living in $30K in a year is extremely good. Her $3,300 monthly budget is only possible for top earners. It is rare that people can make that much, only in IT and Finance possible, most families can't earn half as much as she is with even two incomes. Living in Lipótváros is like living in Manhattan's most expensive locations. Most of the people are work for SME's in Hungary and the average salary is around $1,200 after taxes. Living a life this lady has is an exception, not general. Budapest is the cheapest in the EU in terms of property prices, but also the most expensive compared to local salaries. This country politically and economically a disaster, suffering in lack of democracy, extremely high corruption, with no political consequences. What this lady explains in this video is more of showing love for Eastern European lifestlye (Warsaw and Prague very similar to Budapest, most of the people confuse them) then specific things to Hungary. This country was leading the area, but today it is the poorest country in the EU (Bulgaria is behind but hungarian people can consume a lot less). Recent studies showed that more than 50% of young students plan to leave soon, after the world economic crisis in 2008 more than 800K left Hungary.

A flat like she showcases us in the video in the very center of downtown where she lives costs around 1200 USD/month *without* utilities. The price she pays for it is a heavily subsidized price but for some strange reason she "forgets" to mention this little detail. The average net income in Hungary in 2024 is 1260 USD, nowhere near what she earns. Hungary had the highest inflation in Europe in 2023 which increased prices by a huge amount, inflation for food was 55%, while salaries barely increased.
