Springboks are slowly becoming the Greatest Of All Time. If they win the next World Cup in Australia, it will be a level above something we've never seen. 3 WCT would be crazy
they allowed their players to be developed all over the world under different coaches. England you have to play in about one of 5 teams in the premiership to get a look in. That says it all.
And that is the one 'problem'. Rassie is 'unique' so let's hope there are others waiting in the wings - and in the other countries too - to take over his mantle.
Well, as a South African, I can only say this, as to replacements necessary due to age before 2027 : The list is too long to type here - the problem isn't who to pick, rather, it's who to leave out
It's the Springboks' time and it's still going to for a long time, I have no doubt about this. Show me a team with so much depth and so much diversity and to top it all a perfect couching staff with the likes of a former All Black and an Irish national. ❤❤❤❤😂
What if's is a fools paradise. Nobody can foresee what's going to happen in the next 4 years. For now however, nobody can argue the total dominance of the Boks.
There is one thing that we'll probably not comprehend the boks have won a few competitions since 2019 and are ranked n4 and double WC champions, but we are not at our peak or close to our best, we're still leaving alot of points out there and haven't played a perfect game yet so watch the space
Africa is hungry my brother, we now see young black and coloured kids walking around with rugby balls instead of footballs. SAfrica has a very large pool of ‘only just recently starting to be tapped pool of talent. And they are hungry. When you get a group of people, (regardless of race, creed nor religion ) to pull together toward a single goal. History is made, it’s only division or mismanagement that’ll throw this ship off course in my opinion. I believe them to be part of the top tier for a long time to come yet.. But only time will tell
100%! I think this is probably how NZ hit their dominance 10 years ago. Kids all wanted to play rugby. Now, in developed countries, they can’t get them off their devices and onto the sports fields.
Rugby is not a life style to us, it is life itself. The depth we have at the moment is mind boggling. I am certain we could put 2 RWC winning teams together and the reserves needed for both teams. The current Springboks are the GOAT.
South African rugby has world leading development through the top schools and clubs. Talent is recognised and kids from whatever background can get scholarships to very good schools, both in sport and academics.
Bru I don't know where the Rugby world's focus is at when it comes to the massive pool of talent that's waiting in the wings, you mention Varsity, don't forget those already domineering High School monsters that are smashing each other to greatness as well. SA is gonna dominate for a long time to come.🙌🏿🇿🇦
The game against Ireland made me worried. There is a lot of positives but everyone now, NZR and AUS can look at the benchmark and work to sometimes and will have something to prove, it is like Rassie says, to perform this game must become personal, the hunger to eliminate SA in the next world cup will be huge, I hope there is something in the bok camp that can counter that, because like with everything coaches might get relaxed or think they have it under control and the hunger to be a head and to over achieve turns in to maintenance and maintenance in a involving world is stagnation......
The conveyor belt is a *_VERY REAL_* thing..literally..there are hundreds, if not thousands of young players in South Africa who are ready to step up at any given time.
Man, let's point it South Africa is a nation (actually the sum of 12) of sixty+ millions of persons, in great majority young people. Although not the most popular game (majority of blacks watch football, but for Afrikaners and Kleurlinge is a second religion) Rugby has BY FAR the best organized federation and so has a sort of first pick for what regard recruiting, also because rugby is the school sport so they could reach everyone. Add a great societal push for all players to emerge, regardless of which the group of which they made part and a great popularity of the team also outside the field (as they are a symbol of a working South Africa in which everyone get according to its own merit and not for political or racial reasons) and you get a perfect background.
Easy now. Springboks are good and they are very consistent, but you always feel they can lose against the top 4 teams on any given day. They are not dominating winning by huge margins. Most games are touch and go.
True, don't forget in all the rematches they run amok. Let's never forget that. Truth is this team is one for the ages. What makes this coach great is fearless habit of naming his team and sending them in. That's why the Boks will remain a household name. This is our turn.
Saying the Boks success is a sacrifice on “spectacle” is illogical considering they draw the largest crowds locally and internationally. There’s just no fact to that argument.
I don’t think South Africa has a shortage of players at all. The number of young players joining the camp and still needing game time is actually a positive sign. Take Henko van Wyk, for example, a powerhouse forward who’s yet to make his debut, and when he does, you’ll see the talent he brings. The Lions alone have produced even more impressive forwards. The key is to use our experienced players to mentor and develop the younger ones, both on and off the pitch. Wales failed to do that, and it led to a heavy defeat for them.
As a South African this hyperbole is a bit silly. There are good signs in that continuity with Rassie has helped and he has made good decisions etc etc Provided this is maintained we could win in 2027 because the Boks do seem to be suited for a knock out tournament. We've done well this year but we are not a pretty side morelike a diesel Toyota Hilux bakkie than an Aston Martin
It is because SA played 50 players that the younger players are exposed to that level. There are still a few years left for the senior players. By then the younger players have gained valuable experience. The other issue is the so-called bomb squad. All it is, is that every position should have a player that will excell fot 80 minutes. South Africa's bomb squad are all good enough to start the game. When the bomb squad is send in, the intensity and calibre of play increases.
As a South African i can say that for us! South African rugby is a spectacle! I think the Boks have produced some of the most amaizing rugby ever played; over the last 8 years. How can you say that they don't play spectacular rugby?! That it's boring? Are you bias?
I personally think that the Springboks are being over-sold at the moment. They are dominant, now, but after the next wave of players take over, they don't have much building after that. 2027 is a long way away and if they can hold on until then it will be surprising.
Teache Ireland to play rugby not to go down like soccer players that is the problem Ireland create in rugby to roll around like soccer players until the ref give them a penalty
I think many have not seen the Rugby engine that has been developed and only look at the team, we have a system to build these types of players so there will be youngsters coming through and its why we can rotate so many players...what has helped us immensly was NZ Rugby removing us form super rugby and now playing against European teams, since they have the cash for players our provincial sides play against some of the best in the world so its only going to make us stronger as a rugby nation.
Sorry for the bad news but we have thousands of players waiting in the background and millions more in development, you will not see the end of this talent line in your lifetime
Just leave the showboaters at home and they’ll stay one of the best. Always said the school senior teams will show the worlds internationals a thing or two and wouldn’t loose by much, little boasting here of course. Lets see what they’ll come up with to try to keep us down now that racism is gone and they can’t use this as flag to put our players down.
They were lucky to win the last World Cup because they All lacks played one man short for much of the game and right to the end the ABs were attacking their try line. With a player short for so long they really should have won by more. Besides that the All Blacks have beaten both South Africa and Australia numerous times when they were behind and won in the dying minutes. As for the team with the most wins and who dominated the number position in rugby for decades is the All Blacks. The ABs have gone through this before and came back to dominate again many times and they will do it again.
All good points you make, but it is history. Lucky or not, the World Cup is in the Springboks' trophy cabinet for the 4th time. The current All Black are loosing some matches because they fall of the pace in the last 20 minutes. It was something they were renowned for in the past, to up the tempo in the last 20 minutes and forcing opponents to their knees. Saffa in NZ
...and the Boks had 2 yellows, if I recall correctly...so that's 20 with 14 on 14...&, AS significant as the red, the Boks lost their only hooker in the 3rd minute...& he was replaced by a 37yo flanker!!! Mind boggling. These teams were equal. Make no mistake about it.

You mean 5 World Cups? Or 3 World Cups in a row?
If you say, at the moment it's very likely when...

If rugby was the must popular sport in SA we would be able to field a few teams that can beat anyone.
I wouldn't worry about the future. The Boks have at least 4 or 5 players in each position. Huge depth. Huge talent coming up through the ranks too.
Boks have built a great system. So much depth. It takes years to get to this point.

Springboks have the best schoolboy conveyor belt also. Some phenomenal talent still coming.
I must admit that I was so surprised by Etzebeth getting that try; he was playing like a centre. The man is supposed to be a lock for crying out loud.
He played centre at school (crazy)

Yet they cleaned up
