When I was teenager in 2000 I used to record my favorite songs in a cassette from the radio. I didn't know Poor Leno at all but on day I recorded by accident 10 seconds of the song at the end of the previous song (the one I wanted to record). With the time I started to be curious about these 10 seconds and I wanted to listen it full of it, but I didn't heard this song anymore... until today. I heart the song and authomatically I had this magic click in my brain, and here I am: enjoying the moment :)
And at the time you had MTV New between 10p.m and 11 p.m. for 3 days in a week. I remember that on Tuesday after that it was MTV2 time til midnight, Thursday it was Yo, Friday musta been some kind of The Real World recap. I'm not sure but I think it was quite like that.

My mom used to play this all the time when I was a little kid. Every time she played it, I just stared at this music video. After many years I forgot the name of the song and was embarrassed to ask my mom. I didn’t know how to speak English back then so I tried to search “oor leno” and “ooor liino” and all that except “poor leno” after I found out the name this song and music video comes to my mind at times.

Shortly after 9/11, I was deployed to Kuwait. They played this on the radio station in Kuwait City and I was able to pick it up out in the desert. Bought the CD once I got back state-side.

Reminds me of when I moved from a very mixed state away from my best friend to inbred central, a place known for it's cold whether (and cold people). It took many, many years before I stopped missing my friend and decided it was not wrong to have nobody and be thought of as bad and different.

I'm 56 years old and I can't walk anymore without a cane due to a severe injury that even extensive surgery couldn't fix. Club dancing was my life until then. I can't dance anymore, but this song never fails to get me swaying and bopping in my chair in memory of times past. I grew up in the club life when raves really were underground affairs with last minute phone notices of locations. I've followed dance music through its many genres through the years and have always been amazed at the growth of the overall genre. I hope the younger folk will always be able to discover the earlier music that shaped and formed the music they hear today.
