WATER: Option 1: Heat rocks in fire and use wooden tongs to transport to small saltwater pools (found in video) and drop in to evaporate water into a cloud of steam, that will rise into the air, use clothing or plastic/dry bag to catch and condense the steam into liquid form, ideally dripped into a shell or wrung out into mouth from cloth. You would only get a small amount from each set of rocks, but the process does scale if you want a larger result.
Option 2: You had a dry bag, pack bag with vegetation and leave in sun, the plants will perspire their moisture which will condense on the inside of the dry-bag. Rotate with fresh vegetation and repeat. Source: You can do this with plastic bags and fresh vegetation, its small amounts of water, takes a few hours, but its low effort and can be done while you chill in the shade.
Option 3: Hang your shirt on a branch over the water, the fog in the early morning will condense on the shirt, wring out a few drops.

When I was a wee lad, my step dad taught me some survival training. He was a "shellback" in the US navy and wintered over in the antarctic for 13 months. Before that one of his training missions was to survive on a small desert island. To get water you find a sandy beach and dig down above the high water mark and you will get some brackish water, drinkable but not as good as fresh. Also another way is you can use a balloon. You put a couple smooth rocks inside, blow it up, tie it off and float it in the seawater, the rocks keep it weighted down. Balloons are semi porous and water will eventually filter through the rubber, but not the salt. I never tried it myself but it was in one of his survival manuals that I read. So there ya go. Hope you feel better soon. BTW eating shell fish with out fresh water probably added to your discomfort as they are bottom feeders and they tend to accumulate toxins. Scaley fish are better. Love your channel ❤

Hi Field Days, one way to get access to drinkable water could be to head further inland to look for streams and rivers. Another solution could also be to dig up the sand that is close to the oceans (about 50 meters away from the ocean gives salt free bot water), the only problem is it takes time to dig a hole as it has to be the same level as the sea level. That’s what I thought you should do when you found the moist sand. Another tip I have heard of is to not eat when you cannot get access to drinkable water, especially meats. This is because eating draws water from your body further dehydrating you. Your body needs water to swallow and digest food (As you discovered). Thanks for all the great vids Field Days. Keep it up. Yea Dawgies.

I've been watching your videos every night for about 3 or 4 weeks, which was when I discovered your channel, and man... I'm grateful for that! Just one important thing I may add is that our digestion takes a loot of water to happen, then in those situations where you have no water available, the right choice is to eat as little as you can (which you did). If you have a lot of food, you shouldn't eat all at once, but eat little portions from time to time. Anyway, I'm anxious for your next vid! You could have attempted a solar still by digging a hole, filling with salt water to saturate the ground (some of the ground actually looked like it may already have been saturated by rainwater), put a large oyster shell in the middle of the hole to catch the water, cut your dry bag into a sheet, lay it over the hole, weight down the edge and put a stone in the middle to create a depression so the evaporated water falls into your oyster shell. Give it a few hours in full sun and you’d have had drinking water.

For water: 1. make two containers by hollowing out a tree stump. 2. put a small hole in the bottom of one and half fill it with charcoal from the fire and half with seawater. Place above the other container and allow water to drip through. This will give a 65-75% salinity reduction. Repeat process with collected water for further desalination.

      @ArmaGuyz 2 роки тому +3

@@t4404 You can do so with a bottle of water just stay even moreso true to the challenge that this is water if you are in a situation that you may live from.
I have already suggested to him to carry a Tourniquet and a powerbar with a bottle of water. The Challenge is to himself to obtain water. The Problem with carrying nothing
is that being hes not in some park or a 20 min drive away and so if he were to fall and hit his head and become disoriented or injur leg or something that immoblized him and his gear failed to actually work to notify someone of his location which can definitely happen he wont already be 2 days of the 3 allowed in with no water and suffering from dehydration already and then fall into a real survival scenario which could see another 2-3 days before he is located immobilized... Meaning that the single bottle of water would likely be just enough to maintain NORMAL BODILY ORGAN FUNCTION TO SURVIVE long enough to be rescued... BECAUSE The golden rule is 3 days without water... THAT IS IN PERFECT CONDITIONS....
You cant actually make it 3 days without water if you are active and youre sweating... People have been found in the desert dead of dehydration in just hours It doesnt take days to get heat stroke either. So a bottle of water of 32oz would be his full days intake to fully be hydrated and maintain his bodily function.
NOT TO MENTION He is eating when dehydrated which will only further add to it. If you have never been severly dehydrated I can tell you that you will LONG BEFORE 3 days Be severely weakened unable to even rise from bed or move and immobilized and confused long before 3 days is up NOT to mention that there is a point of which you become dehydrated at a level in which WATER BEING GIVEN TO YOU WILL NOT HYDRATE YOU ENOUGH TO SURVIVE YOU MUST BE GIVEN WATER INTRAVENIOUSLY AFTER A CERTAIN POINT OF DEHYDRATION OR YOU WILL NOT SURVIVE.
Thats what the survivalists always leave out and dont talk about. OR The fact that under the right conditions and environment if youre not doing anything or eating anything and not sweating and were already fully hydrated its possible to actually live far longer than 3 days without water.
Some have lived 8 days in some situations. But in a hot climate and actively walking for hours in a beating down sun. You are likely to die before day 3 or bare miniumum be so dehydrated you become unconscious... thats something else they dont talk about. At some point you can lose consciousness and you dont wake up and so you dont get any water and you die. Real Survival is a very dangerous situation which is why water is so vitally important. Normal bodily functions to filter out toxins in your body must be kept up by a certain level of hydration or your kidneys start to fail. Theres several sites which cover the topic and testing performed.
In short dont kill yourself challenging your self for fun by making very simple mistakes like thinking you dont need any water youll find some. You might not. You devices might fail and you might not be able to move and could become separated from every piece of gear you have in seconds such as a wild animal chase or falling into rapids. Tourniquet and water bare minimum and a lighter in case you have a broken arm or hand and can not start a fire. Redundancy =Survival

@@t4404 Lets talk for a moment about the man in CA who went to a local park area for a hike and was searched for over a week only to be discovered about 20meters off the trail he disappeared from dead. He had survival knowledge all his friends who knew him said he knew what it took to survive. Dead in a local park location just meters off the trail he frequented. Now add in a WILD LAND HOURS AWAY FROM CIVILIZATION. Even if he had his exact location marked there is a chance he may not be located that same day at all.
Imagine a severe injury like a deadly snake bite? Analphylactic shock from a sudden Shell fish allergy or exposure to something he didnt know he was allergic to. An Artery bleed that had to use a Tourniquet on. No one thinks about all of these things happening but they do every day to some of the most experienced hikers and survivalists and physically capable people all over the world. Usually what happens is something unexpected and because they werent expecting it have no supplies and it turns into live or die fast.
      Preparedness is key to survival.

Then hang your bag up side down over the rocks and use your hands to drip water onto the hot rocks, catching the steam and vapor with your bag. Hopefully some of it condenses. Or.. if you got a thick enough stick.. like one of the bigger logs, could you hollow out a bowl shape, fill with water and then burn it? You might not get a lot of condensation before the log burns completely.. but maybe enough to "survive". ?

It's a better method for purifying fresh water than getting condensation out of salt water though.. still not sure how you'd collect the steam. Maybe a flat rock propped up over it then lick the hell out of it? Channel it into a separate rock depression?
