- Toys over here, toys over there, toys, toys, EVERYWHERE! 🤪 Sound familiar?! I have been trying to tackle this for the longest time!
Today is part 1 of my 5 year old daughters room makeover! Paint samples are ordered, amazon boxes full of decor have arrived along with a new bed, mattress, and bedding...I just have one small (ok, HUGE) obstacle in my way... TOYS! Today is finally the day though. Every toy in the house will be collected, sorted into piles, decluttered, organized, and STORED! Which brings me to a funny story... I totally forgot to plan storage! 😂 Nothing a quick trip to IKEA couldn't fix though! We went with two of Trofast organizers and so far so good! I just need to get some labels on them! 😉
Here's a look at my Notes app! This way you can see what goes through my brain during these projects:
CSDO
Collect = ALL THE THINGS! Every room. You can break this down, but typically you’ll have better results seeing everything at once
Sort = Make piles. Barbies, play food, blocks, babies, doll clothes, etc. (Toss any no-brainers out!)
Declutter = Be AGGRESSIVE! If you’re not an aggressive person, remember, decluttering is a constant cycle. Come back to it later
Organize = Now that you can see what you have, the fun part begins! Pick how you want to sort. More or less divided organization. Depends on AGE and personality. We’re trying to make things easier here!

-baby doll accessories (Paci’s, bottles, diapers, bibs)
-dress up (shoes, jewelry tiaras, skirts

-pretend play ( dr, dentist, cell phone, etc)

-large toys that don’t fit in a trofast bin
-puzzles
-play money
-TINY BARBIE ACCESSORIES
In next weeks adorable room makeover video we’ll:

-New bed/mattress/bedding

-Start/finish dresser and nightstand

-Decor: new lamp, shelves, candles etc

HEY! I've missed y'all! My voice wasn't 100% this week, but I was determined to be here! I hope you enjoyed today's video! I'm fixing to go jump into some fancy painting clothes and get some primer on her walls! What are you up to today?!
That chicken/potato in a dress is a perfect example as to why kids dont need so many toys... they are very creative children and with the multiple dolls she clearly has it was simpler to play with that than be overwhelmed with the choices she has to make.
My sons are grown men now but I can honestly say that when they were young they never missed one thing I got rid of.
When my daughters were young, we had a play room. All the toys stayed in there. And I always went through the toys when they weren’t home. And I made sure to get stuff in the trash or donated before they came home. I’m not sure they ever missed anything. We had a lot of toys when they were little. Now that they are grown. My oldest daughter has a bunch of kids. She throws a lot away. My youngest daughter has two dogs. And she keeps everything. My oldest took after me. And my youngest took after her dad. I don’t miss those days. I have rocks I’ve found on our land. And the bigger ones I use as bookends. I have a whole row of smaller ones outside on my porch railings. They are a lot of neat rocks in Georgia.
The Minimal Mom has a very good video on how to declutter toys easily. Maybe you could prioritise actual space over too many toys.

Looks great! Really good organization of the toys.
Have you thought about moving the play kitchen downstairs by your kitchen. I found my kids used it more and would make me "meals" throughout the day. Then they discovered making their own food put of playdoh and that was a game changer.
Hi, the minimal mum has a very good video on how you can easily declutter toys if you think this would be helpful to you. Maybe you could prioritise actually space to play over too many toys.
I love the minimal mom!! I watch her all the time. Every time I think I did good decluttering toys, I realize there’s still too much after it’s spread all throughout the house again. I need to declutter 50% more again!

She doesn't need anymore toys, come birthdays and Christmas ask for gift card to fun things like the zoo. I no longer store clothes as my children all have different styles.

Ahhh that’s a good one!! I was debating between that or SW Gorgeous white! I’m doing a two-tone, so I’m going to go with a darker shade on the bottom and Alabaster on the top 💕
